Pearce was definitely a highlight. Very disappointing that the crows didnt delist more players last yr so we can draft someone like him. We need a crumber.
I thought tredrea playing deep was a positive. And as this worked last yr lets hope mark keeps it that way. Although i didnt see the first half, so i am unsure of where he played then. Closer the better anyway.
Pearce and Pettigrew were very good.
I thought White took some of his toughest grabs yet at AFL level.
We are 1 more week closer to playing more young guys.

Yeah, he is very dangerous close to goals, has very strong hands, took some great grabs. He was good today. If the delivery didn't dry up he could have another field day.

Pearce will be Port's best pickup this year. He is a complete gun and will turn into a superstar. Good to see some sturt talent out there.

Thomson, Chaplin and Eckerman's SANFL form. Symes named fourth best for Centrals. Pearce and Pettigrew making Ebert and Pickett's forward inadequacies this year show up even more.
White was very serviceable. Pity he was benched after three quarter time.

I wasnt going to write anything yesterday, as some times is best not to say nothing until you calm down and think. After pulling every god dam weed out my garden yesterday, and thinking all the time, i will say something. I wont reply to any negetive threads any where, i think everyone else is saying enough.
* I am still President and still proud of the Greatest Supporter Group of the Greatest Club in the land.
* I will continue to build and make PAFC the best I can for all of us in WA.
*I look forward now to 2006! The future with our young kids coming though, and what excitment it can and will bring to our club.
*I will get to go the the B & F this year.
*I will be forever a Proud Member of PAFC and continue to support them though the bad and then love the good when it comes back around.
*I will get to see others suffer this year, fall out from the finals, cope ******** left right and centre, while we build and get ready for a great 2006.
*I have seen and witnessed my Club win the ultimate prize in AFL and know that the next one will not be to far away.
*Pearce, White, Eckerman, Chaplin, Pettigrew, Surjan, Gilly.......to name but a few.

Exactly my sentiment...but it is a wonder what pathetic defeats do for the garden!
When my old SANFL club existed - Woodville - the garden was pristine! It follows with that history I know well what pathetic looks like, and yesterday we all saw it from a group of players who actually know a bit better...unlike the mostly hapless 'Peckers/Warriors players.
Next year...with youth alongside experience, there's no reason to despair. And if we have a run of luck avoiding injury, as the Crows have, we should be back near the top.
I would like to pre-emptively ask for Eddie Woloschek to hold back at this point ;)

Sorry, can't resist a few random thoughts . . .
Powers-that-be now realise (about 8 weeks after us) that the season is toast. For all his time at Port, Choco doesn't seem to understand the mentality of Port supporters. That crappy Sturt away strip which passes for a heritage jumper has one good feature - the premiership years. These were the only seasons that counted. We are not interested in miracle victories to vault us into the finals so we can finish sixth, or losing prelim or even grand finals. When it becomes obvious that we won't go top, start to plan for next year when we will.
Playing the kids. I see where someone said Peel is a dud. He wasn't great at Brighton Grammar and not the best player in the side, but miracle of miracles . . . however, it's pointless that he rots on the vine. he might get a few kicks v carlton and someone might look at swapping him for a low pick, which should lead to . . .
A total reassessment of the way we draft. More on that later when i have time for some serious analysis.
The negatives . . .
Just where can we find a scapegoat that has any market value at all? Pickett and P Burgoyne are the only tradeable types. Monty, Poulton, James and maybe, sadly Wanganeen and Wilson, are finished. Bishop looks very ordinary too. I'm not so quick to condemn Primus and Francou. And Kingers has been ok.
We have a few stars and a few kids with a bit of talent but I am just not sure how the coaching staff, which has a game plan to match its personality, will be able to guide a squad which might be headed for bottom 6 (worse if we can't win at home).
We need a new fitness guy for a start. And the board/admin has become a joke too.
Overall . . .
We are Port Adelaide. Of course we'll be back. But it ain't just gonna happen. I pre-emptively invoke the ghost of A R McLean.
Wake up the echoes!!!!!

I reckon Pettigrew will be a player. He just looks classy. Doesn't make mistakes, good height, runs well. Pearce looks to have something. I actually felt for the kid in the last quarter on Makepeace. Would probably have been baked after the game by the coach for being nowhere near him for two goals, but his senior teamates need to take some responsibility for that. The look on his face after the game was the one of a kid that learnt a sh1tload in only 15 minutes.
Tredrea is a monstor and the best CHF since, or maybe even before Carey. Not better, but if he can pull you blokes from this possie to another flag....What a gun.
Burgoyne destroyed us. Only bloke to beat Rawlings in two years. Shaun was great early. Unreliable though.
I don't think any fans have felt frustration like you lot. Win a flag, show great signs in the year after immediately followed by rubbish. A stubborn coach, a pretty old group with kids who can play but don't get much chance to and the terrible feeling that you KNOW it is just an attitude problem. Not good enough is ok if they have a dip. Capable of anything and producing rubbish is just painful to watch I would imagine.

Among everything in your post I agree with, these points really stand out. The board has been mute all year, yet there are some good football people on there. Surely Bucky can't have been the only guy there with some vision.
Just on fitness, apparently their measures are the same as they were under Russell ... but I never thought we've had the physical presence of Port sides I've known.
The other reaction I've had is, I'd like to see them recruit more Port Magpies players. Now Cahill, Clayton, Fairclough etc are back, the Port Adelaide system and gateway to the west coast is open again. There's benefits accruing quickly and the Power should take advantage. But judging from Choco's comments in the press conference, the draft picks are on the table.

I understand from sources that the place has gone to the dogs and that the people in certain positions might be easily replaceable by beter people.

Well, if that's the case, they could have had Freddie McGuinness or even Georgina McG walking em thru Andrew Russell's program. Why bother with a new guy?

Not sure that Choco would know what to do with talent if it bit him on the butt. I was at the draft when we picked up Salopek and Gilham and his body language outside the room indicated he was just stoked with the former and yawning about the latter.
If a young Greg Phillips, Jack Cahill and Jeff Potter arrived at Alberton and quietly went about their business, they'd be condemned to the SANFL for a couple of years. In contrast, Bomber Clifford would have gone straight in because he was the super-confident type like Montgomey. Choco loves blokes who gob off. (And he's certainly one of them). He favours style over substance but I think he knows jack about either. (As in, the tie was a great gesture - everyone knew what it meant, but the Alan Scott thing was a poor semi-private dig at a generous old fool. Nasty, and demonstrated a siege mentality.)
Nuf ced.
IMO the positives were the youngsters.
Pierce did ok. Wish he was given more time in the midfield when the oldies legs gave up, but so be it.
Pettigrew showed that all he now needs is gametme.
White. With White in the forward line Tredrea "roams" more, thus our best player is more involved in the game. This is not the first time that it has happened.
Tredrea with White in the team is > Tredrea with White not in the team.
Gilham__ who knows. How much gametime did he get? Hardly saw him where the ball was.

Pettigrew was ok in the first half when everything went ports way. He had a goal given to him by shaun. The next 4 times phile touched the ball a direct turnover incurred... the 2 worst were......
3rd quarter half kick wells marks...goal
4th quarter handball recieved from tredders fumbled, pack tredders gets it kicks long north clear, take it the length on the rebound C. Jones 4th goal.
