ive seen a fair bit of the goose over the last ten years and if he isnt one of the greatest country FF's ive seen then i know nothing about footy.
has been an inspration in a quality league with his strong marking, dead eye kicking and all round leadership. just a pity hes done it at mornington.

where did he play prior to being 27 and was he any good at that club/s, how many goals/games/premierships did he get?

I think he was on North's under 19 list?
He played for geelong when the likes of Ablett (snr) and Brownless were playing, so struggled to push into the senior team as a key forward. I think from memory, just when he was about to make seniors he was suspended and missed his chance...

I remmber him playing in an interleague game versus the GV in 99 at Deakin Reserve. GV were favorites to take the game but the Goose stood up to kick around 8 goals to sink the GV almost single handedly. It was great to watch. He was a freak that day.

He had a stint at Mornington before he went to Geelong. After Geelong he went to a Eastern District club and then to Frankston.
Absolutely. One of the best cases of a top quality local footballer who never cracked it.
I have little doubt he's the best ever because of his long-standing, consistent performance. To be able to kick 20 goals at 37 in a senior MPNFL game is outrageous.
I have no doubt he'll have plenty of club officials tugging his sleeve in March/April 2006 too!!
Wonder why he didn't get a look-in at another AFL club when he couldn't break through at Geelong. Would've been mid 20's at that stage and I'm sure a couple of the weaker sides from the early to mid 90's could've done with his services.

He probably did nothing at Geelong that warrant any AFL club to pick him up.
I believe Bendigo League legend Ron Best booted 1624 goals in 14 seasons, and average of 116 a year.

The Goose is an out and out freak. I saw him battle for three quarters with Peter Freeman (YCW) one day without looking like getting a kick. In the final quarter he kicked 6 and won the game.
For the past 10 years he hasn't been able to run, jump or kick, and yet he still kicks tons at will.
Well done Goose!

Hasn't be just set the comp alight at Berwick! NOT!!!
I'm pretty sure he won the VFL reserves goalkicking one year, though I may just be imagining things...

Michael Timms from Mid South East (SA) would give him a run for his money. Don't know his actual stats, but he's kicked a sh**load of goals and at his best was virtually unstoppable.

No questioning Goosey is/was an absolute legend at local level.
He really did struggle though at VFA level when he played at Frankston. From memory he played there for about 3 years from about 92-94 and was in and out of the Senior side. Tended to play from behind a lot and was not overly quick.
Having said that, hats off to him for a fine career.
Didn't Goosey play in the Ted Whitten game this year.
As for Michael Timms he was a gun.
Jason Mifsud is another country footballer who has regularly kicked 150+ goals in a season, he plays in the Mininera league not sure who for though.

as a full back,i'm glad as hell this bloke didnt decide to head to Sydney and play...but i'll mention a fella named Maurice Goolagong(nephew of Evonne Goolagong-Cawley)who played in the Black Diamond FL(Newcastle-Central Coast NSW)he has kicked 100 each year since 2000,had his worst year for Terrigal Avoca this year kicking a lazy 80 odd.. about 700 goals in 5 years is a decent effort, but this bloke is short as,very soild, but like lightning!but cant hold a candle to these blokes.

yeah goosey was in the EJ game and dominated! bit stiff not to get the BOG for the game, kicked 5 i think it was. the ground was loving him. He wants to try and get a gig in the AFL as an assistant coach of some sort, so good luck to the kid! ;)
I rated Matthew Chilcott as a full-forward.
He's a journeyman though and burnt a few clubs along the way.
Apparently he's a gardener by occupation. He was at North Albury earlier in his career. That's the word at Barooga anyway

I think you will find our Matthew is in real estate out of Shepparton. Chillcot Real Estate ring any bells?
Yes, Matty has burnt a few clubs in his time.
Maybe that wouldn't be a bad Thread to start up.
"Burnem Burnem - the Journeyman of country footy."
John MacNamarra would have to lead the charge, closely followed by Brendan Heirh.
Chilcott was a mad man at North Albury. Ben Jones, Wes George, Mark Wegener and Adrian Thornton were as well. They were fair dinkum morons who used to sleep on the embankment at Bunton Park.
Dangerous Dean Lupson was at the club at the same time.
Some of the dumbest blokes who could ever meet.

Mifsud hasn't played for Caramut (Mininera) since the Mid 90's. he did kick 200+ one year. Freak
John Hotker from Minyip (later Minyip/Murtoa) kicked 1000+ goals in his time in the Wimmera.F.L. Like Goosey nothing flash, just canny ability to read the flight of the ball, outmark three blokes, and rarely missed.

An aboriginal player in the SGL here in SA kicked 25 on the weekend to take his tally for the season to 102. I believe he has kicked over ton a few times now.

Maybe the over the last 10 years, but Loveless(when fit and not trying to dodge Centerlink) would have to rate up there as one of the greats.
