qt 3 . 1 . 19 3 . 2 . 20
ht 7 . 3 . 45 7 . 2 . 44
3qt 11 . 9 . 75 9 . 4 . 58
4th 14 . 13 . 97 12 . 8 . 80
KFC diggers played well but couldn;t keep right up there
Next Week Horsham v Dimboola
and Horsham v Ararat in reserves, under 17's & Under 14's
how good is that having all grades
Just interested to know how Dimboola's Colin Wilson's season went this year !? Did hear in the press earlier in the season there was some what controvesy with him relating to some racial slur's pointed at him in some games also;
Where or what position did he play this season !?
What type of position best suits him !?
Is he quick or one paced !?
Is he a tall or a small !?
inside or ouside player
Is a popular with his team mates & peers or keeps to himself !?Any thoughts on the above would be helpful.

if it wasn't such a windy day it could been totally different win was blowing towards scott street end hope next week won't be a one sided game ,
i'll probly get the Reserves game which is early as the Under 17's is the Curtain raiser to the Seniors
i reckond if seniors have a draw in the seniors for example they could have other grades and just play games to fill in the morning rather then just have the one game. if a draw did occur? to make the day worth it
never been to a grand final where their was a draw

From listening one the radio he won on 16 votes with Mcfarline (last yrs winner) on 15 votes. then after that there were many ppl not far behind. Horsham dominated the count. Shows you gotta win games to get votes.

Can quash this rumour with pretty handy intel. Tucker is a bit unpredictable in his culb choices but Mibus and Wade will never be seen wearin Red, White and Black in th WFL

Horsham to win 4 in a row with Penny Best on for second year running. Dimmy would of been a huge chance to win but they have to many injuries to their gun players at the wrong end of the season. If they are to win Clugston or Stephenson to get BOG.

Grimmett
14 Sep 2006, 00:00
Wimmera league's record for consecutive premierships is four. Held by Ararat with the 'golden era' team of 1955-58. With premierships also in 1949 and 1951 the Rats claimed six in a ten year period.
Horsham will equal Ararat's long standing record this coming weekend without a doubt. Then they'll go after five in a row. This current period of Demons dominance is far and away the most impressive run of success and sustained brilliance I've seen in 30 years of watching WFL. The only thing close would be Horsham playing in every grand final from 1981 to 1987. But they only won in 1982 and 1983. :)

Well how the hell are they managing to keep their players around year after year? Their team is like a whos who of wimmera football. I mean they have Glen Faux playen in their 2s. I remember when he played for Beulah about 5 years ago, he was a really solid player. They gotta have a hard time keeping it under the salary cap.

I can assure you Horsham would be one of the lowest-paying clubs in the league. Farr and Bunworth coach and they would be lucky to get $10,000 between them! Both are just super loyal blokes and Horsham just dont spend big.
Skurrie used to get paid but he hasn't played this year, Luke Carr is an assistant so would get a bit but he could get 5 times more elsewhere. I don't know for sure but I'd estimate about $250 a game.
David Johns is the club's football manager so he can't go asking for money from the committee when he's on it.
Not sure about Arnel and Penny though, I imagine they get paid but they would be the only ones outside the three coaches who as I said get stuff all.
Their success is built from their juniors which they have in abundance because they are the oldest club in the biggest town. If you go down there on a Thursday night there are hundreds of kids everywhere.
The boys want to stay because they are winning flags. Where else would they get the chance to win 4 or possibly 5 flags in-a-row?

14 Sep 2006, 11:37
The vast majority of the Horsham players have graduated through the ranks and have a loyalty and desire to maintain the club's current good run. And the success breeds success as the best regional talent is flattered to be asked to play with Horsham so blokes like Cam Penny and Terry Arnel join.
I think they structured a pay system that rewards loyalty by paying for reaching milestone games such as 50, 100 etc. But if you leave and return you start back at zero for the 'loyalty' program I think.
They would be well under the salary cap if it still existed and it is a source of much amusement to me that Dimboola are reportedly paying anywhere from $80000 to $120000 to be the second best team in the league when the best team probably pays no more than $40000 including cash incentives to best players.

That used to be the case Grimmett until about four years ago because they couldn't afford it. They brought it in when Farr, Bunworth, Wright, Dummo, Andrew Carter, Lennon etc etc were just starting but when they were reaching 50 plus games they had to can it. However, by then they were in the running to win flags so they didn't care.
I doubt Horsham would spend $40,000, I reckon closer to $30,000. In all fariness to Dimmy though, they have a tiny population compared to Horsham and nowhere near as many juniors to fall back on. Their committee has put in a power of work to have a crack at the flag. Recruiting players to make the club stronger should not be frowned upon.
Saturday will determine whether that work from the Dimmy committee has been worth it.

