View Full Version : Power Trade Rumours
I have heard the following Power trade rumours today.
I am sure that (true to form) only about 5% will come true.
Croad for Dew - I can live with that.
Pavlich (Bucky is his uncle) for Josh Carr (so he can play with his brother) - not sure I like this one
French, Francis and Lockwood all to the Crows - not sure who for but Skipworth and Johncock mentioned - our depth gives us some excellent bait this season.
Port have offered the following for trade:
French
Dew
Thurstans
Lockwood
Harwood (if no trade will be delisted)
We are also in the hunt for Holland. I would prefer Croad !
Thoughts please.
Macca19 your thoughts please.
Nod, you are kidding Francis, French and Lockwood for Skipworth and Johncock. Why don't we give the Crows Tredrea and Stevens for Gallagher. I glad it's just a rumor. After seeing Johncock playing for the Maggies during the final series, why would the Power want him?.
I think Croad is the player we need and we should give up either French or Brogan as well as Lockwood for him and even a draft choice if we have to. I think we have more chance of Croad than Holland because I think we could offer Hawthorn the sort of players they require more than we could offer Richmond.
As far as Pavlich goes, I think everyone is wasting their time he is contracted to Freo and I don't think Freo will let him go. Both Adelaide team had a chance to get him a couple of years ago and they didn't, so bad luck.
As far as Carr goes unless the club is going to get a quality player for him, they must keep him.

If we get rid of both Dew and Francis then there goes our two biggest midfield kickers who can break a zone!
Im not sure thats a good idea at all.
Ill go thru each of them
Croad for Dew - its a win/win situation but god it would be really really hard to get rid of Stewy. I dont think it would happen. Id rather get rid of Francis (seeing he wants more money) and a draft pick for Croad. Im a big fan of Croad...he would be perfect for full back/half back.
Pavlich for Josh Carr - we dont need Pavlich. We have Tredrea...and with Lade coming back next season there would be no space for Pavlic, unless he plays in defence.
French, Francis, Lockwood for Skipworth, Johncock and someone else - if this deal goes ahead i might as well rip up my membership.
Skipworth??? no thanx....weve got our small midfielders like M Stevens, Carr, Murray. we dont need another.
Johncock - could be handy but the jury is still out on him...makes a lot of mistakes, and seeing as he plays in a back pocket...he really needs to work on the defensive side of play.
The three player si would want from Adelaide would be:
Crowell, Beinke and Johnson.
Im a huge fan of Crowell, and he would be so bloody handy at full back or full forward for the Power.
Holland would be a great pick up....he isnt as good as Croad, but would be a perfect replacement for Mead and Paxman.
We have a very strong list, and we dont need to trade many of our top players to make it stronger.
It would be hard to see Francis go as he is a favourite of many port fans....same with Dew - after nurturing him for 5 years he is now one of the power midfielders in the league and hopefully next year will add consistency to his CV.
We should look for trades for Lockwood and Harwood - for other forwards, like Beinke or Crowell
we should look for a trade to North for M Stevens (altho his season this year has been near perfect in teh sanfl)
we should look for a trade for one of our big men - French or Brogan probably.
We should keep Dew and Thurstans and try and find a trade for Morgan.
Thanks for your thoughts.
My thoughts on the players mentioned:
Stewie - yes 42 goals for the season and now over 100 in AFL would be hard to give. I would like to see him use his strength a bit more, but yes we still have upside.
Croad now appears to be unavailable. My doubt with him is a comment Russell Ebert made during the Hawthorn final, suggesting he may not use his brain as much as he could. This comment may be supported by the rumours about his recent punchup with a Hawk teammate.
Carr - agree with you. We need his aggression.
Pavlich - CHB or FF and try Chad at CHB ?
Skipworth - His toughness impresses me. I rate him.
Johncock - Hasn't played a lot of footy yet so skills will develop. I admire his attack on the ball.
Beinke - Can't see him keeping out the juniors for long
Crowell - agree with you.
Johnson - how many games has he played in the last 3 years.
Morgan - I have seen him play live only once. If he is finally fit I would definately keep him.
I want us to pick up a physically strong midfielder.
I can't wait to see how far Kane Cornes developes this season !

