:thumbsu: THat's him, Doona.
Sharpie sen. is a rep. for one of the breweries .... Tooheys maybe, but not certain.
Josh Sharp tied with Kyneton warhorse Terry Mangan for the Al. McDonald Medal for the BFL b and f in the Ressies last September.
Chris Dunne is back. How much money is he on now $500-1000?
Broadford's discipline needs to be addressed. Do you know if the coach has done anything about it?
I spoke with chris dunnes brother and chris is getting $900 a game

either a pretty ordinary effort by dunne's brother for telling you (seeing that you have just told everyone here on bf) or an ordinary effort by yourself making it up. seriously mate, don't think you should write that sort of stuff on here unless this dunne bloke and broadford are happy for everyone to know.

I can confirm that Mr Sharp won't be leaving to the hillies, have however been told that Sam O'Connor who played with hurst two's last year has been approcahed by Brian Walsh and looks to be going out there.

Steve sharp is indeed a rep for one of the breweries and also President of the Golden Square Football Club would have found it strange if his young bloke moved on!

So who is everyone tipping to be up there this season?
Things seem pretty quiet on the recruiting front out Mt.Pleasant way.
So who is everyone tipping to be up there this season? Things seem pretty quiet on the recruiting front out Mt.Pleasant way.
Im leaning towards Colbo now in what could be one of the more evenly fought comps in years. Not much word outa Elmore, North and Huntly. Braodford will be big improvers, Heathcote seem to have added to a good list, LBU and Mounts will be up there. Time will tell whether White Hills will cover their losses although to give em credit they do seem to still be very active in recruiting.
On the transfers page I do see Grant Weeks' name (Rochy >>> Colbo) and young Luke Ezard has decided to go play under uncle Alan at Pascoe Vale. Lets hope he aint treated the same others to have left have been, he's a quality young fella and will be an asset in the future.

Good to see that young weeks has made the move back to the green and gold. It wil be interesting to see if he gets an oppurtinity to play any games. I think he'll no doubt spend the entire year playing all pio's games. Where hopefully he'll travel alright and hopefully they'll do a bit better then last year, which at the moment they seem to be building up with a better team.
Also good to see a few of the heathvote boys in the Pioneers team aswell and young bongiovanni from lockington. And they say you don't get noticed in the HDFL. i think all those boys have proven them wrong!!
So who is everyone tipping to be up there this season?
Things seem pretty quiet on the recruiting front out Mt.Pleasant way.
From looking at the transfer list and just general talk it seems that everyone has picked up pretty well. Colbo have done well, but they were left in the deep in after last year with the amount of players they lost, yet they should be a top contender especially if sam hill gets cleared. Locky have seemed to pick up more players including Adam Shawcross(Played with locky 2?? years ago but didnt do heaps) Mark Emmerson who played a running hbf? for heathcote also picked up matty martin from echuca he should be handy. Elmore seem to do doing well at getting big recruits to training, yet to sign some but they should get a couple more. On the transfer list it seems mounts are going to be up there like usual so that will be good to see. North Benda's have picked up the numbers dont know of there quality but will be interesting to see.
It will be good to see white hills up there. but after the numbers and the players they lost i dont think they'll be in the running they nearly have an entire new team and i think they will find it difficult to win games from the start. maybe finish of well
I think that all teams have done very well and that the comp will be alot more impressive then past years, with all teams being competive. No surprise through the year if a bottom placed team beats a top team but in the end i reckon it will be. in no order - elmore, mounts, locky and colbo and broady. .....and white hills, north, heathcote, and huntly ok anyones game for sure
conrad, looks like you left off lbu in your ladder in no particular order. they look like top 3 material along with mounts and colbo. cant see colbo out of the finals for another year. i think elmore and heathcote might make up the 5. any queries to these??

I have heard that mounts are looking resonable on the track and have given Troy Shannon the nod to lead the boys out for the year. Their tough onballer who had a pretty fair year last year after spending the previous few O/S.
Anyone confirm?

Yeh, sorry but i actually didnt leave LBU if u read again....(no order) elmore, mounts, locky and colbo and broady.

Seems to be a fair range of opinion on who will be up and amongst the best teams which makes for a good competiton. White Hills play Lodden Valley side Mitiamo tommorrow in a trial run does anyone else know of games this weekend including H.D.F.L sides.