Turner and Jess nothing except some travel costs for fuel.
Jackson and Bligh play for significantly less than they could earn at Tatyoon or Wickliffe-Lake Bolac. Probably about $350 to $450 per game at a guess. They both were Rats last year by the way.
McLoughlan costs about $250 per game because the club makes him take it. He doesn’t want to play lesser standard football and knocked back an offer from Tatyoon reputed to be worth $15000 for a season.
Ararat always paid under the old $50000 cap as they don’t have the ability to generate huge amounts of money. They would be under it still. I’d reckon if you factored in player incentives they might pay a max of $40000 including Law as coach.

But how would they be where are without the imports? They have as tiny population so they have to import players to be successful. Thier recruits have performed too and from what I hear they are good people as well. They live in the area so it's not as though they are just driving up on the day, taking their money and leaving.
Dimmy are trying everything to challenge Horsham's dominance which is great for the league. If Dimmy weren't in the league this year, the grand final would be a non-event.
If, as expected, Dimmy runs out of money and they all leave there will be no-one to challenge Horsham next unless Greig gets a heap of his Nth Ballarat mates.

He will need a few because i dont think that you will see nick peters, kyle cheney or clayton hinkley in warrack colors at all next year because they will be playing rebels all year. Also heard that jase hinkley is going away to uni. These four are some of the best young talent going around in the league, esp the first three. I remember when they came up and poached some kids from our area, Saxton had them on a 5 year plan he told em. That was about 4 years ago now. Maybe he didn't see the club lasting much longer, who knows? Journeyman is right, where the hell would the league be this year without their imports. I'd hazard a guess that between Horsham, Ararat and Horsham United they are not paying as much combined as Dimboola.
I bet ararat from 1999 to 2004 would of been paying out a heap of $$$$ as well. Players like allen, pitman, may, jackson, james, shea, edwards, fratin, mclouglan, oliver etc, etc don't play for nothing. You guys would of payed out some huge amounts of money.
They same for the eagles when they first merged. Would of spent a heap of coin also. Walder, rosa, quicks x 3, Tepper, Grants from Darwin, Doggy nuske etc, etc.
Untied over the last few years would of spent big amounts of money also. Tucker, Miller, Adams, Dandy, Mibus, Lindsey, carter.
Who cares if Dimmy spent a heap of coin good on them they were just unlucky they come up short but its better being up than on the bottom of the ladder like Nhill.
And how would the league of been if they hadn't got all these good players wone from darwin. Horsham would of beat the next best side bu 120 points. The Wimmera leaguie standard has dropped off over the last few years so to have these good players come down is a bonus.

Well if they are not coming back to horsham to coach the saints who will be?? They will sure need a playing coach next year. they wanted one this year but couldn't fing anyone for the job in time.
Who will all the coaches for wimmera league be next year??
Horsham - Farr and Bunga to go again at a guess (they were unbeaten)
Dimmy - Who knows (depends on saxtons bank balance come Feb i'd say)
United - Will cobber take it on again???? (did a pretty good job this year considering who they lost from last year)
Ararat - Law did a good job this year so he would have to get it again
MM - Delahunty did ok this yr they were expected to do better but still was an improvement on last year
Warrak - will not change keep the gun there
Stawell - Not sure who did it this yr so cant comment.. If they had a good run with the injury's they would have a half decent side
Nhill - I would say it was time for a change.. Dingo has a a fair crack at it but u never know he might get another year
Saints - Well they need a gun player that brings about 5 more guns back and one of them needs to coach
Anyone got any changes or prospects for coaches for next year???

Have heard Brad Millar is looking to come back to the region and would be keen on a coaching role i'd say. United should definately look at keeping cobber. He has a knack for getting the best out of the players that are there. He has coached for two seasons now (2004 & 2006) and in each season United has been written off only to make the finals in both years.
If they can get a couple of big recruits to the club, with him at the helm anything could happen.
Saints should try to attract someone to come and live in the region as they did with Heffernan in 2003, but this is getting harder to do each year with Horsham's dominance and the WFL dropping in playing standard.
The problem with the WFL league is that HDFL, Mallee league and NCFL clubs have much more cash than the bigger city clubs so the good players are being taken away. WFL needs to address this to keep the league alive and kicking as the major league in the wimmera/mallee

Mick Hynes coached the Burras this year. Donk Delahunty did it in 2005 I reckun.
Ararat is in turmoil. Forget all the glowing reports about premierships. Law has quit, the under 17 coach has been sacked and the premiership winning twos coach is on shaky ground. Rumours rife of a board takeover and of mass player walkouts at seconds level.
Stawell has re-signed Dale Power and attracted Dean Jumbo Jenkinson and Simon Day from the Glen-Dunkeld Rams as assistants. Brent Tuckey on $20k to play in 2007.
Saxton's money might hold out for another year as Mal Coutts is sounding out prospective coaches already. Dunno where that leaves Spider Everett..

