Steve Waugh & DVT - Will he miss the first test?

If all reports that Steve Waugh has DVT from the plane flight back from England, there is a good chance he might rest himself for one of the test matches against New Zealand, along with a few one dayers. Does this now give Michael Slater a chance to get back into the test side and push Langer down the order or will the selectors go for a Queenslander in the first test if S.Waugh isn't playable?

I wouldn't be surprised if Slater's played his last Test match.They seemed pretty unimpressed with him in England both on & off the pitch, I heard he didn't take being dropped for the final Test at all well.

I also think Slater has played his last Test. If Steve Waugh does not play in the first Test I think they will play Katich like they did in England. Katich has been groomed to be the next batsman to make himself a fixture in the side.