Lancaster Football Club is currently on the look out for a praccy match this Saturday the 25th. Yarroweah has pulled the pin after making the Night series GF and see’s no reason to play us.
Seniors, Ressies, Thirds, A-grade, B-Grade, C- Grade and the U16’s are all after a hit out. We are open to most options as the season proper is just around the corner. Any help in the electronic world of gossip would be much appreciated. A game mid week could even be a possibility. Post a reply if you can help and we can sort out the details on the phone
whitehills played mitiamo last saturday and won by a couple of goals apparently. does any1 know how their new players went and if any1 kicked a few etc...
i think w.hills play marong this week and elmore play serpentine, what other praccy games are on this week if any.

There has been a lot of talk that he is planning on going back to Lancaster, but on their website it shows that he has not been cleared to play there, or even put in a clearance to play there..
I thought it was a given that he would be lining up in the KDL, but maybe he does plan on staying with Locky..?

Doona was wondering if you could shed any light on weather Braody look like snaring these guys from Melb? Taylor and Co. You would think with the loss of Bruni up forward and finishing 6th that they will need to bring in 5 or 6 quality to give it a shake. Obviously Dunne is a good start.

Dunno much about who they've got in the way of recruits to be honest. Where does this Taylor & co. come from? There have been some youngish faces, assuming from Craigieburn where the coach (Peter Brown) is from at training but as to names and their ability dunno
I know Daniel Fletcher is flying, as is Dunney, Rowbotham, Mick Edwards & Nick Redenbach. Havent sighted '05 B&F and sole ruckman Bernie Hourigan on the track, full back Glenn Cooper was talking retirement and I think fellow defender Duane Bruni is leaving. Matt Finch and Eddie Neilson have applied for clearances back from Yea. Lawrie Angwin is playing Im told but the nights Ive snuck a peek he hasnt trained
I do think they'll need a bit more firepower across H/B and thru the middle to get it down to Dunney if they're to give it a shake as you suggest. Practice game snext 2 Satdy's which just might give Brown an insight into what shopping still needs to be done
Fairly strong suggestion on the KDFL thread that Troy Mitchell is heading home to Lancaster, can any LBU fans confirm or deny this?
Doona - it is good to hear that Fletch is having a serious crack this year.
Will be again a topline player in the comp if he's dedicated and fit

If it's Sam and Aaron Taylor then I'd expect Sam to be a fringe senior player, will get a go but will have to work very hard to play regularly. Azza was a handy footballer before deciding to pursue a socialite career, has trimmed down excessively and I reckon if he continues to get himself fitter then he's capable of again being a handy senior defender.

White Hills made a mess of Marong yesterday at Scott St about 22 goals to 7. Edwards was on fire while the Angove brothers had a tone of the ball. They also had a big lump in the ruck that gave them first use of the hit outs. Good signs for the Demons. Can anyone else give us a rap up of practice matches. Think Broadford might have had one, Think Locky touched Serpentine up but im un aware of much of the details.

I believe the Roos had a 6 quarter job over at Romsey & were up by 3-4 goals after 3 terms. Scores were then wiped for the senior lists with Romsey winning by about 8 goals. Not sure who Broady had out, Dunney booted 3-4 but Daniel Fletcher and Alwin Neilson never played.
Was pleased to hear that one of the '96 boys in Stuie Denness performed quite well in the earlier game and that his comeback (and body) appears on track. Stuie has had a terrible run the past 6-7 years with very bad injuries & operations - fingers crossed he can re-invent himself as a senior player as his former team mates celebrate their 10-year flag reunion.
Think Heathcote mightve played Lancefield . . . .

went and watched the heathcote/lancefield game and the saints looked good with a few to come back including big waters. prob won by about 12 goals.
heard too that romsey had about 5 good senior players out but still outclassed the roos by about 8 goals in the senior match with dunne prob being broadfords best. i heard romsey's best was Al Meldrum who heathcote apparently just missed out on signing in the off season

