View Full Version : We have nothing to loose...
And everything to gain from this weeks game.
* Port were lucky to make the finals in the first place.
* Crows are minor premiers, so by many are expected to win.
I am proud of what Port has done o ver the last few weeks, particularly with reagrds to being written off by many.

I would phrase it differently ... there is a Preliminary Final spot on the line, so we have a lot to lose.
However ... expectations on us will be less than those on the Crows ....
It couldn't have worked out any better (from 8th)... all the pressure on the other mob.
Pressure builds diamonds
Both teams have the same to lose
At the start of the year I would have bitten your hand off to be where we are now.
We were the big loser from the weekend but this is teh first Showdown final. Bragging rights are worth a lot.
Its good we can narrow the gap to 11-8! Almost respectable.
I certainly believe we have nothing to lose.
The Crows finished top, we finished 8th, and here we are meeting them in the second round of the finals.
I do take a little confidence knowing we have won our last 4 finals matches we have been involved in.
The Crows will righftully be favourites but this presents a wonderful opportunity for us.

i just think its beautiful that they had KG, Cornsey, Rowey, Mcdermott, and all those pretenders saying how good the crows are, they won 17 games whatever it is and how consistantly they had performed, won 10 in a row etc etc. We won 6 and a half less games and now we meet in the finals - rendering all that useless.... I tell u its just something to behold!! Its cruel but its funny bcoz we have been there..
To be fair I really like Neil Craig and if he coached any other club id give them my backing but i cannot stand the fruit tingles
There's plenty to lose. Just not as much as the crows. I'm sure Choco will do the right thing with the mind games and talk up the Crows and let everyone else remind them about risking being the first straight sets minor premiership exit in 22 years.

Indeed, the way it's turned out, all of the bull******** during the year about Port scraping into the finals, making up numbers blahblahblah... and here we have a home final against a team that we know we can beat!
This is definitely the showdown to end all showdowns... I said it during the last quarter at the Dome on Sunday and I'll be saying it all week. I believe we have everything to lose! Do you think the losers of this game will EVER live it down?
Personally, I don't give a stuff what the win-loss record is. This is the Showdown that matters. (Well, this one and possibly the very first one.) No one will remember the other results in 5 years time!

No IMO the crows have a greater expectation on their backs. 5 weeks ago Ports season was gone, but through some devine intervention and sheer hard work Port scraped into the eight. Crows won the minor premiership and if they go out in straight sets they have far more to lose.
I would phrase it differently ... there is a Preliminary Final spot on the line, so we have a lot to lose.

Exactly a prelim spot and the chance to defend our crown is a LOT to loose if you ask me.

Given both teams are more than capable of beating the Weagles & having a shot at another flag, there is much to win/lose from this weeks game - (equally) for both sides!
Expectations is another thing entirely.

We are playing for the same prize (a Prelim Final berth) and hence have exactly the same to lose.
Being a Showdown, I think the pressure will be huge on both sides, especially after last weekend's results.

AW, I said the exact same thing to me mate Jeaks today. I feel more confident than I did last year. Like I said before saturdays game, I just can not put my dam finger on it........but its just there in my guts, and it will not go away. Its an amazing feeling!!!
Exactly a prelim spot and the chance to defend our crown is a LOT to loose if you ask me.
I feel like screaming LOL, I am just so bloody excited!!

At the start of the year back to back was just a formality so i think you have a lot to lose
Well it's a bit silly saying that you have nothing to lose how about another week of footy ??
Anyway Port will be favorites for this week & rightly so as they have found form at the right time & had a huge win over the Roos last sunday.
You also have a wealth of experienced premiership players up against a reasonably young squad of hopefuls who have performed above expectations of what most of the footy observers predicted before the season began.
Should be a good game though with my honest feeling being that the underdogs shall rise to the occasion & beat the reigning premiers by a lazy 4 goals.
but i cannot stand the fruit tingles
Ah my French croissant i can assure you the feeling is mutual. :)

Unless you're referring to `reigning minor premiers', of course.

1st vs 8th= Us being favourites, come on Noddy accept the tag as warm favourites that you deserve. ;)
Honestly my philosophy is we have finished 8th and any win in the finals is a bonus, such as the Kangaroos win.
However there is alot of epxectation on the Crows, if they lost...........

Means very little Porthos as you should know.
Have a look at the bookies board all the money is on Port Adelaide & within a day or 2 Port will be outright favorite.