If stawell do pick up Dean Jumbo Jenkinson that would be a great pick up for them, have played against him and he is a great player, gets a power of the footy and has a good long kick for a small man

Don't be surprised if Farr does the job by himself and Bunworth just plays.
Rumours persist that Tucker is heading to Saints.
I would very much doubt Miller to be back at United next year. Just can't see it happening.
Gary Davidson should be chased hard by Wimmera League clubs. The most organised and switched on coach in the region. United, Saints, Dimmy, Minyip-Murtoa and even Nhill should all be chasing him.

Heard a rumour Nhill are looking at an export to come back and coach next year? Somebody with plenty of big league experience, trying to get some of the kids to come back home such as Simon Brearley and those types. I played under Dingo at J/R and he just isn't big league material, once you've heard his speech 10 times it starts to get a bit old. Anybody confirm/deny any rumours? Also hearing Ararat are in big trouble down there with infighting etc...

Well as reported in today's mail times he has given up the pimp job after 3 years and 2 flags... So who would be most likely to chase him as he has stated that he wants to coach in wimmera league????

I hear from a good source at Nhill that they are chasing Davidson from Pimp and a bloke who played 2nds footy for sturt this year in the sanfl. Simon Brearley is Assistant Coach to Jamie Soloyom at St Arnuad next year i hear. Dusty Williamson and Aaron Cramer appear to be leaving along with Marty Ryan and possibley Ben Fritsch.

Ive played under him as well probably at the same time as you, is a fairly good talker and was a handy player in his day but it may be past him. Nhill have advertised their coaching position for 2007.

I hear dusty going to adelaide, cramer and ryan to jeparit rainbow and fritsch to ballarat.
From what i hear Jeparit rainbow are going all out looking for a new coach and assistant coaches as well as players. The 2 ward boys who have played at pimp are also rumoured to be going to J/R next year.

Who else are the Lakers looking at for potential recruits Tiger? Would have to think some of the Dimmy boys would be targets, also heard Scotty Batchelor rumoured as coach. Plenty of blokes in and around the Horsham area with ties to the club that might listen, especially with Hisser as the President now. Perhaps they are looking at beefing up the teams a bit before a move to HDFL in 2008...

TUCKEY SIGNS

Stawell Times-News

Stawell Mitre 10 Warriors have already landed what will be the biggest recruiting coup of the 2007 Wimmera Football League season.
Senior coach Dale Power confirmed on Monday that former Collingwood and West Coast Eagles footballer Brent Tuckey had signed with the Warriors for next season.
Power said it was boom signing for the club.
"Definitely, he is a proven class player," he said. "We have been hopeful, but last year was disappointing when he wanted to come and couldn't."
Tuckey was locked in a contract struggle with previous club South Adelaide, and was forced to sit out of the game for a year.
"This year, he obviously had a number of lucrative offers and he pretty much chose us ahead of all these other clubs," Power said. "We couldn't compete money wise. I think it's a year to year prospect. Hopefully we have a successful and enjoyable year and he might stay on."
Power said Tuckey had travelled to watch some games during the season and he thought a strong second half of the year could have made the decision to return to Stawell easier.
While there is no official position attached to Tuckey's contract, Power said he would no doubt be a significant leader on game days.
The high-profile tall played his early football with the Warriors, before moving to North Ballarat as an 18 year-old.
He was then drafted to Collingwood, where he played 19 senior matches before heading west to play a further three games for the West Coast Eagles.
More recently, Tuckey signed a two year deal with SANFL club South Adelaide, but fulfilled just one season after he said the club breached its contract.
“It was a struggle last year and I decided to come back and I couldn't play football," Tuckey said. "If I wanted to go all the way and take them to court I could have."
Tuckey said it was a difficult year off but he was pleased to finally make the move back to Stawell, repaying them for their commitment during the year.
"It's a genuine club and you know your not going to get stuffed around," Tuckey said. "Michelle (partner) and I are looking to buy a house and I am 27 now. To be honest it's a bit more convenient to play football down here (Melbourne) and there is a bit more money going around down here. I'm repaying the favour and the commitment they (Stawell) showed me."
Senior coach Dale Power and Tuckey's mate Daniel Thomas had been in regular contact with the former AFL player throughout the season.
In the end Tuckey said he had nine clubs chasing his signature, one being a lucrative assistant coaching deal with St Albans.
Tuckey, who will be unable to train with the Warriors but will do so at a club in Melbourne, said he will return with his partner to Stawell on Friday night prior to game day.
"She loves coming back more than I do," he said.
While reluctant to place any big hopes on next season, despite hoping for a finals berth, Tuckey is expecting a bright future Central Park.
"They are in good stead for upcoming years," he said. "In the next couple of years it's going to be quite exciting."
Tuckey will return to Stawell for next Saturday's Wimmera Football League grand final at Central Park.

