Polly and Ronnie have been nominated in the 35 man squad for the indigenous team of the century.

But why was Brian Peake not included?

Maybe he did not perform as well at Geelong as we would have hoped. However, he was, if I remember, clearly our best player during the 1981 finals series. He was a great player and I can remember Tom Hafey raving about his performance after a number of games.

He also was All-australian captain, won the best and fairest at East Fremantle 6 times and a Tassie medal.

Surely a mistake not to include him.

I have a feeling he may not be aboriginal. If so it could go some way to explaining his exclusion.

Do they have to have played a certain amount of games [i.e 100] to be eligible ?

According to Colin Tatz in his history of Aborigines in Sport, Brian Peake is aboriginal. See http://www.aafla.org/SportsLibrary/ASSHSSH/ASSHSSH03.pdf

Sorry, but who really cares. How can you have a team of the century with 20 of the 35 will be forward pockets who get 3 kicks a game. And it's contains that great football personality Ernie Dingo.

If Peakey is Aboriginal he should definitely be in and it's a glaring error. Stephen Michael never played a VFL game so that can't be part of the criteria. Peake played over 400 games and was a phenomenal player in finals and state games over many years.

Very good player Peake. Unfortunately was poorly used by Goggin early on due to having an exceptional centreman (Featherby) and lack of forwards, was played at F/F and fwd. flank.

When finally played in the centre was a very good player for the Cat's.

Over rated , Over paid and over old by the time consented to come.

I remember Michael Turner talking about him, being on around 110,000 when he and Sam Newman, club stalwarts were on only 40,000

These days by the time he consented to play with us he would have played 100 + games for someone and would be a far more impressive in his late 20's.
