If quality players are continually goin to leave the wimmera league to play in the much lower standard district league, wimmera officials have to start looking at how they can make it more enticing for players to stay in the much better league. Seeing as though the three horsham teams have a combined supporter base as many of tghe other teams they should look at introducing other teams from the horsham area to the big league which in turn will bring more supporters and money to the league. The more quality players that leave the wimmera league the likiliehood of clubs landing players like tuckey, macfarlene etc will continue to decrease. By offering some sort of incentive system ala the afl for making finals which would b shared between players and the club would make it alot more enticing but the league may not have the money required to do so, so the running of the league should be questioned. I attended wimmera league and horsham district league grand finals this year and anyone that thinks the worst wimmera league side isn't a 10 goal better side than any district league side is kidding themselves. Why quality players want to leave to play a scrubby brand of footy is rediculous. People say they leave coz they want to go play with their mates but i'm sure they have good mates at the club they are already at in most circumstances. Most quality players that leave wimmera league for district league become lesser footballers and even lesser athletes. Lets try and get the legue back to the glory days of around 2000 when good players played in the best league and the league was of a higher standard.
Feel free to comment back if u think i am being unfair or completely wrong
I agree an incentive for clubs making finals etc would be great but can the WFL afford it? Probably not due to the drought. This is also why a lot of wfl clubs are struggling to recruit as they don't have the finances as they usually do.
The WFL is not that far ahead in standard as you think either. I still rate the KNTFL top teams would go very good in the WFL. They are able to attract plenty of SANFL players to the league along with a handful of former afl players eg: Modra and Fiegert.
The Wimmera league need to try a few new ideas. Eg: Longer season, Night games, Easter games, Pre season carnival (incentive based), better playing surfaces, etc and if clubs get more professional maybe they can attract the quality of footballers you are talking about when back in 2000 the comp was very stong.

Talking about better playing surfaces. Nhill has been given a state government grant to both etend the oval as well as Resurface it with a different grass. Will be up for the "08" season.

i have to disagree sorry i have seen not many but a few wimmera league games and i do think that the top sides in the district leage could quite easily beat the bottom few in wimmera , its always goin to be hard with two differnt leagues in the one area , the clubs with the big dollars are always gonna throw money to get players therfor taking attractive lists away from clubs that can attract the big guns . there are alot of home grown very talented district footballers around that dont want to play wimmera leage because of the shit that district league cops about its shit football and whatever else

*** me u make the wimmera legue sound like the AFL and the district league sound like the mallee league under 13s. There are just as many good players in the district league as in the wimmera league. I know the wimmera league has players such as tuckey and Mcpharlane they are stars. But u have a look at the players such as butch, shultz hurley they are all exceptional players and could make it in any WFL side. And to say the bottom side in the wimmera league would beeat any side in the district league is a absolute joke. I seen the horsham saints play this year and they were woeful! A side like harrow would absolutley give them a touch up! So get off ya ***** high horse and have a look at the talent and the young talent int he district league its not as bas as u think it is.
ATTENTION: Gary Davidson resigns from coach at Nhill.
On behalf of myself thanks to gary for all he did for the NSC in '07' Hope everything works out.

losing Davidson will be a massive blow to nhill. I think they will lose a few players now and find it hard to attract players. What they need to do is attract and appoint a big name ex VFL,SANFL or AFL.
I hear that they could be losing Lannin back to Kaniva, Fritsch to North Ballarat and Graham to SANFL.

ah kakkapo it has everything to do with wimmera league as brearley is an ex nhill boy and wouldve probly taken the coaching job if he knew davidson was resigning

Note sure whos coaching dim coz kaniva have interviewed spider and pete mac. Stmicks having a crack at nathen sasche and horsham may lose some quality players to laharum.
Horsham will lose a few, they always do! Farr coaching, carr (ass) with an addition to be named, Batch and terry arnel are staying. Lachy woodward had a great year for a kid that has just turned 21, done good jobs on macfarlane and tuckey during the year except for at stawell when tucks towelled him up a bit but who didn`t he! His game on him in the G/F was more than serviceable when tucks kicks 4 and a couple of them were gimmes. Heard mibus was offered united job and said no thanks, no other whispers except adam carter may have been offered big coin to go to edenhope/apsley with tucker.

No chacne of returning to the cougers Budwinkle. Will be playing in Queensland with a bit of luck. Pretty ordinary by the current committee in my opinon not to be using servi as i thought the ground and its facilities were very good.
From what i hear the cougers could be the big improver with possible recruits including 2 former sanfl players, a few returning players (lannin and meyer) as well as some players from Darwin. How true this is i don't know. It has been mentioned that Dimboola's coach of last year Everitt had been linked with the vacnat coaching job. Is there any truth in this??

