RDFL Players

Can anyone tell me of any RDFL players that could possibly make the grade in other leagues.
Not looking for people to bag the league, im sure alot of people in here realise that the standard currently is not up to the mark, but surely there are people who would have seen or know of some footballers in the comp who they rate as possibles for other stronger comps...

I dont think the standard is as bad as is made out.It isn't as good as the other local leagues like the BFL and EDFL but the top 4 sides would still be very competitive in the BFL.The BFL drops away massively after the top 4 and Romsey,Diggers,Riddell and perhaps Lancefield would all push for a top 6 spot in the BFL IMO.The standard is steadily improving and while it probably wont get back to that standard it was at pre the departure of Sunbury,Melton,Melton South,Darley,Gisborne and the like it will still be a pretty good standard.Can name a few other comps that side of the city that are in worse shape.

I would say of the top 4 or 5 sides in the RDFL there would be atleast half the senior players who have the ability to make it at a higher level provided they worked hard enough.I know alot of guys who play in that competition who have come from a higher level.

Two Kilmore players I've seen James Wright and Matty Robertson could certainly cut it at a higher level, Wright has returned to Perth with his family, Robertson services already being chased by many clubs for next year.

Having previously covered the RDFL and HDFL via a media gig for 4 years, I believe Heathcote League football is ahead of Riddell, in the way of the pace of the game, and the depth of senior sides.
Would be fair to say the in regards to RDFL's top clubs of recent years, their bottom 5-6 players at times wouldn't stack up against sides like Colbinabbin, Lockington, Mounts and the Broadford sides of 2000-2004.

Having said that, the bar has been raised some in 2005, and hopefully in another season or two, the RDFL can regain some of the reputation it onced prided itself on. Wallan's move whilst long term will work in the DVFL, the Magpies would be there abouts only in the RDFL.

I always keep a close eye on Kilmore, and after not getting the club off the ground until late February and announcing a coach (Terry Ahearn) after that, the Blues just had to get thru 2005, and now have set their sights on 2006. Ahearn has been re-appointed, and recruiting plans are well underway.

Its a terrible league.

Lee James from Riddle would be the best player in the league by the length of Flemington straight, he would be a gun in any league he played in.

Apart from Leigh there would only be a handfull of players who could cut it at decent country and metro leagues, Cole Laurie and Ben Nettlebeck spring to mind.

I currently play in the RDFL and I have played in the WRFL (previously FDFL) and I can tell you that the standard in the WRFL is way better. Riddell and Diggers both have quality seniour sides. Diggers doesn't have many quality players, but it is a quality team who strives on hard work.

Romsey-Bryden Morgan,Mark Strack,Commerford,Hilderbrand and all 3 Carrolls could play elsewhere.Meldrum is as good a player you will find in most leagues to.

Riddell-James is a bit one dimensional but could easily play as a forward pocket half forward flanker in most leagues.Allen is a gun and has been slaying them.

Lancefield-Talbot and Choate are very good.

Almost all of the players in the Riddlle side come from Sunbury and couldnt get a game in the seniors bar Lee James. Both Diggers and Riddle are crap and wouldnt beat a GV 3rds side.

Some interesting finals coming up this week, with Riddell having the week off, they will get a good look at Romsey and Diggers... Romsey knocked Diggers out last year quite comfortably.. Will actually be a good game, with Diggers considerably a different side this year with Laurie, Heritage and Jose as well as the heart of the side Sims in good form.
Romsey are a strong combo though, Diggers will have some work cutting out Meldrum and Connellan, usually one or the other does some serious damage.
Think the Lancefield vs Centrals game will be a cracker as well. Corey Battye is in some good form for Centrals, and Leigh Harrison is playing some great footy for Lancefield, fair grab for his size.

Lancefield were knocked out today by Centrals apparently.

Diggers smashed Romsey and will play Riddell to get into the granny.Diggers probably should have won by 15 plus goals for the amount of ball they had.Just monstered Romsey for the contested ball.Apparently they will lose 6 players next week for the Riddel game so it will test there depth.Riddell should get up.

Watched Diggers play Riddell both times this season and I think Riddell can be intimidated by the physical presence of some of the Diggers players.Diggers are not a big side but they work harder than the other sides in the competition and Romsey were clearly taking a backward step up at Kilmore.Will be a facsinating contest with Gadsden being the key IMO.James has been well held both times this year but Gadsden has pure size which Diggers just dont have.Diggers losing so many players will be good for the reserves at your club wont it?