HJ32 - how are Colbo travelling and how is Locky going? What are your predictions for how the senior side will go this year?
Colbo play wedderburn this sunday at Wedderburn in a 6 quarter match
Whatever happened to this Winsell character, I take it he aint heading to Hopperville anymore HJ32?
I've hardly been around in recent weeks TP, due to cricket commitments and travelling with work. From what i've seen thus far, the numbers at pre-season training have been the best I have seen in my 7 seasons at the club, and all the young blokes are keen as mustard to get some experience at playing senior footy. Most people are probably seeing the names heading to Colbo and are expecting the side to be right up there again, however I'm taking a more conservative approach and tipping that we will improve marginally on last year without predicting finals action just yet... we were 20 goals behind mounts, Hillies and locky last year, so there's a fair bit of work to be done. Throw an improving Heathcote, Huntly and Elmore into the mix and each week is going to be tough. Trips to Broady and North are always tough assignments no matter where they are on the ladder.
will be a crack HDFL Season
I haven't heard much on the Winsall thing Doona in the past few weeks. I think he's getting fair pressure from his home club to stay.
Will let you know in the next week or two

What about Slate's any chance of him returning?
Slater is well settled in Wodonga (just bought a place up there) and is coaching the Wodonga Bulldogs Reserves. He's taking over from the Lion King of Seymour in Chris "the beast" Martin, however Marto will be his right hand man....

How did Colbo fare up at Wedderburn and what happened at the Mounts v Lancaster clash?
Wedderburn 18-16 to Colbo's 13-10

Play this week sorry didnt realise they had their annual Swap Meet last weekend so it was all hands on deck at the club. Was great to go for a stroll there Sunday and see the support from the players on hand to do their bit.
What do you mean clean out??? Looking at clearances only White Hills appears the only team ahead of Broady who's list may have slipped a wee bit
so the Roos will be looking to a few of the youngsters in their 2nd & 3rd years at senior level to stamp themselves.
Broadford under 17s nearly lost two of there best play to marabolong (or however u spell it i don't know how to spell it!) on the weekend. Matt Williams and Matt Coomans played a practice match for them on saturday and the club offered them money to stay there and play, they told everyone they accepted the offer at school but when the coach of broadford found out he talked to them and he convinced to stay. the coach was not real happy when he found out. he said " u asked me to stay as coach and now u both are going to pull the pin on me, i'm not real happy"

This has to be a joke!!! What hope has Broadford got of shaking the unwanted tag of over paying players when under age footballers have reportedly considered a move for money. Seems the Roos will have great difficulty in the near future holding onto players if at 17/18 they reckon they're worthy of coin.
Where abouts is Marabolong exactly gta3 & I was of the understanding the young boy Coomans was told not to play football after suffering a nasty head injury over the off season???
heard the prac match between mounts and lancaster was a good one. fairly even all game with lanc winning by 10 points. mounts did have more scoring shots though. mounts also had about 3 or 4 good players out that will play onball and up forward. for those asking, mitchell did play for lanc but didnt do a lot.

I know practice match results can be misleading but I think it shows Mounts have slipped a bit and are going to have be on their game from the start of the season to play off again I reckon. What do u reckon?....
is denis ryan playing again? he didn't play on sat'd.
Mounts looked like a quality side, but the game was mared by a strong wind which really was detrimental to the standard of play at this time of the year.

I agree - there should be some interesting matches with some questions on how much Huntly and Colbo have improved, how much White Hills have dropped off etc.
My tips for what it is worth:
Broadford too strong for Huntly at home
Mounts to beat Colbo at Oniongrass Park
White Hills over North in a close one.
Whilst the match of the round for mine is Heathcote v Lockington. The Barrack reserve is looking a picture, and I think Heathocte might play the small ground a bit better with there strong forward set up, so I'll go for heathcote.

Any truth to the rumour that connors & Dearaugo in the center, postle down back and hutton up forward for he burn turned the game on its head against colbo last week??? colbo look to be big improvers in the hdfl, if sam hill fires colbo will find themselves in the finals and threatening for the flag, returning from sunshine a lot rests on the talented forwards shoulders along with HJ32.. Wedderburn must be regarded as genuine premiership contenders..
Geez Lancaster's form over Mounts last weekend held up, biggers winners in the KDFL yesty. How did the Colbo/Huntly day go who were the standouts? I heard last night Broady lost to Mernda by I think 5 points, but a few seniors actually played in the curtain raiser so they'll strengthen up a bit for the Huntly clash at home in a fortnight.
Colbo beat Huntly by about 5 goals in a tough hit out. Geary showed flashes of brilliance and finised up with about 3-4 goals for the day but generally was well held, this shows what sort of damaging player he will be in the HDFL WHEN he really fires. Huntly had a couple missing, same with Colbo, but generally I think the Huntly Hawks will improve heaps this year and will win their share of games.
Heard last nite that Heathcote and White Hills fought it out as well with the Hillies winning by a slender margin (could be wrong - if anyone knows more details pls post) and the coates had a few key players not playing.

