Is it time for these two clubs to release the second verse on the official recordings of the club songs?

MELBOURNE

It's a grand old flag, it's a high-flying flag,
It's the emblem for me and for you.
It's the emblem of the team we love
The team of the Red and the Blue.

Every heart beats true, for the Red and the Blue,
As we sing this song to you
(what do we sing)
Should old acquaintance be forgot
Keep your eye on the Red and the Blue

Oh, the team played fine in the year Thirty-nine,
We're the Demons that no one can lick, lick, lick
And you'll find us there at the final bell
With the spirit of Twenty-six, six, six.

Every heart beats true, for the Red and the Blue,
As we sing this song to you
(what do we sing)
Should old acquaintance be forgot
Keep your eye on the Red and the Blue

GEELONG

We are Geelong, the greatest team of all,
We are Geelong, We're always on the ball,
We play the game, as it should be played
at home or far away
our banners fly high, from dawn to dark
down at Kardinia Park!

So stand up and fight, remember our tradition
so stand up and fight, it's always been our ambition
throughout the game we fight with all our might
cause we are blue and white
and from when the ball is bounced, to the final bell
STAND UP AND FIGHT LIKE HELL!

Melbourne's is absolutely laughable. The first time I read the lyrics to its second verse I was almost in tears. "We're the Demons that no-one can lick, lick, lick" - what the? And also, why bring up the past with the years 1926 and 1939? No one really cares.

Geelong's is pretty solid. The Power, Crows and 'Roos have the best second verses, though.

I like the dees gives a sense of traditon. The 2nd verse of geelong sounds terrible when sang. Lines such as 'stand up and fight' sounds like your thinking of not fighting. EY!

I love the 2nd Verse to the Geelong song! Although fans have changed it a little bit from "because we are blue and white" to "because we're the mighty blue and white"

Also, I like to add an extra "Stand up and fight like hell" on the end, with the first one being sang normally and the second one being done with more oomph, kind of like Yellow and Black in Richmond's song!

I remember a few times last year when the players sang the 2nd verse of the song after a game, very embarrassing that only about 3-4 players knew the words!

Geelong maybe, Demons no way!

Demons is just a what the..?

Anyways is it just me or have the Kangas added a massive verse to the start of theirs? Im sure it never used to go 4 as long as it does now before it kicks into the "join in the chorus" part of the song

I remember a few years back when the cats released their 'up-beat' version of the song, which included the second verse, the played it at Geelong's KP games, didn't really take off, I think most like the traditional form.

Although I do remember leaving the Geelong vs. Essendon final last year and getting both verses going on the tram, not everyone knew the words though.

Love that second verse.

Geelong has quite a good powerful second verse , Melbourne's is horribly old fashioned but has some sort of charm about it.

I believe Melbourne was co-written by Keith 'Bluey' Truscott as something of a joke (was probably funny back then), and when Keith died, the club adopted it as the 'official' second verse. This may be completely wrong, but I think its something along these lines.

I love the North song, especially that first part. Mainly because it was also the Victorian song.

"Hearts to hearts, and hands to hands.
Beneath the blue and white we stand,
We'll shout God bless our native land,
VICTORIA, VICTORIA!
Out they come, out they come, out they come to play,
Just for recreation sake to pass the time away,
Lots of fun, heaps of fun, enjoy yourself today.
The Victorian boys are hard to beat when they come out to play...

...So join in the chorus, and sing it one and all,
Join in the choRus, Victoria's on the ball,
Good old Victoria, they're champions you'll agree,
Victoria will be champions, just you wait and see!"