Sims is a classy ball user but I wouldn't say he is a hang out.When its his turn he is as hard as anyone from what I have seen.Rooza was sensational early in the year but has had injuries.From all reports the B&F will be fought out between Heritage,Sims,Green(best CHB this year IMO) and Dan Reilly.

Would think Allan would win Riddells.Who would win Sunburys?

Lancefield were a chance if they got past Centrals but it was a bad match up for them.Centrals are a big side and the small Diggers Rest ground was never going to suit Lancefield.

Anyone know who won the Bowen and Buffalo's last night?The thing about Diggers is that they have had guys out all year and are now up to 13 straight wins.Cole Laurie is a bit of a sleeping giant and hasn't been able to string together any footy by the sounds of it but was pretty dangerous last week.Heritage,Ruane,Marchewka,Walker,Grey and a couple of others have all missed footy at times this season.Grey I believe is injured this week as well now.I think Lancefield had a massive injury list all season as well.Just could not get there best 22 on the park at any stage.Romsey missed Commerford for most of the year to.

Those B&F predictions would be prety close.Choate would be a chance at Lancefield along with Talbot although I have no idea how much footy they have played.Jay Allen,James and Belleville will fight out Riddells and Robbo would be a sure thing at Kilmore.Still think 'Bulldog' Strack will win Romseys as he was the only player named in the league team of the year from memory.Josh Armstrong will go close for Centrals as he is a Geddes love child.I saw an 18 year old kick 6 on him in a quarter and still get named in the best.He was named full back of the year.If you haven't seen it yet there wasn't any big suprises.Niki on a wing for you guys and loads of Diggers,Romsey and Riddell players in it.Heritage on the bench was a bit of a suprise for mine.Has been the dominant centreman all year.

Did you see Diggers own version of Bulldog on the weekend?Little Damian Janner was dominant at half back and seems fearless.He actually played on Bulldog earlier in the year when I watched them and was beaten but he is improving rapidly.Bulldog is better in defence than in the guts IMO.Just gets his marking going playing down back.

I played cricket against Mcinerny (call him grubby yeah?).I heard some story about his brother getting taken out at the first bounce of the season by an ex team mate.It was his first year at the club wasn't it?Do you have any other potential recruits for next season?Most clubs usually have a couple of rumours flying around at this time of year.

Chris Caresellos probably won't win the B&F at Rockbank because he missed a few games and was getting back from his knee reco from last round 2004. Michael Taylor will probably get the nod. Carasellos is a player who would definetly be able to play in a higher league. Last year was only his 2nd year of football and made the League team. He would push for the Bowen Medal in a good team.

I went to Rockbank's B&F count last night, but to be honest I can't remember who ended up winning the seniours' B&F medal. Being an U18s player myself, I had most of my attention on our count. Jason Wellfare won it for the 18s with a massive 118 votes - more than double the amount of votes the second placed Brett Henry polled.

Brendan Newitt and Jason Wellfare were the favourites, and Newie (Newitt) only ended up with 20 votes - an absolute farce.

I know Michael Taylor, Chris Carraselos and Scott Matthews polled very well for our seniours. I am guessing they were all top three.

Chris Carassellos won the Rockbank B&F on 99 by 3 votes to Scott Matthews on 96. Don't know the official other placings but Scott O'Donnell and Michael Taylor were close

I knew all along you'd get top five. But Newie not even coming top ten is beyond a joke. I polled in games I definitely shouldn't have, and didn't poll in games that I definitely should have. Some of the votes were stupid, as you probably figured out when you didn't poll when you expected to.

Haha good to see the Rockbank boys posting on BF. Although x_box_x i thought all these times on the Bulldogs board i was dealing with some big tough guy, not a panzy little girl who plays under 18s in the worst comp in Australia.

I must say though, how good is Michael Allen??? I thought if Riddell were to win it would all come down to Jamesy... As good as he is going, without Allen firing they may have some problems.... The kid can play, and as good a kick for goal as I have seen.

Allen had the same opponent most of the day and was well on top of him.Not sure what the thinking was there from Diggers.I think once the game was gone they thought they might as well give the guy who was playing on him some experience.

The Reserves game was much the same as the Senior game, Diggers came to play, we didnt, deserved everything we got that day... No excuses for that performance.
