who do u think adelaide's next captain?
i think it will be Scott Thompson if he doesnt give away to many free kicks in the future.
Or what about Ben Rutten.. maybe might become captain

Scott Thompson and Martin Mattner are the logical choice to succeed Mark Ricciuto as the captain of the Adelaide football Club.
A few Dark horses would be Nathan Bock or Ben Rutten (as mentioned before) or Chris Knights (he looks to have that presence around that ball and among his SANFL peers that a future captain has. Nathan Van Berlo doesn’t have that outward (extraverted) personality to become a captain but that also might just be youth and being in the system for a short period of time.
Ken McGregor and Trent Hentschel are introverted personalities so that is not a good start for someone who has to become a leader
So it would have to come down to Scott Thompson, Martin Mattner or Chris Knight

I would prefer it to be a midfielder.
At this stage Scott Thompson.

Scott Thompson

Ben Rutten.
I can't believe last year some, including myself, were touting Reilly as a future captain.

I would have thought Marty Mattner would have been described as introverted. I disagree with your VB comment. For a young fellow, he looks like a seasoned veteran in front of the media.

At this stage it looks like Thompson.
crows98, on Nathan Van Berlo, he was a captain of the U18 WA side last year. The kid does have leadership qualities and I am sure he will be part of the leadership group in years to come.

Thommo by a mile at this stage. If we can somehow lure Pav back prior to Roo handing over the reigns, he would be a definite contender.

Fair enough and I will reassess my evaluation on him as a future leader. But in the future I would love to see Chris Knight (and Van Berlo going on what you two have said) awarded leadership honors as a larger incentive to stay. IIRC Kane Johnson was never officially an AVC or VC was he? Giving CK or NVB that title may have a bigger impact on their need to play for a home state side.
Steven Kernahan didn’t leave Carlton simply because of that reward he was given so early and the respect the club showed him.

Any asspirations Johncock had being a captain were dashed along with his commodore.
1) McGregor
2) Thompson
3) Rutten
Thompson will probably overtake McGregor sooner or later, but right now I think McG would be a better candidate.

Didn't Kernahan admit that he may well have come home but the AFC at the time only made a half arsed attempt to lure him back?

If Perrie stays on for the for a full career at the Crows would he be any chance? He leads the forward line.

I would be really p*ssed off if kenny became the captain. Love the guy, but he still has that introverted, nice guy look about him on the field.

If Roo was injured or something in the short term it would be Hart, Goodwin or Edwards.
If we're talking long term, it looks like Thompson might be a good candidate. He needs to work on his discipline though, ATM he is struggling to find the fine line between making his opponent earn his touches and taking it too far and giving the frees away. Should be a good leader one day, hopefully.

My mail was that Kernahan never had any intention of coming home to the Crows. Would have loved him too though, my favourite Glenelg player of all time.

No. Although, should be considered as one of the leadership group in time.

From the end of 1991 season up until mid October- November 1992 Chris McDermott and a few others were trying to court him to come home and play for the AFC (as the 3 are great friends, TH, CM & TM) but being Captain of the Carlton football club he was never going to leave. 1993 enter Tony Modra and a new ear of football history was written in SA.

As leadership material
McGregor ---> daylight ---> Perrie

IMO neither would be good captain material but both should be considered for the leadership group.

Ahhh... refreshing!

I believe that Scott Thompson should be groomed to be our next captain. He is still pretty young, so when Roo eventually retires, Thompson should be around the 25 - 26 year old mark, a great time to begin a 5+ year captaincy.

Yeah I knew about his mates getting in his ear about coming back, but I was led to believe that it was a pretty ham-fisted effort by the club, and they really didn't pursue him aggressively enough.
I'm sure we could have fit Sticks and Mods in the forward line together.
