Melbourne CC - Albert Ground

St.Kilda Road, Melbourne
Melway Ref 58 A5

Thats the best I got, I believe there would be trams and stuff running past the ground

Never been there before and cant find my melways

*edit* Thought I would throw in a nice little picture as well. Looks a lot smaller than Junktion and practically no seating at all

With it being Hodgeys home ground, hopefully he makes some runs to put pressure on the selectors

I think it was set at first for Junction but then moved for some reason....there was a thread a while back on this.

Nice pic, ed- so there's not seating- what about folks bringing folding chairs, blankets etc? If Junction is as bad as you say, why not look to put up temporary stands for a year and use a ground like this? Looks a bit like an English county "outer" ground- Hastings, Horsham, Southport etc. I reckon with proper arrangements, the VCA could have a nice second ground with an oval like this.

The Match is back at the Junction Oval they are expecting a big crowd and managed to get the drainage work down in a few days so the game can go ahead there this sunday. I have just been talking to the Club Cricket Manager at Cricket Victoria that is how I found out. It is a normal 50 over a side game starting at 10am.

My guess would be

White, Hodge, Moss, Hussey, Arnberger, Crosthwaite, Warne, Lewis, Harwood

Add a bowler (Wise? Some newcomer) and a batsman (Mash, Joseland, Dart or Innes?)

I just pray that Andrew McDonald doesnt play

World XI will probably play a squad

Sehwag
Gayle
Dravid
Lara
Kallis
Pietersen
Flintoff
Afridi
Sangakarra
Pollock
Vettori- Imagine having the luxury of him at no11

And Murali, Ntini and Ahktar would come on to bowl and a couple of batsman will sit out

that batsmen you add i would say would be a jewell or a klinger or a rummans and i doubt arnberger will play. i would probably say that all 3 are a huge chance to play infact as i think the squad will be something like this

white, hodge, moss, hussey, klinger, rummans, jewell, crosthwaite, warne, lewis, harwood, wise... with possibly klinger to sit out, just my guess tho, and warne might not play leaving another spot for a bat, because they have a spinner. warne is playing for st kilda on saturday and i doubt he wants that big a load, i could be wrong.

rummans is good, and will play, i know everyone is playing on the saturday but we are talking about s.k.warne here. a full english summer of cricket including the ashes. the last thing he would want is 2 games back to back on the first weekend he gets back.

I know, but in a game between a State side and the best XI in the world, not just any touring side, we need all the help we can get :p

On Rummans, he is average, a Pura Cup player at best, but shouldnt be played in the One Day side. The order I would like is

Moss
Jewell
Hodge
D.Hussey
Klinger
White
Crosthwaite
Warne
Harwood
Lewis
Bowler- Most likely Wise, but I dont like him

i think klinger won't be there, i would have to say they will pick rummans to add stability to that middle order. really they are one short of a bat in that line up as crosthwaite really isn't a true bat. i would say they will throw in another all rounder.

I would argue we already have the 4 all rounders and bat all the way down to 9

ANother option out there is Hewett as the last bowler, and I believe he can bat alright, making us bat down to 10

Quiney named for tilt at Dream Team
29/09/2005

Cricket in Victoria kicks off with a bang this weekend with Shane Warne and his Victorian teammates playing Premier Cricket on Saturday and the Bushrangers taking on the ICC Rest of the World team on Sunday.

Warnie will play his 51st first XI game for St Kilda -- and first since Cup Day 2001 -- against Essendon at Windy Hill as part of the National Long Live Club Cricket campaign.

This initiative aims to recognise and celebrate the role of Australia’s grade and premier cricket clubs who provide an important step in nurturing and developing elite cricketers on their road to state and national level.

Bushrangers skipper Cameron White, who has returned from Pakistan with his Australia A teammates Brad Hodge and Michael Lewis leads a strong Victorian side in Sunday's one-day match against the ICC Rest of the World XI at St Kilda's Junction Oval on Sunday.

Entry to the venue is free in what promises to be a great opportunity for fans to see many of the best players in the world at close range.

The Bushrangers have announced a near full strength team which also includes David Hussey and Jon Moss who have this week returned from their county cricket duties in England.

In what will be a dream debut, rookie batsman Rob Quiney from St Kilda will get his opportunity to bat against some of the world’s best bowlers including Shoaib Akhtar, Shaun Pollock, Andrew Flintoff and spinners Muthiah Muralidaran and Daniel Vettori. Quiney, at just 23, has played 60 Premier games for St Kilda and was one of the heroes of the Saints' 20004-05 premiership.

