View Full Version : Nooooooooo!!!!!!!!!
So Flash quit the Power today.
It was all about money I hear, apparently Port asked him to take a cut and he said no. Oh well, if we can't afford him I'm sure there's someone who can.
Dunno how to feel about this, he has always been my favourite player, now he quits on me. It would have been better if he was traded or delisted, but not quit.....
I guess that's one less now to delist.
Hope he ends up at St Kilda.
Or West Coast.

What are the options Port has now?
Can they redraft him in the preseason and then only offer him a lower contract (if no one picks him up in the draft)?
Frankly i am disapointed that both parties could not come to an agreement.
Look he is one of our top 10-15 players and should be paid well. But I hope that his departing is not just over 20 or 50k, it would be sad for Fabian to leave just because of money.
Obviously the club didn't see that he was worth as much as he wanted (the length of the contract probably was also an issue).
It is a sad day, i hope that Fabian wasn't just being greedy.

Its a very sad day when a long time player quits a club. Flash was with us back in the beginning back in 1990 in the under levels...he then went to melbourne, went to brisbane, quit the bears and returned to Port halfwya thru 95. He played in a premiership off the bench in that year....then went on to come 2nd in the Magarey in 96 (behind Francou) and be one of our major stars that season in our premiership year...he has been a fairly consistent contributor for us since 97, altho he has missed a number of games in 97 and 98 thru injury.
What now people may ask??
Well watch Dom Cassisi to shine on the wing this season!!!
There has been talk around the forums that off field pressures caused the Power not to renew his contract. Do you know if this is true.
I'm a Crows' supporter but loved to watch Fabian burst out of the backlines and run over the opposition ( except the Crows -<smile> )
I hope the Crows pick him up because he'd be a great asset.

Just to make light of the issue, he finished 16th in the B&F....
He really didn't seem to have the same commitment this year that he's had in previous season, and it looks like the coaching panel noticed that....and I think it was more about the long-term nature of the contract that he wanted, rather than the pay. He's 28 now...maybe Port only offered him a 1 or 2, and he wanted 3 or 4?
As for redrafting him.......players can actually name their minimum wage on the draft application (like Donald Dickie did a couple of years back)......so anyone drafting him is going to have to pay him that much.....which obviously Port aren't willing to do.

I personally loved watcning Him play when Port played the Eagles. I'm sure you guys will miss him. VERY big kick, and pretty accurate too! What position is he suited to best?

Wing. He does kickouts sometimes.

Sad to see Flash go, but there is only one boss of a footy team on the field, that is the coach, when Flash refused to come off when directed to do so, he broke a major team rule.
NO ONE is bigger than the club, nor the disciplines put in place, you toe the line or seek other pastures.
All the best wherever you go Flash, thanks for the memories, but remember, you are just a player, not the bloody coach

I'd like to see him get a go. Along with M.Stevens.
Also sad to see him leave, however with Hardwick and Wilson into the side and K Cornes and Cassisi pushing hard for selection he may not have made our best 22 next season.

Well, if he'd pulled his finger out and done more of the team thing he would have....
he's still got one of the longest kicks in the league
He has been a great player to watch over the years but if he doesn't want to stay at the club any more then I not going to start crying over it. If anything he has done us a favour, did the side really need two guys who can kick a ball over 60m and do very little else during the game in the team?. His season wasn't all that great and he does appear to be slowing down.
I just look foward to young guys like Cornes and Cassisi getting a go now.

Another point is that young Chris Hall who just got elevated from the rookie list has a kick of Dew/Francis proportions........long and accurate. If he comes along this year, could be a good centre square player on rotation.
