OK guys the silly season starts here.
Someone told me yesterday the the club is willing to swap Todd Curley and Mark Alvey to Freo for James Walker. I already know that Curley has said to the club "If you want to trade me, trade me to a WA club"
What does everyone think?

Keep Alvey. Despite an horrendous run with injuries, the guy is a gun. His last couple of games this year proved that.

We don't need James Walker!!
He is a handy player, but he's a midfielder...

We are keeping Alvey!
But I reckon they would go for Garlick & Curley for Walker and a draft pick ;)
I think I should be a recruiter :p

Ok guys I have given it some more thought. The rumour doesn't really make much sense as it stands-That is we are giving up to much for a player like Walker.
BUT-And this is pure speculation on my part-lets put two and two together, and see what we can come up.
We all know Malthouse is pretty keen to get Alvey to the 'pies. The 'pies are also pretty keen on James Walker-he is Coventry's grandson.
We are pretty keen on Tarrant.
Freo needs good experienced players
SO My thinking is Alvey and Walker to Collingwood, Tarrant to us, Curley and one Collingwood player/draft pick to Freo.
Hows that? Sound feasible?

Well seeing as we are on the subject of trade rumours and i am bored i am going to list every rumour i have heard besides the ones that involve the superstars cause they are just crap.
Alvey to hawks for Graham with Collingwood also showing strong interest Prestagiacomo a likely option
Cox to Power for Lockwood
Essendon and Melbourne showing huge interest in R.Smith (fact not rumour) not sure how the dogs reacted to this but the RUMOURED deals are either Smith for Solomon or Smith and Ellis or Cox for Mcdonald,Robertson and Lamb
Ellis,Cox and Dimma for Grgic,Lamb and Beams
Dimma to the cats for Harley
Pat Bowden to tigers for Daffy
Ellis to Adelaide for Eccles
The biggest rumours with any sort of credibility have linked us to players such as Bizzell,Houlihan,Notting,Sholl,Stafford,Kingsley and Wilson
Cox for Biglands was doing the rounds but seems to have slowed
There have been alot of rumours about Walker and Bandy aswell
The big name trades that i have heard which i think are ridiculous are
Murphy and Bizzell for West
Tarrant for west
Grant for West
I hope that Bubba is not traded and i hope that we dont do any stupid trades although i think we will be very active in the trade period
:(

It really is the silly season if you seriously believe that Collingwood would give up Tarrant & another player / draft pick for two fringe players, which they have plenty of.

Dimma to the cats for Harley
Murphy and Bizzell for W
As if Geelong would give up, three players under 25 with promise
(a C-half-back, a ruck rover and a full forward)
Who writes this crap

Just because he hasnt played much senior footy, dont make the mistake of thinking he is a fringe player. Alvey is a very good player, and is very much required. We tend to be patient with our early draft picks and this is the case with Alvey. He would have been on everyones lips this season but niggling injuries held him back.
However if the right trade came then we would need to look at it.
What we need is a key forward, tall defender and a robust midfielder.
And I agree with Nolsey77 there is no way that the dogs would trade West for Murphy and Bizzell for West-we would want a lot more than that for a 4 time B+F winner who is omly 26

No no its GRANT Thomas to play for the WESTern bulldogs, after not being re-appointed St Kilda coach. We need tall defenders.:D

To further muddy the waters, we now have Mark Porter dropped from this week's final, and the Kangaroo's McKernan looking around. I would go for the former.

For a start we aren;t concerned with Alvey and second we are not giving Tarrant away for those 2 you "YOKEL"
Have Brad Johnson and a 4 th round pick and we might. Otherwise keep dreaming.

Collingwood may be more willing to offload Tarrant then you might think. questions over his attitude to training and preparation, as well as a personality clash with Buckley that both have admitted to. No doubt it would cost more than the two guys mentioned, but quite possibly not as much as a regular Australian representative and a draft pick.

As I said I was only speculating.
But Collingwood are quite keen to trade for Alvey.
Malthouse sees a spot for him.

I dont think he does we have plenty of players in similar vein to Alvey, North Melbourne would be interested though.

It is a fact that Alvey is being chased by several clubs and is not sure what to do yet.The bulldogs have left the ball in his court and if he wants to leave they will try to make a trade.Malthouse has shown strong interest in him but the dogs are having a meeting with him and a number of other players during the week

Don't let this one go through to the keeper: 'Tarrant for Brad Johnson and a fourth round draft pick?'
I'm flabbergasted. Johnno, quite simply a proven, experienced, quality player in our top 3 (in my opinion) AND a draft pick for a player who has DEFINITELY not proven himself to be top shelf, with huge questions over his motivation and commitment??? What? Have we caught the Frank Marchesani bug?? I wouldn't trade Johnno if Collingwood gave us Tarrant and one of THEIR draft picks.
Cool heads please :D

Don't worry WWB. I think that Markstaners is a Collingwood supporter. You know how it is, they have a high opinion of their guys and we have a high opinion of our guys. Dont forget about the West/Tarrant thing from a couple of months ago.

Just between you and me i think Tarrant is overated sure he is a good mark etc and good kick on goal but his build is very meek and i would more than happy trade him and a pick for Johnson.

Mark
Out of your three big forwards (Tarrant,Rocca and Molloy) who would you give up for a good trade?

21 Sep 2001, 23:25
It would depend what i could get an Tarrant is fetching the most and i dont value him to high so he could leave.
Rocca should be played down back and pumpit long ala Graham. I was very disapointed with Molloy he better improve.

I'm surprised to hear your comments re Molloy. I thought he was considered highly at the Pies, by club and supporters.
A bit of mongrel is what he brought to the forward line, at the risk of sending half of your forward line to the emergency wards of hospitals around the country.

Oh dont get me wrong Molloy did install some muscle into the club as did Rintoul till he was downed, but he wasn't quite at the form when he was at the lions.
