View Full Version : Joel Reynolds
Have been impressed with this guy the few times that I have seen him - just wanted to get some thoughts from bombers supporters as to where he is at with his footy (I understand he is fairly injury prone and might be injured atm?)
1. Does he have a long term future with the bombers?
2. Given that his contract expires this year, is he possible trade bait? (obviously I wouldnt mind him at carlton). If so, what would u reasonably expect for him?
3. Given his injury concerns etc - can he still be rookie listed?
4. How much longer would the bombers keep him on the list before they ran out of patience?
thanks :)

I think this must be his last year before being tradebait - although if we don't get an offer, we'll keep him.
He's definitely got some talent, as well as a lot pace. Can play taller than he is.
Question marks over injury and application, though.
He's been unlucky, and he's one of the kids I really rate on potential. The problem is, there's only so many players you can carry on potential, and we're well over our limit.
A good ordinary player or a third round pick would probably secure him, assuming he doesn't come flying out of the blocks this year.
Pretty sure he's too old for the rookie list, and he won't be delisted anyway.

From what I hear and have seen application isn't the issue. Very hard trainer, especially behind closed doors. Commitment isn't an issue. The injuries (and illness) is.

He was drafted as a 17 year old. Pretty sure
22/23 is the cut off for the rookie list, so he wouldn't have any problems getting on.

I hope we dont prematurely trade him at the end of year. I rate him highly.
He could become a real class act. Were really missing that touch of class atr the moment especially with Rioli out.

I agree Clarky.
Joel was taken as a 17 year old and could have played another year of Under 18's.
So in development terms, this is really his third year. When you consider he was ill for almost 12 months of that, I think we really need to give him the time to mature.
If fit, he is in our best 22. He is one player who plays with passion, we saw him take it up to the Brisbane side as a 18 year old, even though he was only ever going to get his head punched in.
We have seen him take pack marks (against the Roos), we have seen him kick quality snap goals (against StKilda) and we have seen him use his pace. His game ANZAC Day a couple of years ago was a true indication at the ability he has. Sadly his body hasn't allowed him to do that consistently.
He is fit now. He has played the last couple of games at CHB and played well.
He does have one thing in his favour, Sheeds loves him.
Bring him in and let the boy run.

Heres hoping, Longy what do you think of his chances of playing this week? Is he ready? I hope so

We have heard different things. My source was a bit dodgy, so I'll back down.

True. I didn't pay much attention, because you can only hit the rookie list if delisted, and he will not be delisted. Traded, maybe. Delisted, no.
A talented kid who rates himself extremely highly..not the only one like that at essendon to be fair. If he can get a fair run at things injury wise he could be a fair player.
