Hi Folks
Just wanted a relatively unbiased opinion on who you believe will win this week and why .... without going into the drivel of, "We're better, we'll smash them".
Cheers

It all depends upon Brown's influence on the game. Both teams aren't playing overly well at the moment so a little bit of swing either way will prove the difference, Brown may just be that swing.
As for picking the winner, I think it's going to be a tight contest. Brisbane by 8.

I would tend to think that Brown will have a Corker of a game. Always seems to be the way on a 1st up game for most players back from injury / suspension. It's then the next couple of weeks after that they go quiet.
Is S.Black far away from regaining his touch?
If this game was at the Gabba, I would say Brisbane are a shoe-in. In Melb, I am not too sure.
The Hird let-off IMO, is a disgrace and the timing could not be worse for Brisbane.
Saying all of the above, Essendon looked good, in patchs, against Collingwood, but then that's not saying much (Collingwood's form being bad).
I guess I'm looking for any news that may not filter to the West, say like: Voss smarting over the loss last week and vowing redemption, or Matthews firing up and threatening to drop some name players if they lose v Essendon.
Where is White at this stage? Injured / out of form / out of favour?
Cheers

I seriously doubt you would get a 'we're better, we'll smash them' quotes from this site.
It all depends which team turns up and we will not know that until they bounce the ball.

1. Voss is not happy, but we have never been a team of players that 'vow redemption' or the like. Voss has made it quite clear that all that run out on the ground is expected to play to the team plan, and if they don't, they will find someone that will.
2. White is injured, and was sorely missed on Sunday.

I'm not casting dispersions on the Brisbanse Site.
It was aimed at others. You would be surprised how much of this goes on.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

This should actually be a compelling game between, as one writer put it, 'two fallen heavyweights'.
I'm tipping the Brions but only just. By 5.

white just got dropped
far too old and slow for the eagles. A bit out of touch too, did play ok first 2-3 rounds.

I thought he was not there because of injury........my apologies.
Still think he was sorely missed, for no other reason than he is good for taking the contested mark which we struggled with against the Eagles.

i think the lions will lift with the return of brown, because now we have a structured forward line, with a true CHF, not a fill in. lions to win, by around 15-20 points

I think it will all come down to who wants it more in the end. Both teams not playing their best, I think Essendon coming off a win could start as favourites.
For Brisbane, it all depends if we can go back to basics and work from there. Brown should play well. Black I hope will be back to his killer best. Aka I would think would shine through, he was one of our best during the Eagles match. I think Brisbane CAN win it, but Essendon I would think will start favourites.

You have far too much time on your hands :)
Brisbane by 6-8 goals. Essendon played OK in patches but they were only playing a reasonably depleted Collingwood, whose form is nothing to be proud of either. To be honest if we had kicked straight we would've had another 6-8 goals on top of them.
Bradshaw usually gives Fletcher a headache, he is much stronger. And who on earth is going to be able to match Big Brown. Combine that with Brisbanes midfield and the fact that they are down at the moment. They will come away with the prize.
It should be a great game though, with both teams coaches currently questioning the efforts on teams. "flying the flag" and other assorted footy cliches. Should be a tough hitout.

Well put and I hope you are right.
My husband and younger children went to Melbourne last night and the eldest and myself fly down tomorrow. The family thinks we're down to see them for a long weekend for them to meet the new babies but in reality it's free baby-sitting while the grown-ups go to the game!

ROFLMAO - Classic!
Like to think we can win by a BIG margin cause of our poor % but i dont think thats the case especially with our form and being interstate!!!! I guess it depends on how much influence Browny will have and if Blacky benifited from his first two hitouts! I dont think we can rely on 1 or 2 - we need a team effort!!!!!
I am v v v worried bout how we are gonna fair re umpires considering they been brainwashed by the Saint Nick hype and that Effendon is their love child - I sooooooo scared that we are gonna get TOTALLY crucified!

Are you joking? That Hird incident deserved a 50 and that was it.
Yeah the Lions aren't as good down in melbourne. they got pumped by the hawks and in their current form you'd think they'd lose. But essendon are a weak unit, and im tipping the lions in a thriller.

The Brisbane Lions are still a 5-6 goal better side than us.
After watching both games against Hawthorn and the Eagles, you didn't look dead, I just think your guys just need to believe in and back themselves, they seem to be doubting their own and their teammates abilities. This game just might be the thing you need to run yourselves into some form.
It will either be really close, hard fought game or you guys will just run over us.
We seem to be in the same boat as you guys.
Good luck and may the best team win.
