South Barwon go into the Geelong league grand final after a convincing win over North Shore...

The Seagulls now play Newtown and Chilwell in the preliminary final...

The Eagles defeated St.Joey's today, and make it to the last three for the first time since 1991.

Newcomb has claimed its first Bellarine league title since 1988 (Larry Donohue was coach and they were known as the Dinosaurs) and fifth in their 30 year history with a win over Torquay on Saturday.

The Power nearly fell over a few years back.

Well done also to Barwon Heads. The Seagulls won their first ever 3rd 18 flag in 35 years of competition with a surprise two point win over Torquay.

Thomson will meet Corio in the Geelong and District Grand Final after defeating Werribee Centrals in the preliminary.

Just on Barwon Heads, was one of the best football wins I have ever seen. Playing against Torquay the top side, Barwon Heads who finished third were 24 points down at the 8 minute mark of the last quarter with the quarters being 18 minutes long. They had only kicked 4 goals for the day but managed to hit the front with about 2 minutes left and held on for a 2 point win

Not bad cosnidering they also lost the qualifying final and had to go the long way home...

The footy Gods have paid back Torquay for "stealing" the 1992 3rds flag from Drysdale...I dislike Drysdale immensely, but in 1992, they were robbed. A player was pinged for time-wasting in the Torquay goal square with 3 seconds remaining. That countdown clock on the scoreboard proved to be their undoing. Is it still like that Pepi...

Thomson smashed Centrals by 99 ponits. I think they will beat Corio who have only played the one game during the finals.

One man...Ricky O'Toole...stop him, Tigers are premiers. ROT is a gun...I remember him on debut as a 15 yeard-old for St.Joey's back in the early 90's...what a champion...

couldn't agree more. Ricky is an absolute star. His cousin is pretty handy when he is on song as well.

What happened to centrals on the weekend. I thought they would have been favourites to go through to the grandfinal.

i reckon it will be a great game, Corio looking to win after losing last year, and Thomson have not won a granny for a few years, both teams desparate to win. Might even go for a look see. Crap ground to watch footy at though. Should go back to the Western Oval.

Yep, why St.Albans?...it's never made sense to me...when was the last time Centrals or Bannockburn didn't play in the decider? I'm guessing 1996...but that could be wrong...

The actual ground is very good, good surface, good size, apart form that, crap venue. Used to be at West Oval before then. Should go back there.

Werribee and Bannockburn played in the big one against each other from
1997 to 2001. 1997 being the first time the GDFL had used St.Alban's reserve as the grand final venue.

Bannockburn won back to back in 97/98. Werribee won the next three in a row 99,2000 & 2001.

The last 3 grandfinals: 2002: Nth Geelong bt Corio
2003: Bannockburn bt Thomson
2004: Werribee Centrals bt Corio (in a replay. the first was drawn).

You will find 2005 will be the last GDFL grandfinal at St.Albans.

Back to West I hope...The GFL don't use it anymore...

Bannockburn also played in the 96 decider (first year of a single division), and were beaten by...Thomson...the Tigers last flag...

At Thomson too. Apparantly they watered the centre?

it would have to be a smaller ground. There has been plenty of complaining about the size of St.Albans. It's far too big.

That's right...I think that was also the first year of the St.Joey's connection at Tigerland...Atchison, MacFarlane et.al.

Didn't realise the 'rubber man' was originally from St.Joes. Is that the MacFarlane who plays at Winchlesea now?