I realised that u'd be no chance mate ;) doen't hurt to ask thou !! Yer, lot's of stories raceing around about the Cougars at the moment, could be some kind of former Dimboola players get together here ! Everitt & McFarlane, have been talking with the club, and another couple of ex Dimboola high profile guys. Brad McCabe, is returning and who know's lal & scotty may return if all these other guys rock up (& Davo's gone).
Several other high profile names have been linked to club......... but it's a matter of getting them here i guess, as you know it's not just a matter of running around with a big cheque book !!
On the flip side Arty Mock will be very hard to replace (now that Walshy isn't hanging around!)
Might also be a good idea for the committee to pay a bit of attention to there current players and just consider trying to keep most of them happy.......... shutting Servi the way they did isn't sitting well with some ! But i guess appointing a couple of good on feild leaders would go a long way to getting everyone a bit keener !!

MARC GREIG AKA THE MERCENARY
Marc Greig, left North Ballarat Rooster after many year of service in the number 2 guernsey on sour note with other club stalwarts because of the decision The Roosters made to Align with AFL Club, Kangaroo's, this was well publicised in the Ballarat Courier. Marc then went from the Rooster to Coach The Warracknabeal Eagles Football Club in the Wimmera League for an alleged sum of 30K a year! First year Marc coached the side he was unable to get them to the finals, Some said the reason for this was because Marc only attended training once a week. Midway through Marc's first year as coach he signed on for a second season which as the first ended in the same fashion! The eagles not competing in September! After 2 years with the Eagles and a lazy 60k in the back pocket Marc has decided to turn his back on the boys at Anzac Park! Which begs the question was it all too hard or was it all just for the cash!!
As strange as this may sound it has become apparent that Marc is the new assistant coach of the club he once walked out on! The Roosters!
North Ballarat has confirmed alignment with the Kangaroos for a 3rd consecutive season, so after cleaning out a club for 60k this alignment appears to be no longer an issue. What hope do The Roosters hold now signing Marc as an assistant coach when he couldn't even take a Wimmera League side to September action.

There alot of factors to consider when a team doesn't make the finals, especially in country footy. And the coach is just one of them.. It may be that he didn't earn his money, it may not.. But i would like a little more of a reason than not playing finals..
Does anyone believe he coached them well or did he not deliver enough??

He is a close friend of mine and I was with him on numerous occasions when your club was hassling him upto 3-4 times a day demanding his signature, he wasn't the one that come up with that figure and your abit of there mark with it aswell. And your way off the mark with your comment "Leaving on sour grapes"... I'm sure if your from the eagles that you would have he's number, ring him to discuss your disapproval and any concerns instead of branding his name over the internet. Good day.

Good one idiot, Gary davidson took nhill 1 spot up from last year, but he is one of the most respected and welcomed coach and CLUB sucessful nhill has had in 20 years who knows how much he is one but coaching is not all about winning flags its also about developing young players and teaching them the game and aspects of it in which from what ive heard Marc Greig has done actually speaking of developing young players i spose Hinkley,Cheney and Mackenzie arent some of the best young players from the WFL are they?? Not too mention how he brang the best football out of the Krahes 2 players not blessed with raw talent.

Please stop bringing up how far he had to travel many players travel long distances to play i no someone who travelled a 12 hr round trip to play for not a cent travelling to play is the players choice and has nothing to do with performance if anything it would be more beneficial for players and clubs to have them live locally, not only could they then train together but socialise together

Beton 5, some people have succesfull jobs and get paid massive dollars to work, some people are good at football. Why not try to make a dollar out of wat ur good at ??? Partiqually if u are keen to coach. Im sure u would hav got paid a few bucks for playing. Cant tell me u went to Darwin for nothing wen u played in a premiership with johns up there in the 90's???

Good one idiot, Gary davidson took nhill 1 spot up from last year, but he is one of the most respected and welcomed coach and CLUB sucessful nhill has had in 20 years who knows how much he is one but coaching is not all about winning flags its also about developing young players and teaching them the game and aspects of it in which from what ive heard Marc Greig has done actually speaking of developing young players i spose Hinkley,Cheney and Mackenzie arent some of the best young players from the WFL are they?? Not too mention how he brang the best football out of the Krahes 2 players not blessed with raw talent.
So Beton5 Pipe down small change.
Animal - Hinkley, Cheney, peters and Mackenzie probably didn't play alot under Greig (TAC Cup plauyers over last 2 years) so doubt he can take too much credit for there success at TAC Cup level. In saying that Greig did a reasnoble job considering the players he had at the Eagles. If Warrack offered him the money they obivously thought he was worth it, so good luck to him for taking it.

