Extracts from the Port Adelaide web site:
Brogan & Hall elevated to senior list

Saturday 6/10/2001

Mark Williams announced that rookie-listed duo Dean Brogan and Chris Hall would become permanent fixtures on the club’s senior playing list next year.
The elevation of these two players from the rookie list means Port Adelaide must now delist a minimum of five players from last year’s squad.

Opinions please on the Hall promotion and the 5 to be delisted.

I am happy with the promotion.
My 5 would be:
Bond
Steinberner
Harwood
Lyle
Bishop

The times ive seen Chris Hall play i have been very impressed. His statistics have been excellent as well. What about Ben Hollands - is he being kept on the list too??? Id rather Hollands in front of Hall tho.

Hall is HUGE for his size....and i dont mean fat/chubby huge...i mean he is one of the muscliest blokes ive seen.

The 5 i would delist:
Lyle - no good, wont be a regular
Steinberner - no good, wont be a regular
Kouloriotis - he isnt up to SANFL standard let alone AFL standard - he is way behind the 8 ball
Darren Mead (hopefully retirement) - but he is too slow nowadays
Shane Bond - i cant see him getting back in the side again

Others i would consider dropping - harwood, paxman, lockwood.

I wouldnt drop Bishop just yet - he is the quickest tall we have, and he is an experienced tall defender - something we dont have many of....he is the perfect backup - and will probably play most of next year with Packo out.

I would be close to saying Morgan and M Stevens are very close to being axed...but whenever i see Michael Stevens play he really impresses....he is too small for AFL however. Morgan just seems injury prone but would make the grade if he can stay fit.

Hollands should also be put on the main list for next year and if so i guess 6 face the axe.
I think Lyle, Bond And Stenchberger are obvious.
Then i think that it will be out of Harwood, D Murray, Poulton And M Stevens, if they are not traded that is.
I would say that Koulouriotis and Morgan would get another year. Cassisi and Allan Murray will also stay longer.
Bishop and Lockwood will probably also stay although either could be traded.

As good as our list is, the draft keeps it alive, and the following players can probably be replaced with as good, better or at least more effective players through the draft this year.

Shane Bond - Just too injury prone
Mark Harwood - Seems lost at AFL level.
Bowen Lockwood - Injuries
Brayden Lyle - Too slow with disposal..it was really obvious this year, we need fast thinking & acting midfielders.
Adam Morgan - Probably borderline...may not go
Jared Poulton - Great to lift the team in a tough game, but his disposal & accountability probably aren't there for AFL level. He always plays well at the SCG.
Nathan Steinberner - One-dimensional. While Ronnie Burns is a good player to negate, when he's the only player you negate, its a problem.
Michael Stevens - Hasn't showed enough....trade preferable, but probably delist.

Harwood & Lockwood would cut down our backups to Tredrea & Cornes a lot, but really, if we actually draft some tall forwards for a change, it'll be OK :)

Haven't seen much of Hall. I am surprised to see that Ben Hollands hasn't been promoted to the senior list as yet. I think Port could do worse than to pick him up, or even a Tony Brown. Probably go for one or the other, not likely both. My opinion, that's all.
Any decent young Magpies worth picking up, ala Fiora and Didak of previous years? How is McDowall? I think that's his name. I saw him play a blinder mid-season when I was back in Adelaide for the week. Anyone agree or are there others?

If they promote Hollands, thats one more player on the current list that they have to delist....and risk either pissing off, or having them drafted to another club, if they want them back. ie. Jared Poulton.

Or they can let Ben Holland go into the draft, keep Poulton on their list, and then have Ben Hollands as a safety pickup at #79 if no-one better is still available.

Hollands is, what, 22? Not going to go too early, if he does at all.

Mcdowall is ok....im not sure if he is quite AFL standard tho. He is a lot like Scott Hahn.
A few that may get picked up: Joel Tessman, Matthew Lokan, James Wilson, David Green, Corey Ahchee, Adrian Brady, Brett Ebert, Jared Illet, Shane Holmes, Carl Lohde, Chris Robertson
they all could be picekd up in the draft but i doubt most of them will be.

Tessman & Burgoyne could be good...could be pretty late picks too. Lohde I also like.

McDowall is too short for AFL, I reckon

I agree with Macca that McDowall is a lot like Scotty Hahn (not that that is a bad thing!) but whether they are AFL standard is doubtful. Both hard at it and can find the goals.
I think the following players may get picked up (in order):
Wilson - good player, similar to Michael, big body ready to play AFl (probably 35-50).
Illet - played some decent games, looks a likely type (40+)
Lohde - haven't seen much of but from various sources is a pretty handy player (50+)
Lokan - don't be suprised if he gets drafted, has a good body and seems to know his way around the footy field (50+)
Ebert - may get picked up early on his genes alone, but suspect later.
Achee - i think would be worth the investment, always puts in an effort and i really haven't seen him play a bad game (maybe last round 2000 against Richo). Pretty consistent, tallish, quick, i thought half way through last year he would go top 20, but didn't. I'd try him.
I don't think Holmes, Robertson (injury prone and not really that good) or Green (similar to Northeast, good trier but lacks skills) will get drafted.
All in all there isn't really a stand out like Didak or Fiora this year.
