View Full Version : They never shepherd

If you have two dockers running the ball they will always try quick passes to get around an opposition. They never have one try to shepherd to protect the ball carrier while the other keeps runs on. Drives me mad!

Dead right. Number 1 offender: Headland, and number 2 would have to be mundy. Mundy needs to learn this skill, otherwise he does not deserve a spot.

It's one of those indicators that we're not willing to put in the hard yards to help out a teammate. Whenever there is a loose ball and we have a 2 on 1, one of the two always peels off hoping to receive a handball instead of doing the team things that aren't measured by statistics. It's the same as when a Freo player is about to be run down from behind. No one yells out "you're hot, you're hot!". Our tackling has also been poor in the last month.

Mundy is young and will learn. Headland should know better.

Surprisingly we applied the most shepards of any team this weekend and were 3rd in 1%'ers.

That one along the boundary line was a bloody good effort.

Before this weekend, I would have agreed, but like the stats showed, I thought we helped each other out a lot more this week. Dodd is another one that needs to be more effective.. I think he's still thinking too much and not just doing, when it comes to shepherds, knock ons etc.
