View Full Version : The Numbers are Thinning
It's interesting how things change quickly in the lead up to trade week.
Jimmy Bartel's deal looks likely to be done.
Salopek signs on with Port again after looking headed for Optus Oval.
Yze looks set to resign and Jonathan Hay looks set for the Kangaroos.
From a Carlton perspective Lance Whitnall is most likely leaving as is Matthew Lappin and the only prospects left who are looking to be traded are possibly Luke Power, Graham Polak, Daniel Motlop and Fergus Watts. Essendon are also looking to off Damien Cupido, Collingwood Ryan Lonie and Richard Cole's price is a first round pick.
The question... where do we go from here?
Target Power, Cupido, Lonie, Polak or Watts? and how does their value change as far as trading with fewer options on the market?
The other thought is who the hell will be left for the PSD? David Wirrapunda has asked for a lot of money and I'm sure would fit nicely in Blue. But that's a long shot.
We have to hope an out-of-contract player now asks for a lot of money and the club says no.

Would only trade something of value for Bartel, Salopek, Polak and Watts. Otherwise we should concentrate on getting youth into our team

It's not such a bad thing. The less people on the market, the more their market price increases.
We may not secure a big name player, but there's still lots of draft picks to go around.

if we target Cupido or Lonie then i will not be buying a membership next year
we must target the BEST player available ..not continue to pick up other teams hacks ie David clarke glen bowyer
First off let me say I don't, as a general rule, want to trade Fevola however I think if we could get this deal...
West Coast
Brendan Fevola
Pick 36
Carlton
Mark Seaby
Adam Selwood
Daniel McConnell
We should go for it. It would probably require paying some of his salary however.
It'd mean pick no. 4 in the draft would have to be used on Beau Dowler or someone capable of playing Full Forward in a years time, but that's not really a problem.

Out of that lot, Power and Polak.
Carlton needs to aim to pick up one top quality player in the trade period and one in the PSD. Then off load the likes of Lappin, Campo and Whitnall. This will mean we wont have to lose any of our top picks to secure other players.

our forward stocks are covered so i think the midfield and KP backman are our needs, therefore try and get Power and Polak yet try and retain pick 4. This may mean trading whitnall, campo and lappin, and hopefully try and snag one from the PSD. If Bartel doesnt sign with Geelong, then he should be our target. For me, trading Fevola is out of the question- for the whole mindset of the team, a team including power/bartel, polak and fevola with picks such as murphy and hurn/kennedy, it could lead to a positive mindset for the club to hopefully move onwards and upwards.
Take Power out of that running, his manager confirming he will stay at Brisbane
