View Full Version : The Office- US version
Apologies if this has already been done, but ye gods it looks bad. Was planning on giving it at least one episode chance once it started airing on FTA, but ********.. just the clips in the advertisments make me want to kill someone.
Painful to see such a good show so badly raped.

I agree, what a way to ruin a show. Nothing will ever top the British version! Can't the Americans come up with something original?

Well, they can, but as soon as a show from another country becomes successful, they just have to make their own version. They can't just enjoy the original version as it is. I agree that it looks awful and I won't be watching. Wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't last long.

How much does it say about commercial television in this country (and possibly the population of Australia) when we have to have the American version on commercial television. Our we as thick as the Yanks? Apparently.

They can but they're usually cancelled before the episodes have been aired (Freaks and Geeks, Firefly etc...).

They did come up with The Simpsons....greatest American sitcom ever.

This will happen to me too, especially seen as how it's on channel 10.
Yeah I just know I'm gonna meet some ignorant types. It's just pathetic that Ch10 only pick up the American version, but actually thank feck they leave the good stuff to the ABC.

I have said it before on here and I will say it again. Give this series a chance.
I am as big of a fan of the original series as they come, and must admit to feeling the same way before I saw the US version.
Yes, it isnt as as good as the original, but try to watch it without comparing the two. The first episode is by far the worst out of the 6 made. I think it is the 5th episode, where they play a basketball match, is absolute gold.
Trust me people, you may b e pleasantly surprised. :)

While I haven't seen the seppo version, a few of my mates have. Their analysis.... It makes you cringe, just like Brent did.... but for all the wrong reasons.

I'm gonna give it a chance. The guy in the David Brent role, Steve Carell, is one of the funniest guys around so I'm interested to see what he's like in this show.

I'll give it a chance, even though I'm a massive fan of the UK version, Gervais had a bit to do with the yank version so it can't be that bad.
Also, the guy who plays brent is an absolute classic in other stuff I've seen him in, so it has a bit of talent involved.

Saw the longer add last night.
As mentioned in this thread, some absolute idiot will approach me at work and tell me about this great new show they discovered on channel 10. Then I will punch them in the throat.

It's good. The first episode is the worst but after that it improves rapidly.

I think it's wednesday nights but theyre all available online.
i have seen the whole series and it's crap.
David Brent is meant to be unfunny, his staff never laughs at his jokes but we all laughed in front of the TV.
The boss in the US version is the same, makes jokes and his staff doesn't laugh at it. But the difference is we the audience don't find those jokes funny too.

For anyone wanting to give it a chance: do not, under any circumstances, watch the first episode. A complete and utter balls up that will turn 95% of you away from what turns out to be a surprisingly ok series in its own right.