Tell me gta what kinda of money would a EDFL 2nd Div 3rds side be offering players? This is exactly what Im saying about young blokes these days actually considering playing for money . . . . before they've even proved themselves at any level. If this rumour is true then whoever is in charge of the Maribynong Park under age teams cant be the full quid.
Heard Matt Coomans tried to play footy today without wearing a helmet is this true? Fair dinkum if the Broadford FNC let this kid play without something being signed by a doctor then it could make things difficult if he was to have some form of relapse whilst on the playing field.
just got off the phone to a mate who was at the w.hills/heathcote game on saturday.
he said w.hills lead most of the day and looked more than competitive.
waters, tobin and a couple of others did'nt play for heathcote but also w.hills were missing quality aswell, the ruckman and onballer from melb, brad mcconnell, dickens,q,sawyer and poyner.
edwards kicked another 5, so thats 20 from 3 praccy matches i think so he might kick a few this year.
maybe w.hills might not be as bad as everyone once thought after alot left.
he also said heathcote recruits conheady and bourke looked ok.
interesting to hear geary kicked a few for huntly against colbo, my mail was he will be playing chb this year, did ezard play and kick any for huntly?
it will be very interesting to see if any clubs pick up any more recruits before round one, could be a very busy couple of weeks ahead for last minute recruiting. i've heard of a few possible signings on the go and will post them here if they eventuate.

edwards kicked another 5, so thats 20 from 3 praccy matches i think so he might kick a few this year.
maybe w.hills might not be as bad as everyone once thought after alot left.
he also said heathcote recruits conheady and bourke looked ok.
interesting to hear geary kicked a few for huntly against colbo, my mail was he will be playing chb this year, did ezard play and kick any for huntly?
it will be very interesting to see if any clubs pick up any more recruits before round one, could be a very busy couple of weeks ahead for last minute recruiting. i've heard of a few possible signings on the go and will post them here if they eventuate.
It's going to be a great season with some upsets throughout the year I think. White Hills have pulled things together pretty well. Is any one going to have one final hit out this week or is are sides resting up and getting ready to go? It will be great when it finally starts.
just got off the phone to a mate who was at the w.hills/heathcote game on saturday.

dont think Ezard played
Heard that LBU recruit Luke Nicholls is one tough cookie. Word has it he is a very handy defender & hard at it . . . . if he is anything like his brother (Mark) who played at Yea last season he'll be a quality pick up both on and off the field.

Heard the players in question have been offered somewhere around $40 a week and that a Kilmore fella is behind the push to have boys travelling to Maribynong. Also heard only two players are going after an all in brawl in a practice match that several played in, scared the s#%t out of the others.
Coomans I heard has been given the all clear to play and should be a real benefit for the Roos when he gets some match prctice into his body.
can anyone tell me how that mad c**t jason "the snake" charles is goin this year, whether he will have much of an impact, whether he is still eating lots of meat?

Good news for young Matt and the Roos
jason charles, any news anyone?
Remember some time back Rowan Warfe as his strong links to Colbo were a hot topic. What's the latest does anyone know when he'll play the first of the 5-6 games he's meant to play for the season.

surely u carnt have locky and heathcote on the same money. from wat ive heard the cote have had a few big loses with peter driscoll and mark emmerson. locky have really only lost troy mitchell but have picked up matty martin, nigial van der boch and adam shawcross. dont really know about heathcore's ins.
hey doona i played against matty coomans last year and i also played inter-leaque with him, absoulte gun i no pioneers had their eye on him till they found out he was a broady boy. is he still at broady and is him and willow still 3rds or will they b movin up (surley play 1s)?

Im not involved at BFNC but from what Ive been told Coomans suffered a bad injury over the summer but has been given the all clear to play. Word around town is that Maribyrnong Park were offering $$$ to several local lads to go down and play EDFL 3rds, but Matt aint one of those who have gone and will be running around in the thirds again.

i'll have to agree with nesko on this one goat boy. really where did u pull these odds from, locky and heathcote at the same money??? and huntly 3.80?? they didnt go to good last year, but they only lost to colbo by a couple of goals a couple weeks back and they look like a better team then last year, i dont think the hawka's should be written off!! i think the colbo game will be the game of the round. should be a good one!

wll put your money on huntly then fella. simple as that. and to that other bloke on this thread, heathcote are going to be a good side this year and i can't split them and locky.