From what i hear they isn't big $$$ for playing up in Darwin unless you are ex AFL or SANFL players i may be wrong though.
Who's coaching Nhill next year tige?? They would need to announce a coach asap i would think to help with there recruiting wouldn't they.
Are you going back or playing in B'rat next year champ?

Fair Call
Nick Peters Played 14 of a possible 20 in 2006 for the Rebels + 2 or 3 Senior games for Warrack Eagles i believe
Mackenzie Did not play rebels in 2006

WHAT PAGE WAS THAT ARTICLE ON BENNY SCOTT IN TODAYS PAPER MATE, OH THATS RIGHT JUST YOU TALKING TRIPE. YET AGAIN!!!!
What hope do The Roosters hold now signing Marc as an assistant coach when he couldn't even take a Wimmera League side to September action.
careful what you post cruise mode the truth on forums like these upset a lot of people but well said....

I think Guyro Smith will get united going. He has a had alot of success as a player and coach and if he can keep there list together they should at least make a grand final. What happened out a Nor-Quanny? My thoughts on Cobber Cassidy are that he is a very overated coach and can't believe he has coached united for as long as he has at senior level. Was a good player in his day by all accounts though. What is your opinon Animal?

My opinion is, that yes he was an excellent footballer in his day, and he is not overated as a coach! I have seen cobber play at the end of his career and actually seen all of his brothers play. Comes from a great footballing family. I was lucky enough to play with Brad, before he went to the rebels and the afl. His coaching has taken united to finals football, unfortunately not a grand final. He is not to blame for united not taking the next step. He gave his all, and unfortunately if the players don't take the blame, the coach has too, or at least the supporters and spectators blame the coach! At least he had a crack.:thumbsu: Im not animal, just stating my opinion.

Never Seen him play or coach just for bloke who won the Coach of the year award with a list like that he should have at least pulled runner up dont really know didnt see enough of WFL this yr or last to comment. Would be good to see another side pull a flag would be even nicer if it was one of the clubs west of horsham.

Havent heard it, would be good for GW if he did tho.
Even better for the WFL competition if he left horsham.

Hey rust...post a new thread on it...
Horsham United have done the right thing by signing Guy Smith. Younger bloke who can relate to his charges really well and sure to make players stay if not attract a number of fresh and young players to the club. Not a happy ending at NQ maybe due to the fact he may have been a bit full on for the district league Bombers who did not like it but if you are ever going to go beyond 4th or 5th spot then you have to put in the hard yards and get fair dinkum. Maybe NQ are happy with the middle of the road each year?
Cobber Cassidy by all accounts had his heart in the right place although his coaching style was straight out of the 1970's how to coach book. Heaps of ripe swearing and constant abuse at his players in front of the crowds does not help to make players step up and play better in this day and age. Probably would have beaten Stawell in the prelim if it was a dry day but still would have got thumped by Horsham inthe GF. Also word was he did not give some young blokes a decent run in the seniors rather he let a few blokes in their mid 20's stay in the side each week even though they did not get any better nor are likely to get any better over the next few years. Hope this does not mean the young blokes with potential who played off in the ressy's GF go elsewhere for a chance of senior footy. Also seems it did not help when he put Carter and Kearney straight into the side mid season as soon as they had said yes to the dollars even though they were not match fit. With Guy Smith at the helm and if the young blokes stay on, along with some handy up and comers from the Under 17's United are on the right track it seems.

No idea what he is like as a coach. But the way he addresed his players during the final at stawell was terrible. Maybe it was the old skool three quater time speal but the amount of F bombs he dropped was unbelivable. Not the type of motivational talk i'd want to here with one quater to go wen your team is playing for a Grand final berth. Wouldnt have motivated me to do a shit.

I believe Turner has up to half a dozen new recruits in the pipeline magic, also a couple of ex players to make a return, tho as we all no its very hard to get signiatures on the dotted line at this time of year. The rats have had good numbers at training to date, should be big improvers in 08.

I reckon hes around 6ft 3ish pretty mobile, only young however will be one of the best ruckmen goin around in 1 or 2 more years.people around the club speak very highly of him so it makes you wonder why he would leave stawell when there on the verge of something big ie(flag) to go and play for a bottom 3 side in navarre in the lpfl.
