AFL players who weren't regulars in the First 18 [Archive]

As the thread title says, does anyone know of some AFL listed players who were playing in the 2nds or 3rds at some stage of their schooling life?

I know Luke Williams was playing 3rds for St.Kevins in Year 11, but that doesn't really surprise me. :p

I have also heard that Medhurts played 2nds for his school, but apparently it was due to attitude rather than ability.

Any others?

Nick Gill who was at Melbourne in 2001 played 10C's.

daniel schell who was at crows played 3rds in yr 11 at rostrevor. chad cornes played 2nds at sacred heart in yr 11

Yet he went Top 10 in the draft 12 months later. 1997 must have been a huge year for him!

port took a huge gamble with cornes. at the time of his selection he was playing reserves and was not having a great time of it. it just goes to show how far he has come and how lucky port have been. he is an absolute gun

Still had a role in the following year's premiership. Just a late bloomer.

Ive also heard, dont no for sure, that Sean Rehn played in the seconds intercol for PAC when he was is year 12. Another late bloomer i think

wrong, chad cornes didnt play firsts in yr 11 but in yr 12 chad kiked bags of goals each week so he wasnt a massive gamble but yes he didnt look too appealing

I was under the impression that he played firsts in both year 11 and 12.

How much did he weigh back then anyway? 30kg? Why he didn't use the gym to get bigger (I'm assuming Xavier has one) I'll never know.

It was Simon Garlick's brother, Chris. School Captain 1989. Garlick kicked a record haul against Scotch in 1992.