I think Heathcote should go in Favourites Goat.
Home ground advantage, 2 quality forwards from Bendigo League and a Big Ruckman & premeirship onballer from Swan Hill plus a few extras from that way ( Central Murray ).
LBU's depth will be tested with at least 5 start up seniors a few weeks away yet.
Lets gets serious now lads, final training runs are now complete, respective sides have been announced . . . . any surprises, who are the recruits or young guns we should watch out for?
Also who are the captains for the HDFL clubs for season 2006? My tips are Mounts, White Hills, Broadford just & Heathcote in a ripper contest.
Best of luck to all your clubs for 2006.
can anyone tell me who jason charles is playing 4 this season? anyone?

Why do keep going on about Charles u parrot they reckon he is a battler on big bulletts! for people paying him they said it's not a game it's a shame!! Couple of people I spoke too reckon he struggled at Serp which a 10 goal less comp in my opinion
Pi$$ poor effort by whoever updates the HDFL official site, why just put the senior results etc in and not the 2's and 3's????
Get with the program . . . .

Probably trying to talk himself up, which is what quite a few blokes have been doing on here, especially in some of the other leagues.

Ha ha great minds . . . was beginning to think that alfie was Charles himself chasing some self confidence
Noticed the Big Shpinkter Taylor booted 4 for the Broady Magoos yesterday, another big performance at Lockington this week and he'd have to be considered for promotion along with two of the clubs more experienced players in Alwin Neilson and Stuie Denness

:thumbsu: HEY, Doona and troops --- after all the doom and gloom over summer, Walshie and Hillies boys bounced back beautifully.
Big win over North Bgo 1st up. Now b4 u all go coy and say it was only North, let's remember the mantra.
You can only beat who's out on the park on the day.

No argument here Jock . . . . it did appear the a$$ coulda easily fallen out of the joint after two heartbreaking granny losses but to the committee must go the credit for being able to weather the storm, appoint a recognised coach and push on and recruit to cover their massive losses as best they can.
On a positive note great to see Jim Angove named best after many of us thought he was jumping ship when a lot of players were leaving.
Do you know if Spikka played Jock and is the Adrian named Dixon named in the best the same guy that woulda played 3rds with Spik around the 92-93 era?

Alfie is just a mate of Charles that used to play footy with him and is having a bit of a muck around on here. You are entitled to listen to other peoples opinions on charles, but myself having played in three premierships with the great man know that he is not a battler and is also not on big coin. Fortunately for you he will not be playing in your league this year as it is a certainty that he would rip it up. As for your comment that it is a 10 goal better league, I dont think that you are correct, it is only my opinion though. Cheers.

Who ya talking to jimmyboy? Never made that comment . . . . scroll up before you quote the wrong person!!!
Interesting game at Mounts on Saturday. The First half was a tight tussle with Mounts going in at half time 2 goals up, Colbo let themselves down in the third with Mounts kicking 8 goals - Colbo ran the game out and got within 4 goals before Mounts steadied and kicked the last three of the game.
Opposition should take note of Mounts Coach Cam Carter. He played a pretty top game, and he's way fitter than last year where he struggled with a bit of a knee injury. He and Lock spent a bit of time on each other and it was a very good contest.
The hoppers should get better as the season progresses.

Colbinabbin v Elmore
North Bendigo v Mount Pleasant
Huntly v White Hills
Lockington Bamawm United v Broadford
Heathcote Bye
My tips for round 2 - havent heard enough about Elmore although expect them to play finals no worries & Colbo were obviously in it a long way against Mounts on Satdy. Mounts easily, White Hills too strong in the local derby and LBU will have little trouble against a Broady side missing Dunne, Fletcher and Finch.

Dunne & Finch take the set penalty doona?
What has happened to Fletcher ?
Can any confirm that Sammy Hill has done himself some grief, doing a A/C ?

I believe Chris and Matthew both took one match, Fletcher was a late withdrawl Saturday, and I was told today a few at the club were unhappy with his level of commitment. Daniel has been one of the best performers over the pre-season & arguably the club's best footballer of the past decade so I'd hate to think the knives have come out already . . . he suffered a foot injury a month or so back and when it's right he'll be a huge plus for Farmer Brown and the boys so I hope those mouths keep shut!!!
Waste of a post I know but c'mon lift lads, we cant be seen lingering on page 2!!!
