Anyone got a rundown on the Seymour v Shepp Bears match? I heard it was a bit rough & spiteful at times, plenty of niggle and a truckload of talk went on. I heard Seymour did kick 8-9 goals 20 behinds to win by a couple of kicks?
Didnt get there so can either you Seymour or Shepp lads bring us up to speed, who were the standouts etc and what sparked all this niggle?
What is going on with Wes Stotts clearance? He has been rejected 3 times already.

Rule ruckus
April 3 2007
Shepparton News
Contentious rule changes set to be introduced to Goulburn Valley Football League this season have left the most experienced football minds divided, with the new kickin rule continuing to raise concerns.
The rule - which allows a player to bring the ball back into play immediately after a goal umpire signals a behind - has already come under fire from a number of Ovens and Murray league coaches, with Goulburn Valley coaches now weighing into the debate.
Mooroopna coach Derek Hall said his club was only made aware of the new kick-in rule minutes before its first practice match.
Hall described the move as change for change's sake, with the Cats now having to work on zoning and match-up contingencies on the eve of the season.
"I think we are the only sport in the world that does it (continually changes its rules)," Hall said.
"Unless it's an absolutely glaring thing, I'm against rule changes.
"We're playing with fire by trying to speed up country footy."
Mansfield coach Peter Tossol yesterday took a different view, saying it would remove a boring part of the game.
"I don't have a problem with it," Tossol said.
"Anything which can reduce the effectiveness of zoning, I'm in favour of."
Tossol said while he understood concerns about the potential speed of the game, Goulburn Valley players could not rise to an intensity that would match the power-running style of the AFL and therefore the rule would not cause any distinct advantage.
With clubs unable to keep a spare ball behind the goal, Tossol said there was potential for the rule to be abused, but that it would be ordinary of opposition supporters if it was to happen.
"I'm not going to have people sitting behind the goals kicking the ball away," he said.
Long-serving Rochester coach David Williams was indifferent about the rule, saying it was simply something his side would have to adapt to.
"Fitter, smarter teams will be reacting quickly to it," Williams said.
Umpires will also heavily police any contact to the head - with unfair challenges deemed reportable without a set penalty - while umpires have chosen not to adopt the AFL's "hands in the back" interpretation.

Campbell out for two due to surgery
April 3 2007
Shepparton News
Mooroopna midfielder Blake Campbell is likely to miss the opening two rounds of the Goulburn Valley Football League season after undergoing surgery for torn cartilage on his hips.
Campbell had keyhole surgery to trim tears on his hips a fortnight ago, with doctors giving him four to six weeks to recover.
"I tore both cartilages on my hips last year and that's why I missed the finals," Campbell said yesterday.
"I've pencilled myself in for round three."

But lets face it that he is in the twilight of his career and battled throughtout last years final series.

Dont know if that is exactly correct, not all players have fronted the club that have been cleared, besides if Euroa want to keep him so bad why dont they take half a D out to his place and talk to him there he only lives 5 minutes out of town...
Any one looking for something to do tomorrow night if you're in the Seymour area a reminder that we (Broadford) have a practice match against Sunbury Kangaroos at Kings Park.
Game will kick off at 7.45 with the SFNC having their bar in operation.
We will have 5 senior guys missing but are hoping to be competitive against one of the more fancied RDFL clubs.

GVFL punt
April 4 2007
Shepparton News
Punters could be able to bet on the Goulburn Valley Football League premiership if a Darwin-based sports betting agency gets the support of country football administrators.
Sportsbet.com.au - a licensed sports betting agency with 60 000 clients Australia-wide - has offered premiership odds for the neighbouring Ovens and Murray Football League season despite strong opposition from its board.
Sportsbet executive officer Matthew Tripp said the Goulburn Valley league was next in line, but would wait until he met with Ovens and Murray officials in the next seven days before making a decision.
"It's certainly something we're interested in and I would think the leagues could recognise the exposure they can get from it," Tripp said.
"We are not going to bet on the round-toround stuff each week because it might get a bit tricky.
"But we are happy to put up a premiership market each week."
Tripp said the stunt was not "a money grab" and believed the project would offer further exposure to the major country leagues.
"I'm a local, I'm based in Yarrawonga and, while we don't need the football leagues' permission to go ahead with it, I don't want to be seen as the bad guy," Tripp said.
Goulburn Valley league general manager Eric Bott said, while Sportsbet had not made an official approach, the view of the Victorian Country Football League was to not support betting.
"While yes, there are some benefits in terms of exposure, I think it opens up a can of worms in terms of policing it in terms of clubs and players betting," Bott said.
"What's to stop a club, who might be sitting eighth the week before clearances, backing themselves to win a lot of money at odds of say $80 and going out and buying three or four top-quality players to buy a flag.
"That's the type of situation which is a real worry.
"I think there are too many things like that which would be concerning and not healthy for footy."

