I am the only one who thinks Teague is only an average footballer at best (if courageous) and our backline is probably our biggest problem at the moment and players like Teague and Livingstone can't cope with some of the better / taller fowards in the league.
I know he won the B@F last year and he had a pretty good debut year with the Blues, but he has dropped off alarmingly this year.

You can't blame him though, the football is coming down at an alarming rate with hardly any pressure from our midfielders which is killing Teague and Livo.
His by no means our best player or anything like that, but he is honest, couragous and just unlucky to be stuck in the backline with the ball coming down to near prefection for the forwards.
We need a specialist defender to help him out.

Agree Stokesy..........As good a footballers as Kouta, Stevo, and Campo are, they have never been renowned for paying attention to their direct opponents.
One of our biggest problems this year is we have never really been able to stop a rampant opposition midfielder. Walker has done a couple of good jobs (Aker & McLeod spring to mind) this year, but Bannister and McGrath haven't been as effective as last year in that role.
The other problem I see with our key defenders, is that they are all only around 6'3. IMO we really need Hartlett (6'5) to slot into CHB, send Thornton back to FB, with Livo taking the 3rd best opposition tall.

How tall was SoS? I think that he was only about 6'3" or 6'4" wasnt he... and he was possibly the best full back we ever had. but I think that you are right in wanting a good tall at CHB.
I would like to see someone with a bit of height and strength at FB taking on the forwards. Thornton would be a good option, but he is still a little under the pump strength wise I think
Silvagni was 194cm which is 6'4 & 1/2.............the difference, Silvagni was twice a wide as Thornton & Livo (at the moment).
My point is, we still need a big bruising presence in defense. Another at CHF won't go astray either!!!

Backline is the problem?........hmm, you might wanna look at the alarmingly rapid and easy rate the ball is moved down the ground or out of the centre.

IMO, Teague seems to line up on bigger bodied forwards than what he really can handle. This is what is making him look bad. Add that with the amount of times the ball comes into our defence, it makes it hard on all of our backman.
We need Livo and T-Bird in the gym over the summer, and hopefully Hartlett can have a big summer in there with them. This will give us 3 bigger bodied backman and then Teague can concentrate on the small half forwards.

Teague has had a far inferior season to last year, but he is not the only one. Do you think Carlton have got worse or the other teams have improved?
its just sporn mum

the fkn 'afl team of the century' backline couldnt stop a decent forward line with good supply.
ITS ALL ABOUT THE DELIVERY OF THE FOOTY.
Very little midfield pressure is the biggest problem at carlton. dont let anyone tell you otherwise.

How dare you criticise Teague? ;)
I can't actually think of any defender who's had a brilliant year, and therefore find it unfair that you would specifically single him out.
Thornton and Livo have also missed games consistently throughout the year which has then forced Pagan to place Teague onto the opposition's best forwards.
Inadequate backup combined with minimal midfield pressure is bound to make any defender look bad.

Unfortunately he is too small to be a KP and too slow to play on a quick medium sized forward. that's why the Kangaroos weren't too worried about off loading him. you can never question his courage though.

Maybe it's a lack of confidence, but it seems like Teague has lost the best asset of his game.... pack marking!
Last year he did this constantly, and often at critical stages in the game. Each time he did it the confidence of our side lifted and we played with spirit.
Now he just punches the ball. And half the time I reckon it goes straight back to the opposition. :(

He even has got into the habit of punching when he is all by himself.
teague is a bona fide hack. worst b'n'f winner in our club's history.
