Was just reading through the "World Best 11" thread and picked up that there wasnt a heavy majority in favour of any one of the current wicket-keepers.
Got me thinking who would be the best wicket-keeper going around at the momen?
Gilchrist, would probably be the easy one but another series with the bat like the Ashes and he'd almost be finished.
Jones, Showed he cant keep for his life but can bat pretty well under pressure, especially with Freddie.
Sangakarra, Probably most in form keeper-batsman at the moment, good with the gloves and can make some big scores.
McCullum, Young at 24, always liked his skills behind the stumps to Vettori, averages 36 in tests and 22 in ODIs, pretty average.
Boucher, Has been in and out of the team during his career due to injuries and loss of form but is a solid keeper, averages 30 in tests and 25 in ODIs.
Dhoni, new into the Indian line-up, hasnt played a test yet but has a pretty healthy average of 32 in ODI's. Havent seem much of him myself.
Taibu, Captain and best batsman in a shockingly weak team, carries the line-up and is a good gloveman. Whatever happens to the Zimbabwians, cant blame this bloke for not giving his all.
Kamran, nothing special in my opinion, probably the dead opposite of Jones, can keep but cant bat.

why?? because gilly didn't average 50+ for one series. i'm guessing you have forgotten about his tour to new zealand which was in 2005 ! and besides, boucher has better hands than sanga, and deserves his spot in the world xi test team.
sanga is a batsman who dons the gloves and does a reasonable job. even when kalu was playing kalu wore the gloves and sanga played as a batsman.

Sanga is a better keeper than Gilly, if you dont agree well you are one bias MF.

There's a guy playing county cricket in England, Chris something, a lot of the English commentators said he should be in the test side right now as he's about 10 times superior to Jones. A couple of them said on pure wicketkeeping he's the equal of anyone, but won't get a chance because of the ludicrous modern trend of picking batsmen who keep a bit and not the other way around.
Be interested to see if they pick the kid ahead of Jones.

you would be thinking chris read, partridge.
and freak, darren berry can be considered unlucky not to have played for australia as healy was good and injury free.

Chris Read, good 'keeper but not as good with the willow as Jones. Would need a shocking loss of form from Jones for him to get dropped given that Jones is Fletcher's project player.

Purely on wicketkeeping ability, Taibu is the best currently playing test cricket.

From what I saw in last yeast years Test & VB series, Akmal was very impressive. Dhoni from India is an explosive batsman but looks to be in the Geraint category with gloves. Long way off a test gig at the moment.

Will Crosthwaite be Australia's next keeper? Saw him in England during their summer and he looked the goods, which backed up my thoughts about him having seen him play for the Vics.

he'd be a chance. but its all in the timing. the retirement or demise of gilly and the form of crosthwaite at the time. or perhaps the keeper after. i have always said timing needs to be good as australia like to stay with the one keeper if possible.
the rod marsh era saw a few no.2 w/keepers pass by maclean, wright, r phillips, w phillips, rixon, wooley (some were lucky to play because of WSC.
the 4 years between marsh and healy.....w phillips, dyer, zoehrer, rixon.
the healy era.....zoehrer was no. 2 for some time, then over time it went to emery...then gilchrist.
the gilchrist era......seccombe was no.2 for a while and berry was called up as cover on the ashes 2001 tour, and campbell in the odi game has been no.2 ...now its clearly haddin.
