View Full Version : Roo's mandatory breaks!

Recently I have become increasingly worried about our beloved captain! It seems that his mandatory breaks are so predictable that other teams will be able to work around his breaks to make cracks in our midfield! Does he have some sort of physical issue with not being able to run out a full match? Are we preserving him because of his age? Is he still carrying the flu? What the hell is wrong with him?

I think he is a great footy player, but i think it is about time the cause of his mandatory breaks are looked at a bit more closely!!!

Its about player management .. and like McLeod hiding in the backline I would hope its a master stroke come finals eg at the 9 minute mark Roos tagger starts to relax knowing he is going off.... and he stays on  takes him a minute to collect himself again

His "mandatory breaks" have been going on for a few years.
I think its all about player management as the roo has been a tough campaigner since 93.
On teams factoring in his breaks it may depend on how Craig stuctures the midfield when the roo goes off.
As if you put Thompson in when the roo goes off we actually have positives as Thompson can more than hold his own and he gets valuble responsibility for a still inexperienced player.

on the weekend I was looking for roo's breaks to come earlier - he was annoying me just a tad with his lack of manning up. A bit harsh, I know, but he has over the past couple of years been notorious for not manning up or chasing as hard as he could.

Its more about keeping him going for the years to come. Predicable yes necessary yes.

It's his call when he comes off anyway.

One of his tackles on the weekend was a real beauty though :D

Spot on and he is not the only crow midfielder who fails to play defence when needed

I just think that it would be more beneficial to the team if instead of going off for his break at say the 13-16 min mark of the qtr, that he was moved off the ball and into a forward pocket or something! I see him as being an integral player in the team, providing the younger players with guidence and support! Sure, he doesn't need to play out the whole game, but it would be nicer to see him on the field longer than he currently is! :)

I noticed for the first time at the weekend end started on the half back line at at least 4 centre bounces on his own, then went through the pack on his own to take the loose or hand ball. A new ploy to get rid of the tagger perhaps. Worked a couple of times so might be a new move.

McLeod was doing a similar trick but his was much funnier to watch. A goal had been kicked and macca lined up at chb position on his own. When the boundary umps caught up to where he was macca did a sprint through the middle to the opposite side of the square. By the time his opponent spotted him he had to run around the outside of the square. When the opponent got to the opposite wing, macca then ran around to the other win. It was quite amusing to watch the ducks and drakes being played. The funniest part though was to see that when the ball was bounced and macca had no opponent he just wandering into the square!

meh browlow meadlists get tagged they don't do the tagging

I would be 100% sure that NC would want roo to be in the best posible position that Roo think at that moment, Roo will 99.9% of the time do more damage if he gets the ball than his opposite number. therefore Roo doing as he pleases > than Roo always looking around for his player

Yeah, chuckled watching that too, along with the Roo stuff. Good to see the coaching staff trying some ploys to shake tags.
