Heath Scotland has been one of Carlton's hardest working players this year, and has had a solid season. That's exactly why he should be traded.
With Murphy added to the midfield next year, plus Blackwell, plus a fair chance of landing one of Power, Bartel and Salopek, Carlton's midfield is looking in pretty good shape.
Scotland will compete for games and game time with Simpson, Bentick and Carazzo. Better to give the younger guys the opportunities, and get a good player in return for Scotland.

Just signed a 2 year contract...he ain't going anywhere especially with the likes Kouta about to retire and probably spend less time in the midfield and Campo being traded.

Why trade a midfielder when we are screaming for them? Even with the young players coming in we still need at least 8 midfielders to compete with the class opposition.Scotland would get a game at most clubs.
I feel Scotland is highly skilled but performing well below his ability. Some games he is on fire and does everything [ chasing, tackiling, harrassing, picking up heaps of kicks, getting the hard ball] Other times he just seems to be running around in a different game, not interested at all in the game he is playing in.
Once again feel that he needs to find some consistency like many of the players on our list.

His trade value wouldn't be very high.
Why not just keep him? He's a good player...

OK - so who gets dropped to the Bullants... Carrazzo, Bentick or Simpson?
We cant trade our middle aged players who are good on and off the field. Players who play well, set the example. Train hard and are professional and can influence the youngsters.
To my mind that is Scotland + Stevens.
Fevola is not in that camp. Would not trade him but I dont see the same attitude by him towards professionalism.
Lance is not either. Has not done enough to prepare himself these last 4 years.

Heath Scotland is living proof why you should never take a player from Collingwood.

Are you sure that Scotland and Stevens are so good off the field. To be fair you have said to your mind. I was just wondering if you knew this. Not everything gets to the press.

I know what you mean but I am not saying anything. Innocent until leaked to the press in my book.

midfield depth is something we should want, and I doubt we'd get anything of good value if we did trade him anyway.

the best teams in the comp have 8-10 onballers rotating through their midfield
we need to add depth to our midfield not just replace players
BTW who do you suggest we trade scotland for?

Check out the 'Potential Lineup for 2006' thread... NOBODY puts Scotland in their starting 18, and only 50% even have him on the bench.
So he's back where he was at Collingwood 2 years ago... sitting on the pine or in the VFL getting frustrated. Well, either Scotland is in that boat or one of Carrazzo/Bentick/Simpson is (EVERYBODY had all three of them in their starting 18).
He was in our best 18 in 2005, but probably not in 2006 and hard to see him figuring at all in 2007.
So, trade the guy while he has some currency...
Maybe as a sweetener in a deal for a Power/Bartel type, maybe a straight swap for someone like Gilham, or even Watts if we got lucky..
Think 2 years ahead.. do we want to be losing Bentick or Simpson because they got frustrated for lack of opportunity??

He is good ordinary player nothing more. You will not get anything more than a mid 30's pick for him any how. Not much currency there!!

SCotland will definitely be in my best 18 and its not at the expesne of Bentick/Simpson/Carrazzo.
Carrazo is a half back (not Scotland's role)
Simpson is a wing man (not Scotland's role)
Only Bentick has a similar role to Scotland and considering that Kouta will play much less time on the ball next year and Campo mught not be around we definitely need him as he has been very consistant.
