not long ago purchased Little Britain Series 1, i like the show i think its funny, but one sketch flew straight over my head
the one where the two fellas are dressed in purple sparkly suits, with brown painted faces, and there is some song going in the background while they eat cereal, i dont get it
forgive my ignorance, but if someone knows could they explain it
sorry if Little Britain already has a thread, but if not, what do you guys think of the show?

Don't know which sketch your talking about sorry. But I love the show and always watch it - when its on that is. I tend to miss the "Very Little Britain" on saturday nights due to the footy, but i should purchase it on DVD some time.

Don't know Sorry but I think when i see it which I haven't (that scene) I might be in the same boat.SERIOUSLY these guys are whacko.I love the show though.The scenes where that guy is always in the shop asking stupid questions just bores me though.Its not that funny.My favorite is VICKI and the guy in the wheelchair scenes it just gets me every time.I find their comedy so bizarre its frightening.I've never come across such a demented duo ever.I really find the silliness of it all lifts me and I don't even know why really.I think because life in general is so stupid it just compliments it perfectly.Heard in some gossip mag Kylie is watching it to get over her cancer treatment.Its scary and funny I think thats the perfect mix. :D

It was brought to my attention that a girl I teach looks and acts like Vicki Pollard. The next day I look at her while she's talking to me and start cracking up.
"What's funny sir?"
"Nothing Vi, er, Melanie, something just popped into my head, sorry"

Lou & Andy are my favourites, but the other day I saw the one where Vicki Pollard gets a black boyfriend called Germaine and starts doing her "yeah but, no but, yeah but... don't be giving me no evils!!!" thing in a Jamaican accent. It's good.
LoL good to see people like the show....but no-one can answer my question still...oh well doesnt matter

I don't really get it either but I do have the script book from series one.
The guys are supposed to be B&W minstrels. (No patronisation intended white guys who dressed as black people for stage shows when rascism was socially acceptable)
While they are eating cereal they are listening to breakfast radio, BBC or some crap, there is an interview with the British foreign secretary who is ranting about minstrels not being welcome in the country. The minstrels are saddened by this and switch the radio over to FM where by coincidence they are playing the song 'Swanee' (a song used in some old minstrel performances) Naturally this makes the minstrels happy and they start miming and dancing around to the song.
The boys from Little Britain seem to like the minstrel sketches probably a little in joke with the League of Gentlemen lads.

Yeah they are amazing.My fave is when i think is it andy that dumps the whellchair over to make lou's girlfriend look bad its a total crack up.Its the only thing on tv that just makes you just shake your head in disbelief.When is the new series coming ?