In my books we should & deserve to be favorites but that is not where the money is going.
As for expectations well we all have them i no less than anyone else.
& i still believe we will beat yuse. :)
Can't say I agree with nothing to lose. right now us and the camries are in exactly the same position, with exactly the same prize for winning and the same penaltiy for losing.

It's interesting watching the psychology of Crows supporters this week after the increasingly open cockiness of the last month or so.
Still I fully agree with you that we have something to lose. In fact we have an awful lot to lose. More to the point we have an awful lot to gain and it seems that the players now feel that way too.
By a combination of circumstances our team has been rejuvenated and, I think, will kick your pretender arse on Saturday. :)

Geez where the heck is that avatar I've been looking for. Should be in the avatars folder, can't see it in My Pictures, gotta be here somewhere....... :(
Favouritism in a contest is determined by one thing, 'who is expected to win'.
As funny as it seems, considering where the teams finished the minor round, the only team who I have heard any of the experts tip, is Port.
Not one so called expert has tipped the Crows.
I wouldnt mind betting by Saturday, even the bookies have Port as favourites.
BTW, you have equally as much to lose. Season 2005 is on the line for both clubs.

Your racing each other to the bottom but you know what a straight sets exit means ;)

Sorry, but bottom of what?
Straight sets exit means a major disappointment no doubt, but we finish 5th and still exceeded everyones season expectations. Port lose and they finish 5th and failed to live up to yours, major disappointment also, no doubt.
Everyone can put a 'my club' slant on it, but come Saturday, there is no more for us to lose than there is for you lot, no matter how much you wish there was.
Having high expectations is always the Port Adelaide way.
That, what we would consider a disappointment, you would consider a success, is why we will win this weekend.

The one's I was in line with yesterday were brickin' it, it was rather funny. It's amazing how the prospect of a King Choke can changed the mood so quickly. :D The mood of the Port supporters was our typical bullish & confident selves from what I could see. :thumbsu:

yeh yeh.
why didnt you win all 22 games then?
didnt want too I suppose.
Its all about the finals, mate. Bet you wish your boys knew that.

Luckily half the comp has allowed you lot to do the Bradbury then hey, or you guys wouldnt be experiencing what its all about at all.
BTW, I think a few of our lads know all about it, but thaks for your little tip.

Crows should start favourite, after all they are the minor premiers. Our form has been up and down, so it will be interesting to see what happens. I am extremely nervous. Should be a good game though.

John Cahill says that he expects the crows will win.

Standard Port clap trap.
The expectations at the two clubs are no different and you know it.
A Port supporter on here last week was saying if you lost on Sunday they wouldn't have been overly disappointed, as Port did well to make the finals. Hmmmmmmmm...................
Compared to the sea of Crows who claim they will be happy with the result if they lose, that one fan is virtually non-existent.
Does anyone want to be favourite?
Personally I do not really care, it has no bearing on what will take place on the field. If the Crows want us to be favourites than who cares, and vice verca.
I suppose I just find it difficult to comprehend that the crows finish 1st, us 8th, one week of the finals has passed and all of a sudden they are saying we are favourites.
Surely commonsense dictates that the 1st place side are favourites. Surely one week cannot completely change the landscape of 22 rounds of the season.
Of course both sides have expectations and probably expect to win but does the fact we won the premiership last season completely override the whole year to date.

They are bluffing.
They are the favourites and they are worried.
Enjoy their bleating 'cos you are right, it is commonsense & they're simply digging a bigger hole for themselves!
Alternatively they are conceeding that there is something special about the PAFC, especially at finals time.
I reckon they need to win by at least ten goals to retain any credibility :D

Favourite,,shmavorite!!!! give a ********..
Come Saturday, Port will smash the Cows!
Port have the right to play in a further finals game to get into the grand final.... so much for having nothing to lose!
The Port players know this and the Cows will feel the brunt of the marauding Power.
The Cows will be exposed for what they are, an ultra defensive side that has not had an injury all year but with a decided lack of class and talent.
This is finals footy and yet, with St.Kilda going into a finals game with a host of unfit and average players, the Woes couldn't get over the line at HOME.
Won't it be great to see the look on Woes fans faces if they line up with Gugman (sparrow-brain) on C.Cornes.
The Cow players aren't up to it and the Cow fans are distraught at the thought that The Port Adelaide Power is going to destroy their "calender girls".

lucky chad cornes hasn't taken notice of this thread but then again he may of, seeing how during an interview on channel 9 he mentioned that they don't want anyone saying that "We have nothing to loose". the club has a lot to loose. defending their premiership is important to the players.
