Do we have anyone here from the Goulburn Valley area and support the GVFL or another local league ?.
I follow Tatura in the Goulburn Valley Football League and Murchison in the Kyabram Disrict Football League, and it would be good to hear from any local footy followers in the goulburn valley region.

I believe Lancaster Wombats were taking all before them in the KDFL this year.

Who won the GVFL grand final???? I didnt hear (and forgot to buy the Melb paper!)
I'm an ex Echuca chick - always keep an eye on the ladder and who's doing what.
i_luv_westcoast - my dad actually grew up in Lancaster many years ago!

Thanks for the replies, I really appreciate it and i'll post more local footy stuff here for next year, but to answer some of your questions.
I-Luv-Westcoast, Lancaster won the flag this year in the KDFL from Gavin Exell's (ex Geelong) Stanhope by 5 goals.
Kyabram had a shocker this year and it was in great danger of folding because of massive debt, but the board decided to play as an amateur club until the debts were paid, not suprisingly a lot of players left and they were forced to play a lot of kids, they were competitive for most of the year and won 4 games and drew 1.
Coxon, Shepp won all football and 2 netball grades last year, but thier seniors choked and lost in the semi final, and Shepp United didn't make the finals this year and thier reserves and under 18's lost to Shepp Swans (Lemnos) and Shepparton.
And Sly77, Echuca never looked like getting beaten for the flag this year under ex St Kilda coach Kenny Sheldon (who's coached them for a few years now), and with ex North Melbourne star, Craig Sholl, they look good for next year as well, Craig Sholl has a business in town and Echuca has a lot of young talent.

WOOHOO!
Thanks Wayde! It's amazing the boost an ex AFL coach and newly retired player can give a side (Tatura did it for long enough - hang on it was Tat wasnt it - memory's going in my old age!!!!!)
Craig has a houseboat business in Echuca doesnt he (or was that his parents - cant remember????)
Its always bewildered me why the Echuca area doesnt produce more AFL players - Michael Braun is the only one to have played seniors footy for years. Most of the young guys from that area play footy - perhaps it has just been a lack of good coaching during the teen years?
Another qn - what league did Lockington/Bamawm end up in - I heard they wanted to join the Heathcote league???? How'd their year end up?

Lock-Bam entered the Heathcote DFL this year, and thrashed everybody for a while, eventually losing a couple of matches later on. They finished about 2nd, and then went out in straight sets, in the finals.

Sly77 your dad must be a great man, if he grew up in Lancaster that is :) I havn't been there for 10 years or more now. Loved it when I was there, and Kyabram was a great town to. Totally different world to where I am now, a coastal city close to Perth. Hey Wayde where abouts do you live? What's Merrigum like these days?

Yeah, Tat did have Paul Hawke coaching the doggies, and had Mickey Gayfer and Brian Leys, and guite a few other blokes that played in the VFL/AFL, Paul Hawke's coaching Shepparton Swans this year and the rest of them have left, but I can't complain, they won tow flags (1995 and 1998) and Tat's got a good future with local talent.
I think Craig Sholl runs a successful houseboat business with his brother, so it's fair to assume that he'll be at Echuca for a while as well as Kenny Sheldon, who's got his own business in town.
I live near the Dhurringile Prison, half way between Tatura and Murchison, and Merrigum still going strong, the butter factory's still there as well as the footy/netball club, and its really become a place for those to retire and settle back in a nice little town.

One of my cousins plays for Sheppaton United in the under 18's. His side got beaten in the Grand Final.
