I know this thread will probably come across as being totally negative but I am going out on a limb here and posing the question - "Are we pretenders or are we contenders" I sat down with dodgyhodgy a few weeks ago and looked at our draw and we had Geelong finishing the season on 18 wins and four losses, and being well and truly entrenched in 2nd position behind the Eagles who were 19 wins & 3 losses! (We even worked out the finals draw and of course had Geelong pumping the Eagles come GF time :D ) Now we are in real trouble of finishing in the bottom half of the eight especially with some huge danger games looming in the next few weeks. I know we have had injuries/suspensions to key players and we have had to play some players in positions where they really have not stood up for us. All these are certainly factors in our last two results but good teams cover injuries etc. I think that maybe we have 'forgotton' how to win and with (hopefully) a couple of inclusions this week eg Corey & Sanderson I am hoping these guys might have a big influence on the next couple of games. It might look and sound like I am another fair weather supporter but believe me I am not. I have followed the cats for over 30years now and have never jumped off them.
So one word guys & gals - Are we Pretenders or Contenders! Your thoughts

Your thread would suggest otherwise.

We are side who has got into contention, or at least official recognition of contention without having a true "superstar" KP player. We are side who has done well with a spreading of the load but rarely do we have enough talent in surplus to to give us a easy ride.Like the Swans, who are deemed to have to play ugly , we have had to work and have worked hard to assend. We have played and have won with sharp, hungry minds and hard, fit bodies, all the while gradually acumulating experience.
All clubs have peaks and troughs, trully talented clubs can have a trough and still win, we need most players on song to be considered a power side and at the moment our trough is making us look average. Yes , we are a contender, yes we need all the box's ticked but we can win. We also can finish outside the eight and be beaten by most if we dont have our best fit, on the field, willing to do what must be done to win
I have to say what I saw on Friday night (from the discomfort of the Pies Social Club area) was extremely troubling. Backline in disarray (Scarlet was 5m behind Taz all night who kept dragging him up to the wing), difficulty in winning the ball in the midfield, and just awful delivery into the fwd 50. No point sticking our heads in the sand - do we have real problems or is it just a two week aberration?
I am not jumping off - I mean I stayed to the end on Fri despite the agony of hearing the roar of the morons around me every time CFC kicked a goal - but what needs to be done it get us back playing the kind of footy we know we can play?

I think one of the most worrying things of the last two weeks is really the form of King, Scarlo and Harley. For some reason on Fri night these guys looked slow and out on their feet. Scarlo was led to the ball all night and Harley could not hit a target. That first half we were probably lucky we were only 7 goals down cause the lack of midfield pressure our guys put on collingwood was real poor.
