View Full Version : Greatest Movies To Watch Stoned.
Watching a good movie off your brain is a remarkable expierience. Just thought id share some of my faves.
Not that im advocating drug use of course...
Pink Floyd: The Wall
The animated sequences blow my head off every time. Particuarly the 'Goodbye Blue Sky' sequence...
Apocalypse Now
A little too long if you wanna remain conscious till the end, but the mighty Air Cav sequence is a particular fave.
2001: A Space Odyssey
'My god its full of stars'. The original stoner classic.
Eraserhead
Scares the hell out of you straight. So many David Lynch films could of made this list.
Evil Dead
Tripped me right out that one... ;)
Wicked City
Animated Japanese perversity.
The Matrix
Of course im referring to the original you fools.
The Exorcist: Directors Cut
Gotta love subliminal flash imagery.
The Blair Witch Project
Feel free to laugh but i get creeped out by it.
So what movies have you watched off your nut and made you go to your mate 'geez thats trippy man'...

Not that I'm advocating the use of the stuff either but:
Any of the original Star Wars Films
Any of the Lord of the Rings Films
Dazed and Confused (so as to empathise with the characters)
Dune
Suspiria (in fact any Dario Argento film)

Yeah Dune is a 'strange' movie too. That bit with that Baron Harkonen dude where he rips that plug thing from that kid and he bleeds to death.
Whilst not a movie - I do remember watching Prince`s "Sign of the times" film clip on rage one night and being enthralled.
Sat thru "Big trouble in little China" absolutely smashed at the Cinema one nite.

Any horror movies are good to watch off your rocker, one that always got me was event horizon for some reason, when straight its not to bad but stoned ******** its freaky stuff. Texas Chainsaw Massacre (the remake) also gets me going as well

beat me to it ... also A Nightmare on Elm St.
not a horror movie, in fact a pretty lame movie, but What Dreams May Come is pretty interesting when you are stoned.
I stopped watching movies stoned b/c usually i had to re watch the movie straight to remember any of it.
Waste of time if you ask me.

Yes Yes Yes and Yes. All those would be the first 4 I would think of. Only one's I can offer off the top of my cloudy mind would be;
The Who's Tommy,
A Clockwork Orange,
The Salton Sea,
Fight Club,
Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas
and Super Troopers.

I really expected this thread to be started by Rick James, not the Big Brother intellect UNIT himself.
Other goodies include Requiem For A Dream (that movie is insane enough when your straight let alone stoned off your nut), Bringing Out The Dead by Martin Scorsese, if you wanna get really paranoid stoned then you cant go past JFK, and also the original Alien.
You really want to bring on a acid flash back or trip out badly - Fear and Loathing in Las Vagas. I had to leave the room as it brought on flashbacks.

Trainspotting. Being stoned is a requirement to sit through it
I've never been stoned and dont plan to be but am curious to know if anyone has seen Fear and loathing in las vegas in such a state?

I watched The Wheel of Fortune on acid once. I remember seeing Burgo making all sorts of sly sexual inuendos to Adrianna Xenides by mouth and through body language. I remember thinking, "F***ing hell, this Burgo guy is a sleaze! I can't believe I've never noticed it before. He's blatant the dirty ****."
Then I watched a few weeks later and thought, "That was some fine acid. Mighty fine."
The Trip................starring Peter Fonda
complete mindbender.

Well so far 3 people have mentioned it, so it's a fairly good assumption that at least 3 have. Fear and Loathing was made for acid, helps that the author spent most of his life trippin too. And what a glorious life it must have been
The first three Hellraiser films are also quite the spectacle after a few choice ones.

Watched the final destinations movies last nite while of my rocker, not a horror but ******** makes your stomach turn, very graphical and the thing that freaked me out the most is the fact that some of the ******** that happened in the movie is possible to happen in real life. Good stuff.

Very sophisticated stoners on BF! No Cheech & Chong
I remember enjoying some of the animated movies such as Aladin and The Loin King.
Actually I don't really remember them that well, so now I am able to watch just about any ovie from the last 15 years as though it was my first viewing :)

Blue Velvet - Yes, all of Lynch's other films are trash IMO, especially the way he butchered Dune

Oh god that's brilliant!!
Back on topic though, Microcosmos was out there...big old insects doing their thing. Saw Mulholland Drive ripped and just shook my head a lot.
Why DON'T Cheech & Chong get a mention?
"Call that a joint? that's a ********in toothpick"
"Theeees eeez good sheeeet man, what eez it?"
"Maui Wowie and Doberman"

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas - certainly.

I downloaded and watched Requiem for a Dream last night on the basis of it's nominations in this thread.
Such a sad miserable tale, but one I thought that could, and perhaps should, be studied in early high school.
Alot of films based around drug use usually have the affect of making me wanting to go out and get smashed, or long for the old days when Acid was beautiful and didnt mess with my head.
This is one of the few films that did not make me want too, unlike Fear and Loathing which made me wish I was again young and naive enough to get away with copious amounts of Acid.

I watched it in on my laptop in bed and it finished about 1am, The Witching Hour.
I was left feeling a sense of loss, sorrow, dissapointment and anger.
Anger at the people who make, sell and distribute the drugs, the people at the top of the tree.
Frustration at societies desire for the quick chemical fix through their doctors, anger at the entire human way of life.
That anger was equally served with a healthy dose of sadness and disappointment. I feel the movie was slightly exxagerated as I took it they were all speed users, or meth as it's known in the States.
But on the other hand I understand that drugs are as old as prostitution and warfare and will forever be part of human's lives. That will never change.

I remember enjoying some of the animated movies such as Aladin and The Loin King.I saw Aladdin in the cinemas with a mate absolutely whacked off our tits. There were a Mum and her kids sitting in the row in front of us and behind us and for the first fifteen minutes we laughed so hard I fell out of my seat and nearly choked on a mouthful of chocolate.
As for other movies:
Natural Born Killers- a complete head f**k.
Apocalypse Now
Withnail and I
Wizard of Oz (with Dark Side of the Moon)

The first time I did it I was with a mate in Brisbane. I laughed non-stop for hours, helped a Wilderness Society Koala probably raise about $20 (two wired guys chasing people down the street telling them they're going to give money to the big bear will do that), took part in a public art display, we got the phone numbers of four separate women just off the street (and met up with them all over the next week), played the worst game of pool ever, took over a video jukebox for nearly an hour and wierded out a lot of people on the CityCat.
Unfortunately I can't do it anymore. My brain disagrees with it.

Yep. Last time I had Acid (I miss you) I tripped by myself in my room with my guitar. About 3am I decided this is how I want to spend everyday for the rest of my life, and as I was living with my mum at the time, I decided to wake her up and fess up and spill the beans and inform her of this decision.
I got to her door, and something stopped me, something told me it was a bad idea to tell my mum I wished to spnd everyday of the rest of my life on LSD.
I went back to my room and played guitar for about 6 hours, and I never tripped again.
Ever since Ive always wanted too, had the opportunity too, but felt deep inside that if I DO then Im crossing a line that I cant come back from.
I honestly miss acid like you miss your favorite long lost lover, but like you, my brain just cant afford the expenditure anymore. :(