WIMMERA FOOTBALL LEAGUE TEAM OF THE YEAR
Seven retain spot in year’s best
First published by:
The Weekly Advertiser
Thursday, September 28, 2006
By David Berry
Only seven players from last year's team have retained their positions in The Weekly Advertiser's Wimmera Football League team of the year, underlying the strength of the competition in 2006.
The big four from Horsham Terry Arnel, Cam Penny, David Johns and Stuart Farr, Dimboola pair Karl Lohde and Peter MacFarlane and Stawell's enduring half back specialist Daniel Thomas are the seven who have carried their great form into season 2006.
From last year Arnel moves up to centre half back from full back, Penny from a back flank to centre half forward, Farr from the centre to ruck rover, while Johns moves from centre half forward to the key forward post.
Lohde moves from a half forward flank to a wing, Thomas from a back pocket to back flank, while MacFarlane retains his status as the league's number one ruckman.
The team will have a whole new backline headed by Ararat pair Bradd Wilson and Joe Waring, along with Warrack Eagles coach Marc Greig.
In the case of Wilson and Waring, they have been instrumental in Ararat's rise this year and have been consistently among their team's best players. Greig provides the experience and guidance to our last line of defence.
Across the half back line Horsham pair Max Leeming and Terry Arnel work well together and are joined by Stawell mop-up specialist Daniel Thomas.
Our centre line is a beauty with Dimboola pair Karl Lohde and Shane Thorne on the wings and Minyip-Murtoa ball magnet John Kosch in the pivot. All three have the ability to run all day and are among the most skilful players in the league.
If you thought our centre line was a beauty check out our half forward line of Dimboola's Ash Clugston and Horsham pair Cam Penny and Luke Carr. This line alone kicked 15 goals between them in the grand final and would cause any opposition defenders plenty of headaches.
Our forward line isn't too bad either with record breaking full forward Horsham's David Johns flanked by Minyip-Murtoa's "99" man Clinton Midgley and Ararat's Mr Versatile Dale Bligh.
Our onball brigade is as tough as they come, led by MacFarlane in the ruck; Farr ruck roving and Dimboola's Al McKinnon.
On the interchange we have our resting ruckman in Nhill's Robert Price who had an impressive first year in Wimmera League. He is joined by star youngsters Stawell's Aiden Potter and Saint Matt Hoe, while the final spot went to Digger Michael Lienert who enjoyed his most consistent season.
The coaching job was a flip of the coin between Horsham's premiership duo of Stuart Farr and Damien Bunworth and Ararat's David Law.
Given the fact Law brought the Rats from the bottom of the ladder to third in one season, he got the job of looking after this star studded group, with Farr retaining his job as captain.
A number of players could consider themselves unlucky to miss out including Mal Adams, Gavin Kelm, Adam Carter, Damien Bunworth, Jarrod Wright, Ben Williamson, Zac Taggert, Brendan Ward and Andrew Carter, all of whom missed most of the season through injury or unavailability.
I'm sure Big W coach Bruce Petering would love to have this team at his disposal next year.

BIG NEWS - Nhill has signed Pimpiono Premiership Coach Garry Davidson as coach for next year. Nhill have been chasing him all year and have finally signed there man. It will be interesting to see whether he takes any players with him. You would expect a car load to travel up from horsham. Where will Schumann go now that he is no longer the coach? will he be a player at nhill and be a type of onfield leader if davidson doesnt play?

Wouldn't of thought nhill would want to retain schumann as a player maybe only if he played for nothing but he would want some sort of coin. I would expect him to go back to J/R. Getting to old for wimmera league anyway at 38.
Would of thought that davidson will be in for a tough ride next yeah though. Nhill would need to pick up at least 4 good quality players + lose know one from this year. Once again they will pump themselves up and fail to deliver results on the footy field. There committe is the problem along with a few of there supporters.
Hope they can turn it around though.

Just wondering how Brad Stephensen, Shane Thorne and Harold Calma went this year with Dimboola?
I heard a rumour that Horsham is chasing Dan Jordan from East Point in BFL. Yeah Stephensen is huge. He played the second half of the season after arriving mid year. Kicked quite a few goals but had a dismal finals series.
Calma, despite injury, had a good year. Won the VCFL under-21 medal in the grand final. Played a cameo defensive role and was just awesome.
The evasive-skilled Thorne was consistent and played a cameo role at full forward in the grand final with five goals.
I prove that despite being hundreds of thousands of kms away from the wimmera you can still keep up to date with the league!

No. Stephensen was recruited to the Roos from Canberra. They got on to him through the Darwin connection though.
As for his size he must go at about 6'5" as he had Fish Turner covered for height and he's 6'4". I'd guess Stephensen must be between 100 and 110kgs.
He would be a decent target in a SANFl side I'd think.
