Do you think Neil will keep him or delist him or is he worth a trade at least

I am not really sure. He would be a borderline either way. We have a fait few player to delist but we can't do it all in one year and especially not this year when the draft is consisdered to be weak.
We could be listenting to trades for him though ;)

In terms of his ability, IMO he's not up to it anymore.
However, just like Clarke, it would be too much of a risk to get rid of too many players and once, and as a result he should be kept on as a sole backup player. Its very doubtful we will have the injury free-year we had this season.
Keep Bode and Massie. Get rid of Schuhack, Smith and Begley. M. Stevens is retired and Watts + Ladhams have already left the club.

Given we have plenty of players leaving, including another HBF in Begley, I would keep Massie as a depth player in 2006.

Too much of a risk to get rid of him as a backup type of player if someone goes down. But I think his best AFL days are behind him.
Good onya for the win. It was well deserved and got those cocky weagle fans spitting chips. ;)

God, I hope not. But I have a feeling with 4 delistings/retirments/home to mummy we have had so far hre maybe saved. Adds nothing to the list though IMO.

We can't have too many youngsters on the list at once. Not all older players on our list can be guns, so "average" depth players are a necessary requirement. Massie is an OK player - just refer to the job he did on Braun in round 22.

I like Mass, but he is finished as a good AFL footballer - Mattner, Doughty, the Count, Johncock, Reilly, Hinge Nye, etc would be better value for the positions Massie plays.
He is simply too slow for the HBF or wing etc. these days.
We need to look forward not back. Masses time has been and gone. We need to look at new players. The draft this year is quite deep, despite what you hear on the boards. Lets get some kids into the club who have some speed or the ability to get to where the ball is, or both. Sadly Kris does not have these two abilities to the extent that is needed.
If you are not moving forward you are being overtaken in this game.

I don't disagree with some of the negative comments re Massie, particularly in respect of his lack of pace.
However, James Begley's retirement today has probably given Massie another year on the list.
So far we have Mark Stevens, Begley, Ladhams and Watts gone.
However Watts will hopefully be replaced by a draft pick or a player, so let's ignore Watts.
That's 3 gone without even looking at the list, and the maximum we will delist is 5 or 6 depending upon whether we promote Hinge to the main list.
Really we have no need to do so at this stage because Hudson's injury leaves it open to promote a rookie at any time and any one of the 4 depending upon what's needed.
For mine, Smith and Schuback have earned delistment through total non-achievement, and they might be the only others yet to come.

Just a thought, but is it worth, promoting Nye and Hinge to the main list to keep our picks at the National Draft to a minimum ? This way we dont have to spend our fourth (and possibly fifth) round picks in a weak draft and be obligated to offer 2 year contracts.
If you upgrade a rookie, can you give him a 1 year contract ?
We could be listenting to trades for him though ;)
Waht Stiffy meant is that we ARE listening to trades for him

Yes you can give them 1 year contracts thats why I think that there is a pretty good chance of promoting Hinge. I doubt you would get a better player in the 4th round of this year's draft pool.

With respect how can you put these two in that list - how many times have you seen them play.
OR
Is it because their new and fresh faced - with a touch of hope put into the decision. ;)

Its a pity that the retiring of begley may give him a chance, both should of got the chop last yr. We need van berlo, hinge or Nye if they are promoted as back ups next yr not a 25yrold slow hbf. NC's one downfall this yr.

Seen Nye play several times and in three of the games he played well. Like his attack on the ball and the body. He has the ability to play in the back half and would be a good run with player in time.
He has reasonable pace and yes his football future is in front of him. He may not be good enough in the end, but if you stick with players past their prime you pay the price in the long run.

I agree with your assessment - not sure though he has enough tricks to make it

Bite the bullett and delist him, he's not going to get any quicker next year and his skills are not good enough to compensate for a lack of pace.
There are any number of similar age or younger SANFL players who would be better options if they think the draft pool is thin. They would be good depth players and you might uncover another Shane Tuck. What do you lose?

I think its more a matter of giving Massie a 1 year deal compared to the 2 year deal that you must offer to every player you draft that hasn't been in the AFL system before.
The club needs to weigh up whether its better to give a 1 year deal to Massie than a 2 year deal for a player picked up in 4th or 5th round of the draft.

Surely someone like Jeremy Clayton, who has been in the system, has got be better value on a one year deal, spleen permitting.
There must be others in SANFL or VFL in the same boat. Port picked up Mahoney and he's no superstar but plays a role that Massie never will.

Either that or promote Nye and Hinge and delist Massie. That way a few extra spots on our list are taken up and we only have to offer Nye and Hinge 1 year deals. Along with that Massie is delisted aswell.

agree if they dont want to have a raw youngster atleast try and snag a midage player who might be something. Youngsters are better off as well, theres this talk about whats the point of having a 4th or 5th rounder but theres always someone that slips through every yr. Pearce was it this yr. If they are a dud after two yrs then it doesnt hurt to cut them. Massie will add nothing.