Yes Morgan is a keeper but he is too injury prone which is why we need to get rid of him. He has been on the list since end of 98 and has only looked like getting a game once in 3 years.
Physically strong midfielder...we have Guerra who is tough as nails and Wilson can play there (he should play there anyway...wasted in the back lines) as well. It would be good if we could get James Wilson, cos he is already physically matured and looks like a good sort. Maybe even Shane Holmes from Port who was the biggest improver for the Magpies this year.

I can't understand why Port supporters are so keen to trade Barnaby French  The bloke is a champion.
However, if you want to offload him so bad, I'm happy to have him (and one other player) in exchange for Pavlich.
How long do you think James Wilson will last in the draft ?
Good call on Guerra and Michael Wilson - he may be nursed back. We have seen him perform in SANFL finals at a very young age and we need him fully fit for the 2002 finals.
Of the players mentioned already i think that French is very, very tradeable (we have a lot of big man strength and he is, beside Primus the oldest). Also with French he does offer some value for other clubs. We would be mad to keep all of our big men (Primus, Lade, French, Brogan, Ackland, Bishop, Thurstans, Morgan), i think the time is right to trade French.
Wouldn't trade Carr.
Dew could be considered to trade, but if he keeps working hard we should keep him, he can stilll improve a lot.
Would keep Morgan, why trade him, we would get bugger all for him and he is still very young and he and Thurstans have definetly shown improvement.
Lockwood is tradeable but i wouldn't mind keeping him.
Harwood is an interesting one, on his day very good, but can be shocking. A trade of him and French may be attractive to some teams.
As for those we are looking at Skipworth - no way, he isn't much good at all.
Johncock, i think this kid can play, reminds me of Byron Pickett (not quiet as big- yet).
Beinke not worth it, will probably be delisted, would look at picking him up very later in the draft or preseason draft, could be a stop gap fix for our forward line for a year or two while Cornes continues to improve.

Yeah he is good...but he is also the most tradebale big guy weve got.
How about Barnaby French and Natahn Steinberner? :D
Nod: I think James Wilson will go in the top 30. It depends on what other scouts think of him. He definatly has the talent to be a consistent performer down the track.
Eago77: welcome to bigfooty!!! I agree the time is right to trade French
I would be suprised to see James Wilson go that high in the draft. I've seen him play a fair few games and while sometimes he does impress me the majority of times he seems to struggle at SANFL level. Considering the fact that Didak And Fiora haven't set the AFL alight and i thought that they dominated at SANFL then i wouldn't think that James Wilson would be all that a great a pick up early in the draft considering the depth of talent this year.
I would love to be able to trade French and Harwood and Stenchberger for Pavlich but i doubt that Freo would go for it.

you have a good point but Wilson seems to be more mature at the moment. He is also older.
Didak and Fiora both had way too high expectations on them and were thrown into the deep end when they probably werent ready. Didak hasnt been pushed and was one of williamstowns best players all year....he was given a taste but wasnt thrown into the deep end.....whereas Fiora was and he has been injured a few times.
Agreed that Wilson is more mature (same age as Fiora is now and two years older than Didak). He is certainly stronger, but i still don't think he will go that high. Sometimes his skill can let him down just like Michael but (also like Wilbur) you could never question his commitment or courage. I wouldn't mind drafting him but not so high up.
To change the subject what is happening with Fabian?

Here is a questin....should we get Brett Ebert in the father/son rule??
I dunno whats happening with Flash. Apparently he wants more money and isnt happy that he is part of a rotation and "doesnt get enough game time". He is getting older and wouldnt mind trading him if we got a younger already established player for him
Don't know much about Brett Ebert, only what was in the paper a week or so ago. But look if he is half a good as his dad, then why not? How old is he anyway?
We are certainly becoming a family club anyway with all the brothers we are drafting!
As for flash i would be gutted to see him go, he is just a great bloke (quiet but very honest) and he has improved 10 fold over the last 3 years. Saying that though if we could get a good young player then the club has to look at that. I really couldn't see him uprooting and moving interstate with all of his kids and frankly the thought of him playing for the fruit loops makes me ill.
Also i think that Michael Stevens is also worth trading to North, they still seem to be interested. But looking through their list there doesn't seem much that we would be interested in, maybe a 2nd round draft pick?

