Simple question. Who do you think is the better player?

west, only because he has maintained his form for many seasons, Mitchell has to do the same thing to be considered, right now i think mitchell just though, but i think west at his best has not been achieved by Mitchell as yet.

West is a veteran and has shown no signs of slowing down. He is having a great year even by his standards and I think he's having a better season than Mitchell. West's last 5 weeks have been some of the best of his career and he will go close to winning the Brownlow
Mitchell is a gun and should will have a great career. Hawthorn fans should be rapt if he does what West has in his career

has micthell won 6 b&f's,been an all-australian on numerous occasions, toured with australia against ireland and been captain for a season like Scott West has? the answer is no

Contradiction?
what! having a bit of trouble understanding, I said west overall, because he has been so consistent over many years, I think right at this moment Mitchell is a better player, but west at his best and mitchell at his best, west has been the better. Even though west is having a great year i still think he was a better player 3 or 4 years ago.
Thank you.

yeh i know, a player that has one the rising star award, one the most clearances in his first year, and i think winning them this year, one of the best in and under players in the league right at the moment, man you should watch abit more footy.

You obviously didn't see West giving Mitchell a football lesson a few weeks ago.
Mitchell is good but at this stage is not in the same league as West.

mitchell is a young gun, but shouldn't be compared with west,
west is an absolute champion and one of the most underated players going around IMO

doesn't mean that mitchell hasn't had a good or better year than west this year, mitchell is almost all australian form.
west by a fair margin overall though.

still having a bit of trouble understanding? ogh well the world needs toilet cleaners, Thats one job that doesn't involve you reading, you can just go by the signs! hmm maybe not! you might have trouble recognising what the female sign is compared to the male sign, instead you could just wait outside and see which gender goes into which toilet. but in your case your better of just cleaning the disabled toilet.
There you go, enjoy your new life.

Scott West is infinitely better than Sam Mitchell.
West is having a better season than Mitchell this year as well.
West is one of the Brownlow favourites, and towelled Mitchell up in their head to head meeting in round 11.

I can't believe this is even a poll.
After what West did the Mitchell when we played the Hawks it was clear cut that West is 10 times the player Mitchell will ever be.

Hmmmm, so the 9 possessions a 1 clearance when playing on West meant nothing?

I thought he actually got 18 possies for the game, considering our side was well beaten. it wasnt a bad effort, he did have the better of him that day, but i still think Mitchell has had a better season than west, just though, overall West is the man because he has done this consistently over many seasons.

so your basing this on one game this year, players arnt allowed to have bad games, earlier on in the year Bannister killed hird, does that make bannister 10 times the player Hird will ever be.
I still think Mitchell has had a better year.

The Hawk midfield did comfortably account for the Hound midfield late last season, which only proves that basing hypothetical judgements on isolated one-off encounters is an exercise for half-wits.
That being said, West has the edge on Mitchell both in career terms and for this season to date.

Half-wits say's the bloke that comparing midfields when the thread has been about two individuals.
I find players going head to head in non negating roles an excellent indicator of abilities.

Which is most likely why West was clearly too good for Mitchell a few weeks ago.

so west beats mitchell once this year, one of mitchells only average games for the year, and that proves everything? Crawford beat Judd easily when he played on him... does that mean Judd isn't comparable to Crawford? Its pretty lame logic some of you dog fans are using. No one denying that West is better overall (mitchell is only 21 by the way) but Mitchell has had a awesome year, and would be up there for All Australian.

West over his career, but get back to me in five to ten years time and I might think differently. :)

Sam Mitchell leads centre-bounce clearances (40), total clearances (81), effective clearances (50) and hard-ball gets (63). as i said one of the best in and under players in the afl at the moment.

West has giving players a football lesson the last few weeks, taggin a player and getting 40 touchs a game. As many saided after the dogs hawks game it was a Man teachin a boy a lesson.
Mitchell is a very good player but West has been outstanding for 13 years.

Good post.
It's very hard to compare players of such vast age differences. West has accomplished so much in his career (6B&F, AA, 2nd Brownlow, etc) and Mitchell has done so in his short career also. I'd take West over Mitchell on both fronts, however, Mitchell is having a stellar season and is the most likely player in the future to emulate the feats of S.West.

It was pretty implicit in the comment that Mitchell was a clear member of that winning midfield and outperformed West on the day, which is why he scored media and Brownlow votes where West didn't.
The reality remains that only half-wits make sweeping judgements on a single performance, which would have every quality midfielder in the comp rated ahead of West, depending on the game in question that you wanted to assess on.
The smarter Bulldog approach would be to highlight the fact that West is ahead 3-1 on head to head meetings, which highlights his quality, but given that he is about 9 years ahead of Mitchell this should hardly be surprising.

West went toe to toe with Mitchell after the week before Mitchell had arguably his best game for the Hawks.
West won out easily.
End of thread.

As youd expect a bloke who has played at least 8+ seasons more than Mitchell has
Crap thread, its like comparing Cooney to Crawford....

Never mind, Wolfers.
On this logic, its shut the gate on any Hodge vs Cooney debate, given Hodge's comfortable besting of Cooney when they went head-to-head in round 19 last year
At any rate, as with all polls like these its pretty pointless.
West is, predictably, well ahead in career terms, but every club in the comp would take Mitchell as he has another 8-10 years of career left ahead of him and will only get better from here.