It's a red card special
April 4 2007
Shepparton News
A player who receives a red card can be replaced after 30 minutes this season, under a two-year trial rule adopted by Goulburn Valley Football League last week.
The modification will also be trialled in the Ballarat, Hampden, Mornington Peninsula Nepean, Southern under-age and Warrnambool and District football leagues.
It will still prevent the offending player from taking any further part in the game, but give teams a reprieve by allowing a replacement to enter the play after 30 minutes of actual playing time.
The offending player will automatically be reported if redcarded.
Shepparton Swans coach Peter White said the modification was a sensible move given his past experience with the rule.
Coaching Kyabram in the 1996 grand final against Tatura, White took the Bombers to a flag after playing with 17 men for the majority of the match because one of his players was redcarded halfway through the first quarter.
"I think it's a great idea," White said.
"We went through it in '96.
"Had we not won the game it would have left it open for serious discussion because the guy who got sent off, Brendan Ryan, was cleared of the charge (at the tribunal)."
GVFL general manager Eric Bott said the league was 100 per cent behind the rule and the change was still enough of a deterrent for clubs.
"The 30 minutes is a big penalty on a club," Bott said.
"They can sit back and say it doesn't happen often, but the stakes are pretty high."
Citing the example of Ryan, Bott said that in the past the rule was open to inflicting a club with a far greater penalty than what the action was deemed at the tribunal to have deserved.
With the modification he believes it will further demonstrate to players that thuggery won't be tolerated.
Bott said 11 players had been red-carded in the past four years, with fewer than half receiving a substantial penalty and four of those players found not guilty.
The system will operate in all grades.

Tim Lanyon will not be playing for Tatura this season after he was told by senior coach nobel that his services are not required at the club.

he probably shouldnt have told the coach he couldnt play in there practice match then go play for wondonga who were playin against united in shepp and do his hammy.. from wat iv heard he went back to tat training sayin he couldnt train because of the hammy and the coach said something along the lines of well u shouldnt have played for wodonga on saturday and we dont want some1 around the club who is goin to do ***** like that so find somewhere else to play..
would play seniors at bears definantly and would play at swans to IMO.
yeah but then nobel has gone back to him last week and said if you appologies to the playing group you are welcome back. i dont think nobel is in the possy to go telling his best players there services arent wanted at the club. this is a kid thats come through the junior ranks and then a bloke that just comes in from SA tells him he isnt wanted.... If this is true then..
Considering that Nobel keeps preaching he needs locals to support the club on and off the ground he is not setting a great example. Mind you Tim wasnt too smart making himself unavailable for Tat then playing for Wodonga.
Nobel needs to remember he is in a small town and alienating 1 local player in an effort to make a statement can lead to a lot of issues.

It doesn't really matter if he comes from SA...he is there to do a job - coach Tat and I would say he is in a position to tell players their services aren't wanted.
Personally I probably wouldn't risk losing a key player but Nobel is obviously making a tough stance.

Care to enlighten us why you wont be playin at Tat this year and also where you reckon your gonna transfer to?

Absolutely agree, lanyon's not a good enough player in the first place to think he can stuff around footy clubs, especially his local club. Tat obviously want a coach who can bring them up the ranks of the ladder in years to come. So if it means getting rid of players who obiously over rate themselves, then Nobel has every right to get rid of lanyon. Good riddens i reckon the tat footy club would be thinking!

To finish 3rd in the b+f behind two quality players at this level is a pretty fair effort i would of thought and i didn't think Tatura were in such a strong position to be telling players "on ya bike, son" if that is what happened  .

Good points, but don't forget Seymour has lost 4 big guys in Pilling, Gordon, Douglas and Bailey and replaced only with some fella named Kelly who is only going to play seniors because they are desperate for height. Very hard to replace these guys. Should still make finals and with a bit of luck go 3 peat. Anyone heard anything about how Swans and Echuca are going in the pre-season? Praccy match results???
Yeah Kelly couldnt get a kick in a horse fight, played a few senior games at swans last year then cracked it when dropped, will he hang around if playing twos for seymour.

