For the back pocket.
That is all...

Pretty fair assessment on current form.
Cole has been very dissapointing and does not deserve a position in our brilliant backline.
Or the rest of the side for the matter.

Swan's never played a bad game for us I reckon. Sometimes 'solid and dependable' is enough. But he has certainly increased his ball winning ability in recent weeks.

Agreed..
Cole needs to work super hard to get back into the side now, while Swan is playing fantastic football for us over the last couple of weeks!
I saw a bit of Betheras in his hardness for the contest. Rupe was never the most skilled but you were never left wanting for his desire for the contest.
Swan's gait and his running style seems similar to rups. Dont know maybey its just me who sees it.
Either way Cole is not staking up at the minute and seriously needs to reassess tactically how he approaches the game.Constantly trying to break through lines and harder still ,tackles ,is a surefire failure for success. He has a blind devotion to it and if spending some time at willy is Malty's way of getting his o change his ways then so be it.
I've been on the Swan bandwagon since 10 minutes before the game up here last year when I said to my mates that I had a feeling he'd have a top game. He did, and i've been on him ever since.
In saying that, I've always seen him as a forward, or a running half back. His terrific back pocket work has surprised even me.
Cole's continued duddishness hasn't surprised me though, although I still hope (but don't anywhere near expect) he'll come good.

Uncanny.
Ditto in every sense.
On talent alone.........
Cole > Swan
When he learns how good he can actually be we'll be a very very good team.

Let's not forget, Rup was a HUUUGE man. Must have been 8, maybe 9 feet tall...
At least, he played that way. Better overhead than Swannie, and was actually 4th in hitouts for us behind Fraser, McKee and Rocca IIRC.
Still Swan has skills on Rup, his kicking is like Ben Johnson's has become. It's faultless, but still not quite a strength - perfectly acceptable though. He reads the play exceptionally, an isn't as slow as he might seem either. Kinda like Presti in that way.

...with red hair, red like the fires of Hell!
richie has been phased out at moment, but i think there is still definitely a spot for the running rebounding back flanker, and it will allow johnno into the midfield, swan to take cole's role, and cole to take johnno's role
Cole needs to learn that it isnt rugby and he cant take on every tackle.
He was good last year which gave him confidence to try and take anyone on which failed miserably
Swan is definatley improving and becomming important to our backline
Against Geelong he was solid, but still turned the ball over a few times
Swan > Cole on Form
Cole > Swan in Potential

Would have to agree with that, both need to get onto the running track and gain some miles in the legs, richie cole has a good burst of speed going for him while swan looks like a one pace runner, a lot of skill going for him and looks as though he reads the play well, good investment

Richard Cole has nothing going for him, ******** kick, no brains, no defensive side to his game
Should be sent packing to some bush league as he is a hack, cant believe we wasted pick 11 on him ahead of Dal Santo
Swan on the other hand has done nothing but improve over his career and his hard work is showing off. Great future at the club
Cole has exhausted our patience, but he's not a lost cause.
Swan is doing OK given his deficiencies.
eddiesmith in another of your inconsistant rantings, you mentioned that Cole has no defensive side. I suspose you didn't see Richie last year?
Mick has probably told Richie to be more attacking and to get more ball, but he can't find the balance between getting the ball and stopping his opponent.

No i didnt see much of Richie last year as every time the ball entered our D50 his opponent was so far in front of him that Cole was out of the picture

ive been thinking about cole further forward away from defence
being closer to the forwards or goal is less likely to hang on to it as long and if he gets caught its not as damaging, just a thought probably never happen
