View Full Version : Ryan Ferguson & Mark Jamar
Any opinions on these guys and whether or not they would be worth a look at by Carlton's recruiting staff?
Ferguson is a genuine key defender at 195cm. He needs some more bulk but due to injuries (shoulders I think) he hasn't been able to pump many weights. He can play though and is young.
Jamar is a huge bloke you can actually ruck and take a grab. His tap work is good and he moves well for a bloke who is 198cm and around 100-102kg.
Are they worth a swap for Whitnall and the Dees pick 12 or is that too much? Cheers.

We have to look at anyone we think can hold down a CHB position and free up Livo to take the third tall. So Ferguson, Polak and anyone else around the place needs to be given a go.
yep, ditto for ruckmen.
Not sure why everyone is keen to give our forwards away though. With the draft potentially being thin, give away a draft pick for a ruckman or backman.
I think I'd go for Ted Richards before Ferguson.
I would love to have Jamar at Carlton.

Ted Richards?
I think me and the Essendon recruiter guy are the only people who like Ted Richards.
I think he's going to be very good if Sheedy ever gives him 4 games in a row.
No thanks to Ted. Would be handy but would have a few others ahead of him on our list.

I'm with you, every time i watch Ted Richards, he seems to play ok, then he gets dropped for the following game. He'd get a game at Carlton for sure.

I like Ted, has impressed me a few times this year, but I would love to see Ferguson in a Carlton guernsey.

Prefer Ferguson over Ted.

hey boys,
Ferg will be one of our untouchables i think as we don't have lots of key backs to give away.

Firstly I don't want Jamar at the club. Jamar is a hack and there's no point trading for a hack ruckman when we've got plenty of them on our list already.
Secondly there is absolutely no chance of us getting Ferguson. Melbournes major weakenss this year has been it's defense and their unlikely to trade away one of their best defensive prospects.
Should we go for Jamar or Paul Johnson?? The Liston trophy winner this year (VFL B&F) and is younger but doesn't seem to get a gig at Melbourne....probably similiar to Salopek in a way that he was highly rated as a junior but has been starved of opportuinites and consequently done nothing..

I think Ferguson would be ideal, but I think I'd be happy to take a punt on Johnson instead of Jamar.........for the very reason you suggest, being that he was a highly rated junior who should have some improvement in him.
Jamar has been around a while now and seems to be the same player he was 2 season ago IMO.

Jamar's a better ruckman than Johnson.
Johnson will be a better player, he moves like a rover, not good overhead though, but a giant.
We wouldn't trade Ferg I wouldn't think, has been arguably our best defender this year, calling him courageous is a understatement.
I doubt we'd trade either Johnson or Jamar to be honest, we need back up rucks for White.
But clearly we wouldn't get Whitnall for nothing, so maybe we'd have to offer up our first pick + Jamar or Johnson...