The Victorian squad is:

Cameron WHITE (c)

Adam CROSTHWAITE

Gerard DENTON

Shane HARWOOD

Brad HODGE

David HUSSEY

Nick JEWELL

Michael KLINGER

Michael LEWIS

Jonathan MOSS

Rob QUINEY

Tim WELSFORD

For coach Greg Shipperd, the practice match presents a wonderful opportunity. “For our group to be able to test their skills against the best in the world is indeed a rare opportunity. The players have indicated a real keenness for the contest and we hope that all supporters come and share the experience on what will be a day to remember,” he said.

Quiney looking forward to debut
29/09/2005

By Andrew Wu, Sportal

The prospect of seeing Shoaib Akhtar at the top of his mark before he roars in to send a 100-mile-an-hour thunderbolt is enough to unsettle even the most experienced Test batsman, so imagine what St Kilda's Rob Quiney will be feeling when he makes his debut for Victoria against the World XI at the Junction Oval on Sunday.

Having only learnt earlier in the day while playing for the Victorian second XI that he would be making his Victorian debut against an attack featuring quality pacemen such as Shaun Pollock, Andrew Flintoff and Akhtar, the news had not yet sunk in for Quiney.

"I don't think it'll sink in till the night before," Quiney said on Thursday evening.

"I suppose I'll be nervous. I'll do whatever I can to get over my nerves and play the way I normally play."

Having not cemented his place in the St Kilda first XI until two seasons ago, the 23-year-old left-hander, who grew up idolising former captain Allan Border, has come a long way in a short time.

While he has played in two premierships with his club, he sees his selection for Victoria this Sunday as the equal to his club successes.

"To play a four-day game for Victoria would probably be the best thing but winning two premierships for St Kilda would probably be on par at the moment," he said.

"It means a fair bit. Three or four years ago I didn't think I'd be in the state side so I'm pretty happy."

Quiney, who stroked 407 runs at 40.70 last season for the Saints, identified former Victorian paceman David Saker, who he described as a genius with the new ball, as the best bowler he has faced so far but hopes that after Sunday he will have had a long enough stay in the middle to find a replacement.

"I hope I last long enough to say one's as good as the other. I hope I can come up with another answer after Sunday," he said.

Prediction for tomorrow: If Vic bat first, they'll make 8/245 in 50 overs and the World XI will chase it down in 44 with 4 wickets to spare.
If the XI bat first, they'll make 7/300 and Vic will make 9/255 in reply.
I actually don't know the state of the pitch so I'm assuming it's a reasonable one for batting.
I'm also assuming the World XI don't go all out. I know some (eg Flintoff) will be rested, and the rest will be looking for a nice lead-in anyway.

It doesnt take long to remember why I hate ABC radio so much

******** THE NRL GRAND FINAL

It is a practice match. Grandstand broadcasts right around Australia and the biggest event today in Australia is the NRL.

So if Collingwood were in the GF Ed and NSW was playing the rest of the world would you be annoyed if they solely focused on the cricket? Of course you would.

The real stuff starts Wednesday

Ahktar is on fire out there

Nothing better than a fit and firing Ahktar and unlike when he plays for Pakistan, there is plenty of players to keep the pressure on

8/281 I think it is off 50 overs

Pollock and Dravid rescued the World XI score with 50's

To the person who said this wont work, why? When you have Pollock and Vettori at 9 and 10, you are never going to fail to post a big score

Because they don't want to play together.

No, the ABC broadcasts seperately into each state when they want to. SA and WA have the SANFL grand final, NSW and QLD the NRL and Victoria the cricket.

If that 2nd scenario was right, Vic would have the GF, NSW the cricket

Because they don't want to play together.

Barring the English players, everyone in that team has been beaten by Australia, most humiliated. Dont tell me they wont want to play together and beat the Aussies

Blokes like Shoaib and Murali, superb bowlers for their country, yet they carry an attack will love playing with the support they have in this side

The World XI is a great concept :thumbsu:

Just got back from the cricket, only watched the world XI innings. Klinger took a marvellous diving catch to dismiss lara i think.

Awesome crowd, peterson, gilchrist, ponting masks were handed out, a bushranger mascot handed out fixtures (I think) flanked by 2 nice birds.

It sucks that 774 are streaming on the net!!!!!!
