I can't see a thread for this, so here is an article about it:

It a good idea. Anything that helps get decisions right has to be a good thing, as long as it doesn't slow the game too much....... which I don't think this will.

Excellent opportunity to trial the concept. Shall be really interesting to see it in operation.

What a joke, might as well not have an umpire then.

What a joke, might as well not have an umpire then....It’s just a trial mate. It may well turn out to be not much chop but there is no harm in at least giving it a go...

Were you one of the people against having a video umpire for Run outs and so forth too?

Worth a try.

To avoid wasting time, they should introduce the following rules for any decision that goes upstairs:

While awaiting the decision: 1) the fielding side must return to their positions and the bowler to the top of his mark (i.e. if it's not out we're ready to go straight away); and

2) The next batsman in must be ready to to take the field immediately in the event that it's given out (i.e. he goes and waits at the gate for the decision)

video for lbw has to stay. the number of incorrect decisions is far too high.

Let me get this right, the Aussies complain about a bad decision and the ICC bring in new technology for Australias next series?

Is that stupid Aussie still running the ICC?

No, video for LBW shouldn't be used. Eventually, the umpire in cricket will become redudant if this continues.

I say thank f*cking god! I don't think it should be used to decide whether it will hit the stumps or not, just if it pitched outside leg or was edged

Its a waste of time. What happened to the trial they had in England (The innovators of everything) where they had lines on the pitch so the umpire knew where the ball pitched. SO they either had a line the width of the stumps like the blue line used on Tv or they had a line down just showing where the leg stump line is all the way down the pitch.

Much easier than going to a video replay

After the ridiculous amount of LBW errors this series, they have to move to this - great arena to trial it in too.

The article is a bit ambiguous

By the end of it, I thought they were just talking about inside edges as they said the final decision rested with the umpire.

If I am reading correctly, the umpire makes a call but sends it 'upstairs' if there is a possible inside edge?

In the good old days, this was known as reasonable doubt. Not Out!

Two of you have raised good points. I am an advocate of virtual lines down the pitch, similar to NFL where they have a line for 10 yards.

And what umpires seem to neglect is "reasonable doubt". If they adhered to that more often, instead of getting sucked in by appeals, they'd make more correct decisions.

That last Warne dismissal was a shocker. Didn't need no replay to know that was missing by miles. Maybe umpiring at pitch level is too hard, and the adjudicating (sp?) should be in the box behind the bowler. It must be far easier to make calls from an elevated position.

those lines make it far too easy for the batsmen.

as for the video in the superseries, yeah its worth a trial. the only problem i see is that it will slow the game right down.

what? to get correct NOT OUT decisions? yeah, that'd be terrible.

I don't like the lines on the pitch idea either.
It would help the batsman decide what shot to play and it would change the game.
Surely the point is to get better LBW decisions, which are very difficult for mere humans to determine in real time.
