Just read that there is a trade for Bizzell that is just about complete.

We (Melbourne) get Bizzell and pick 41 for Brent Grgic and pick 17!! What a laugh..... if this trade goes thru, i hope u have fun with Gerj. U will soon learn it's fun to take out your frustration on him!! :D :D

lol, he can't be worse that gerge! at least bizzle has a few good games... i don't think i've seen gerge have a good one since... um... i'll get one... hang on a sec... ok, never! HE IS A **** PLAYER!!! his average a match is 1 handball - which is normally to the opposition. i kinda feel sorry for ya, although i'd like to get bizzle.
i for one hope the trade happens!

GO DEES!!!

It is Bizzell, not Bizzle. It's good to see the education system working.

Oh coz they teach us how to spell Bizzell at school do they?

Look if you get a few good games out of Grgic (and by good i mean him not handballing to the opposition and holding down a mark given to him 15m back) than you did better than we ever have.
Bizzell has potential and so does Grgic... the only difference is that Bizzell has shown his potential and Grgic is yet to do so!

True..........but it's not that simple, it wasn't just a straight trade: Bizzell for Grgic.

The final deal was:

Geelong gives: Clint Bizzell, #56

Melbourne gives: Brent Grgic, #17, #41

So even if Bizzell turns out to be a better player than Grgic, the players Geelong pick up with the draft picks may well tip the deal the Cats' way. And given the quality of the field in the draft, it wouldn't surprise me if that was the case two or three years down the track.

But who knows? Picking the right 17 or 18 year olds in the draft is a bit of a gamble. We won't know for quite a while who did better from that deal.

Thats true because sometimes champion players are picked at very late stage of the draft (Hird was apperantly #90 or so and Woewodin was never picked.... only in the Rookie trade did he finally get a chance). In the end of 1999 Melbourne had pretty bad draft picks due to salary cap breaches and look who we picked up.... Green, Bruce, Whelan and Wheatly...... all champions who played a fair few games for us! :)
On the other hand we picked Travis Johstone at no.1 a few years before and he has not done half the job Whelan or Green have, and same with Grgic......... and look where he ended! :D

How can you call Green,Wheatley,Whelan & Bruce 'Champions' ? .There not even consistent players.

Whelan is consistant, but has had a bad run with injuries
Green is a champion and will be a legend one day, he has so much skill to him its amazing
Brucey and Wheatley may not be as good, but never the less they are very valuable players.
By champions i didn't mean Norm Smith Medalist or Brownlow Medalists, i meant valuable first and second year players who were a big part in our run to the grand final last year (should i remind you of the final we played against Carlton last year?).
Anyways the point was that sometimes first round draft picks can turn out to be total duds (hence Grgic) and later picks can really come in handy (hence Green and Whelan etc...).

If Melbourne supporters are happy regarding players of that calibre as "champions", then it's no wonder they haven't won a premiership for nearly 40 years.

Olmy trust me it is not the opnion of all supporters. The players mentioned Green, bruce Whelan etal. have the potential to become champions, but i see them more as up and comers. but yeah thats just me. :)

They are up and comers, but theyre up and comers that have shown far more potential than most up and comers and so far look the goods. Theyre not champions, yet, but Green and Whelan especially have shown glimpses that they can be future stars. 65 goals in a couple of seasons from a first year player that has played most of his football off the bench isnt too bad. We havent seen as much of Whelan because he has been injured quite a bit, but in the few games hes played he's shown maturity and proved hes got a lot to offer.

You have to remember also that Johstone is only 22 and if anyone ever doubted his potential they can take a look at the last half of the Rd 22 match agaisnt the Bulldogs. Wheatley is the spitting image of Dustin Fletcher when he first started out and Broadbridge also looks impressive.

They all look promising, but we won't be happy until they've delivered the goods and we have ourselves a premiership.
