A few times this year Cooney's gone on those Judd like magical speed bursts only to stall and totally fluff the end product. I have massive expectations from the kid and really love the way he is going about his footy, but I think he may lack a fair bit of confidence. Last night he probably should have kicked 2-3 after some sensational lead up work.
Cannot wait to see this end product.
it's his 2nd year...the lead up work is the hardest thing to do. He'll be finishing better than anyone in no time.
An absolute GUN!

Cannot wait to see this end product.Yeah he seems like he is really threatening to have a massive break out game where he kicks 4 or 5 goals and runs the ball from end to end but theres something just not quite there at the moment.I think when he bursts away he just needs to steady a touch before he kicks. His field kicking is good and his goal kicking seemed to improve early in the year but now it has dropped off a touch again. He will work through it.
In the game against West Coast I thought at timesh he looked a bit overconfident and a bit lazy with his footskills. One of the times I remember when he burst out of the centre and tried to do this little kick of the side of his boot and made an error. However when he is on song he has to be the most exiting player at the bulldogs
It seems when he's streaking in towards goal, and everyone's getting excited, he sort of has a decision-making breakdown - what'll I do, should I kick it long, should I kick it short to a contest, should I look for a forward - and it then comes undone. When he plays instinctively he looks a lot more sure of himself. He probably doesn't want to be thought of as flashy and selfish.

Exciting, isn't it ? I expect Griffen to be in the same league. An exciting 2006 season coming up.

I just love the way he plays and as he strings up more games he will gain more and more confidence, he doesn't seem to be afraid and will have a go...our Cooney will make us all proud! He is very exciting to watch.
next year he'll be fitter, stronger and faster, and used to dealing with taggers.

Well said,
his endeavour, second efforts, 1 percenters, ferocious tackling, movement through a pack, and oh yeah his sublime disposals, and vision to boot. All displayed with a very cool calm and confident manner.
I disagree that he is lacking in confidence at the moment. I think the opposite, his coach has instructed him to trust in his abilties, and at times he's misfired, as hes tried to turn it on. But gees, he's also given us the privilege of seeing some of those moments that make you glad you paid your money as a supporter.
When he hits his stride and puts it altogether he is going to be an absolute force in this competition.
Barring Nathan Brown & Penny, we seem to be holding onto our young talent of late.
Gaining Cooney, and a few others during our recent lean times, has almost made those barren years worth the pain, and we will be repaid in kind I feel.
Griffen and Cooney will develop quite differently IMO. I think whille Griffen will be very solid and will barely ever make errors in judgement by hand or foot. I don't think he will be the exitment mahine that Cooney could be. Cooney will make errors probably. But as they both develop I think thy'll form a great midfield similar to what Richmond will be hoping from Deladio and Tambling.

Only with big bulldog BALLS...
our boys will be the strongest midfield for much of the next decade...
Still need additional 2-3 quality KPPs to have a real ot at the big one.

Had a Brissy supporter in front of us at the game who turned around (after a rather loud COOOOOON) and aked how old the kid was and how long he'd been playing. He was stunned at my response that this was his second year......looks like a seasoned veteran with his confidence and poise....just needs to nail those running goals out of the middle.
