I seem to be one of the few who rates this bloke. Any fans on here?
Assuming he will go at the end of the year, what would you want in a trade to send Ries to Optus Oval?
Cheers boys.

He used to be very handy in the midfield but blokes like Lewis, Hodge and Bateman have taken his place. He is still quite handy as a back up midfielder for when one of the stars needs a rest. He seems to rack up the possies when he's on and the only thing that mucks up his game is his kicking. Still I think he should be kept in the Hawthorn team, he does have a role at the club and when Mitchell wasn't playing he proved he was able to get down and dirty and get the hard ball. I remember some of his efforts against Essendon (rd21) were quite amazing. There are others who should be chopped in front of him. I think he is plays hard and is courageous and really gives his all and loves Hawthorn, the way he plays and tries. If only his foot skills were better.
I think Nick Ries has shown when he is on the park that can get alot of the ball, and although he doesnt have the best disposal going around, he can still rack up large posses in a short time.
The main thing is he hasnt had the game time, and this would have to be a major concern, considering as it has been noted on here that Lewis, Mitchell & Crawford are starting ahead of him, but he is still a very handy player to have coming off the bench, but i think you would find that both parties would be looking for a suitable trade.
But it wouldnt suprise me to see if he still wasnt at Hawthorn next year, because he is still contracted for another year, and showed that he is worthy of a spot on the senior list, but its just whether he wants to be a bench player only.
The only other worry i can see for him in terms of trades, if a player is only a starting bench player in a team that finishes 14th, will their be much interest for someone who cant crack a starting possie in a poor side.
But Hawk fans stick with him

I like Ries. Tries his heart out, and makes good decisions with the ball, his kicking has got slightly better, but in generall is pretty bad. He'd be a keep if we didn't have Hodge, Mitchell, Lewis Bateman who are all in front of him. I'm more than happy to keep him for depth purposes, but he may get more opportunities at an another club.

Ripper bloke and a decent squad player. Unfortunately, I feel he has regressed this year.
Needs to work on his kicking but as Grendel has said, Riesy can be a valuable link up man.

He was a better player under Schwabby, so maybe Clarksons game plan does not suit him.
But Hawk fans stick with himYou stick with him - Next!

I don't rate Ries that highly at all, I think we should keep him for one more season just as a backup option while our draft picks from this year get experience.

Ries is a gun I wouldnt let him go for less than a first round draft choice

I do not think he is anything special he has improved in going in and under, but i think he should get one more season to earn a spot in the side if not............good bye

That kind of statemant would almost get you banned for life from this site, very Suzi like that was.
I wouldnt give up a hamburger with no meat for Nick Ries , he is hopless.

I will take my tongue out of my cheek now.
Does that help?
But I realy would love a first round draft choice for him .
I more likely to get banned for my anti -Kennett stand or my public questioning of Grens editing of it.
Ries is a gun I wouldnt let him go for less than a first round draft choiceIt's that sort of talk that re-ignited Danny Jacob's career.

Yes! That's the spirit. We should do a monthly one for each of our lesser players. :)
Jonny Hassal is a gun I wouldnt let him go for less than a first round draft choice

Ries played 12 games and in those games he was on the park for 60%. If you average/normalise that out he got the ball as much as Crawf. Another indicator is his disposal effectiveness. Kicks 72% (Crawf 65%) Handballs 91%(Crawf 86%).
He is contracted for next year. Suggest only way he would go this year would be if he was tied up in a trade deal initiated by another club.

He'd be handy at Carlton - he's certainly an upgrade on the inside mids you've got going there, Brett Johnson and the like.
Unfortunately his career has suffered from the emergence of two things - his poor disposal and Sam Mitchell.
As for what we'd get in a trade - he'd be worth more than the other hacks we've offloaded in recent times. A pick in the 40s most likely.
The only footballer ive seen with just weaknessses and no strengths
:D Nice one marz.

I can recall when similar bleatings were written about Tim Clarke only as far away as season 2004.

Ries has terrrific handball skills, better than the majority of footballers going around.
Kicking is worse than the majority and that's his big let down.
Handy depth player for a team light on for in'n'under ball winners. We are not light on for them and that's why we should look to see if we could trade him, best for him and us.
3rd or 4th rounder probably.

I think he speaks Cantoneese that would be considered a strenght in some circles. :)

That's Nick Stone who's the Cantonese speaker (or was at least studying the language).
I think he speaks Cantoneese that would be considered a strenght in some circles. :)
if he does i am wrong, he does have one strength. Hopefully he moves to Hong Kong and makes good use of his lone strength.