Brett Ebert is only 17 and looks a very good prospect...we should definatly pick him up i reckon just to make sure we have him for the future.
Should Port look at trading for Damien Hardwick, no that he seems like he is also available?
Perhaps Lockwood (who i think Sheedy still rates) and maybe a French would be an ok trade. Would help us as he is obviously very hard at it, we could probably use another tough on baller to go with Carr & Francou and help get the ball to the runners and skilled players like Stevens, James & Schofield (if he is still there).
Essendon may just want early draft picks so it might be worth trading those players (French, lockwood or Schofield) to the west for early draft picks as WC & Freo have a lot of good picks early.
If i could get any of the players that have been suggested are going to be traded, i would look at trying everthing to get Croad, then Mercuri or Hardwick. Hollands would be nice but he seems very likely to be a crow.

Hardwick would be ok i suppose. He is 29 tho which is a worry. We seem to be trading players/drafts for older players
Montgomery - 28
Wakelin - 27
Hardwick is 29
we are lookin at Waterhouse who is 27-28
We should be looking at getting a few YOUNG key defenders like a Holland (altho he is now seemingly taken) or someone like that, plus a young forward like Daniel Schell.
If i was in charge of Port i wouldnt want to trade many of our established stars...i know you gotta trade quality to get quality but there is no point in changing around half our side.

I take the view that almost everyone is tradable...the only players I would not trade are those who are best in class for their position. For me this is Primus, Tredrea and that's about it. After that I would trade a "star" ( Carr, Cornes, Francis, Dew, Burgoyne, Wanganeen) are all options.
Stevens is a top player but we must face a chance of losing him in the future and have him return to Vic....therefore I would consider him tradable as well.
Having said that I would agree with Macca that age is also important. Our defence does need suring up so trading for Hardwick would be ok but perhaps Francis or similar is the way to go. I think we are in the hunt for Croad as we have what Hawthorn want....Croad can hold down FB or CHB for 10 years so I would be willing to make an investment, given the structure of our midfield at the moment.
I will be most worried if we do nothing. I do not think we can rest and let "maturing" take care of things. We have some structural definciencies (mainly in defence) and should be actively looking to rectify those.
If we got Pavlich then I would be prepared to try Tredrea at CHB and Pav at CHF....just to see how it goes.
Satay Mat
We are starting to trade for older players rather than looking to the future. To me that suggest that those high up in the club now that we are just about there and with some fine tuning with some more expirence players that we will take the next step.
Any truth to the rumor that West is on our shopping list? If so i don't think that i would trade lade, i would much rather give up French and 1st draft pick, would the Bulldogs take that?
With either West or Hardwick it would mean that we would be in a great position next year. If we could get Croad i think we would be in a good position for the next 6-8 years!
Francis for Hardwick would be a good trade, in my opinion. Francis is only a year younger, and Fabian probably needs a good kick up the rump to get himself going....meanwhile, we'd have acquired a 2000 premiership player & All-Australian. He's also a good rough player, and Port can always do with a few of them....mostly our defence is tough, but not rough.
It'd also free up the wing, where I'm sure players like Cornes, Cassisi, Koulouriotis, Guerra, Murray could flourish.
Skipworth & Johncock were both overlooked by Port for a reason last year.....because we've got good players that can play those positions. Neither of them have done enough to make us trade wildly to get them.
Pavlich for Carr...I don't see it happening. The mere hint that Port might want a Freo player gets their back up....they hate Port for rubbing the Dockers noses in their own mediocrity for the past 5 years, as we saw by their unreasonable demands for a Waterhouse trade.
Jarrad Schofield + pick #31 to West Coast for picks #6 & #38, I could see happening.

rumor has it M Stevens has been traded for S Cochrane
m. stevens for cochrane would be a nothing trade....you'd rather have a draft pick.