Yeh couldn't agree more Jax but the point that Duffman made a few posts back is that he is a young, local and obviously talented footballer, i just don't think that a club that is going struggle like Tatura will this year should be casting someone like that aside .

Timmy had never committed to the doggies and the footy club knew that he was on the move after shifting over to adelaide fell through. he was over in wadonga looking for work and visiting his cousin.
tatura is definantly in no possy to start handing out marching orders.
timms old man got bulldog of the yr last year which is the highest individual honour off field at the kennel and now timmy's perents arent goin to be involved in the club.
the club let him know he was welcome back through a text msg with fletty (president) not knowing of nobels decision until after he had told lanyon.

the young guy made a big mistake, the coach took it by the horns and IMO made the right decision. the coach has made a commitment to the club and expects the players to do the same. the young guy cant expect to **** in the coaches face and then move along as if nothing has happened. if his father won such a highly rated award at tat last year and has the clubs best interests at heart then he would would be backing the coach and telling his son he made a very call. the young bloke has no one to blame but himself and if he thinks the grass will be greener on the other side he is very wrong as most coaches wouldnt stand for that.

Is this a fact? Why would you do pretty much a whole pre-season with a club? sounds like a commitment to me. Fact is the boy can play a bit but is one of the ****test blokes going around. If he's such a great local and all that then what's he doing playing for Wodonga? He has trained or met with about 6 clubs since then. Says he only wants to play with a successful club. Also let his tennis team down with that hammy - couldn't play in the granny which they lost. Tat did the right thing - you wouldn't want a bloke like this around your club - they'll be better off without him. It's not as if he was going to get them up the ladder by himself. So what if they win 0 games instead of 1 - the coach has made a point and the rest of the players know where they stand.

yeah he did do pre season with tat but he made it clear to them that he wasnt playing there and they were fine with him doin his training with the club.
Haha interesting reading, I find it very out of character for Tim to go and play a game with Wodonga and then come back to Tat as if nothing happen and expect to play. I find it a little hard to believe, I would doubt Tim would want to alieniate himself from the boys their, they are a clicky bunch and I would think the 1st sign of Tim doing the dirty on the club it would have a lot of them turning their noses up at hime and I know that he wouldnt want that.
Anyway he has made a mistake and has to live by it, he wanted to test the waters and thats fine I just hope for his sake he finds a club willing enough to accomodate him and his eccentric personality (and failure's to handbal ;) ).
1 thing im certain of is that should the club had not have sacked Moose everyone would be talking about Tat in a different light.

then why he & his family no longer involved ?
dude if every club evicted unsigned players for playing or training with another club before the season started there would be players flying around everywhere!
if he just wanted to play for a successful club why has he played wit tat the last 2 years??? we won 4 games! he would have left if that was the case.
and i think you will find he was only a fill in when he played tennis so he didnt dog his "tennis team" or let them down.

ill back you up there smallfootyhead, i havent actually cum across the lad myself but i do agree he is a complete hack of a player if you would call him a player

well why dont you ask nobel that. he is the one that told him his services arent wanted. its caused some talking point in the tatura guardian, at least they have got something to talk about rather then the tatura supporters having bets on what the highest loosing margin will be this coming season i have heard one bloke thinks 320 points.
There is a lot more to that story and the gossip heads as usual haven't let the facts get in the way of their argument.

I'm asking you that because you're the one stating he made it clear he wasn't going to play for Tat. Why would a coach tell someone their services aren't wanted when they made it clear they weren't offering their services in the first place?
You're not making much sense...

i would call a player like shottner a vital cog not kelly.
Vital Cog??? wasnt he a borderline senior player for the Swans last year??? Have not heard great reports about the bloke, but only time will tell.
To answer all of you TOOLS in the one post, yes he will be a vital cog for the very reason that Toquick pointed out, Shane Shottner. If Jim can stand up and simply be competitive it will release Shotty up forward for bigger periods to not only be dangerous himself but to create space for Saad Saad. As for Jim Kelly being the "worst" player in the G.V seniors smallfootyhead, perhaps you can send me your real name in a private message sunshine and i'll come and see how good you are ;) .

