I was wondering if anyone out there can give me any information on where Haydn Bunton Jr played his footy in the 1959 season? I know he left Norwood at the end of the 1958 season and returned in 1960 before heading to WA. I've always thought he went to Tasmania in 1959 but can't find any details of this. I've also heard he had an injury or an accident when he was there which limited him. Did he coach/play? Thanks for any information you may have.

According to the "AFL Hall of fame" Book he went to coach Launceston and suffered a knee injury while there. I remember reading somewhere once that the knee injury was the result of a motor vehicle accident(not playing), and was so bad that it looked like he wouldn't play again (which obviously he did). I don't think he managed to play whilst in Tassie though.

Thanks for that.

Just found this on Full Points Footy. It seems he did play in Tasmania.

Bunton coached Norwood for two years, steering the side to a losing grand final against Port Adelaide in 1958. In 1959 he moved to Tasmania as coach of Launceston, but after suffering horrendous injuries in a car accident prior to the start of the season it was feared he might never walk again. However, the same determination that had helped him shrug off the effects of Perthe's disease returned to the fore again, and Bunton not only walked once more, he returned to the football field. In that season's final series he picked himself at centre against City-South and managed over 30 disposals, all but 4 of them handpasses.