There's absolutely no reason that you should talk like on here (or anywhere else in society). Surely you can disagree with someone else without having to resort to that rubbish.
Agreed Rowey. Kurt, No need to do your rag over a fwe splelling erorrsss...
Went and saw Rochester train last night. Had a Intra club practice match. They are looking very good, moving the ball fast and getting it down to Bowen one out. One out, Bowen will be unstoppable. Must have kicked 5-6 goals while I was there. Only real question is whether to play him forward or sit him at CHB. Lot of young guys coming through as well, which will help the much maligned Rochy 2's. Sam Williams played pretty well in the game and although now one of the older blokes at the club, Lenny Schmidt was killing them.

Hey FOOTYBOSS, congratulations on getting a game. Was just wondering if you could give me a bit of a run down on some of the selections for this weeks game. It seems like alot of last years reserves players have been given a chance to shine. MORPHETT, YOURSELF, SAVILLE, POWELL. And there is also several U18's in the squad. Have these players been given a chance because they have prooved themselves or because your numbers are limited. Would you expect the side to change much from this throughout the year?
How will the Full backs handle the new Quick Kick in that The VCFL has brought in to Every League?. Will it work like it dose in the AFL = extra Balls each end of the ground
will certainly make it alot faster then it has been
and new positing for the Goal Umpires

If you were a true Euroa supporter you would not be calling footyboss a loser. Only true supporters don't bag out your own.
And yes I think most of the players picked have proven themselves over preseason and being easter and the first round maybe they are a little shorter than usual only time will tell.

Just a ladder fellas before the season kicks off...
Seymour
Shepparton Swans
Rochester
Shepparton United
Echuca
Shepparton Bears
-----------------------------
Mooroopna
Euroa
Benalla
Mansfield
Kyabram
Tatura
I think there will be a tight tussle between those clubs in bold for the 4th 5th and 6th position.

Went and watched Echuca and the Swans yesterday and off yesterdays performance, Shepp Swans are no where near the best team in the league (as touted by some). They played 30 minutes of good footy and got over the line by a point.
Echuca were 7 goals up half way through the 3rd quarter and lost the game. The swans looked UNFIT and SLOW and I don't know why. I imagine they have a few new guys to get to know, but still doesn't explain why they were walking half way through the 3rd quarter. I think that a quick accountable team will cause them a bit of trouble this year. Echuca will be middle of the road - they go hard but are a little small.
Having said that the biggest disgrace of the day was that Echuca's scoreboard was not working (along with the time clock). 6 months to make sure the ground and facilities are ok - you are taking the piss Echuca

Didn't you see the manual scoreboard under the main one? I heard the electronic board was tested the day before and was faulty. Being Easter, I imagine there was nobody available to fix it. Whether it was working ok before that I have no idea. The time clock was working but didn't show time-on.

The manual scoreboard was covering the sponsor signs and hard to read. The clock worked for the 2nd and 3rd quarter but not 1 and 4.

Nah nothin' to hide here R.T, Ricks' a good mate and i'm keen for him to do really well at his new club after he was "shafted" at Avenel but most blokes on here and the KDFL threads know my feelings on that :thumbsd: .Just hope a few of the Avenel boys had enough SPINE to actually make the trip up to Memorial Oval to see how there former "200+ club game" player went.

how did the grounds hold up over the weekend fella's? especially those affected by water restrictions?was at memorial and it didn't look too bad at all, was still hard on a few of the boys tho, some of them sporting very very sore feet and legs.
Also congrats to VT for winning the night series comp at benalla last night. scores tied at full time with ex-euroa player matt mills slotting through a kick after the siren to clinch it for the lions, very tight contest all game. PLayed undera

Actually zero, unlike yourself i was at the game. Rick played alright, had a run up forward which i hadn't seen him do before but good on him. No body was questioning his football ability or his endeavor at avenel. As a bloke trying to make a name for himself at a new club, surely he'd prefer to not have his performances pushed in the spotlight after one game. Maybe after 6 or even 10 games it would be fairer on him to assess how he's gone.
I thought the game itself was a bit of a fizzer actually. Thought it was gonna be a good match early on when mansfield kicked 4 early ones, but after that never really looked in it. Pascoe killed them along centre half back, think he was playing loose. Suspect that rick will hold his place, because if giovanni plays bushies, sleigh goes back to school and cunningham gets rubbed out, that would mean at least four players would have to come in for him to get dropped. I thought sleigh and cunningham looked well and truly up to it. thought tremellan (number 13, record said tremellen but it was wrong on a fair few occasions) looked a class above in the twos, he'd have to be in the ones next week.:thumbsu:
