Ill be doing a review of each players season over the next week or three
#1 Matthew Primus
22 Games, 284 disposals, 84 marks, 9 goals, 469 hitouts
An amazing season by our first year captain. Could we of asked any more from the big man?? Quite simply, no. He gave 110% in every game he played and was the most dominant ruckman of the 2001 season. The way he bustled his way around in ruck contests to get the ball and give it to the rovers was fantastic, and he was a major reason why we had such a good year. I am hoping Matt has just as good a 2002 as he did 2001. His first 6-7 games of the year were phenomenal. A fantastic footballer, the perfect onfield and off-field leader, and an all round great bloke! An asset to our team

#2 Darryl Wakelin
23 Games, 153 disposals, 59 marks, 26 rebounds
A solid season by our new defender in 2001. Was magnificent in the Ansett Cup and early on in the season before missing a game thru injury and sitting out most of the last half of the year on the bench. Was a good stopper and showed a lot of courage in his defensive efforts during the year. Will need to step up next year to be one of the key tall defenders in our side

#3 Brett Montgomery
24 Games, 396 disposals, 131 marks, 5 goals, 44 rebounds
An up and down season for Brett. Had a very very poor start to the year, and was lucky to keep his spot in the side in my view....around round 5 he turned it around to be our best small defender for the rest of the year. His last half of the season was nearly twice as good as his BnF winning season last year. Hoping for a more consistent season next year. Had a good finals game against Brisbane - which would of been his highlight for the year.

#4 Gavin Wanganeen
24 Games, 347 disposals, 72 marks, 40 goals, 53 Ins50
What a year!!! An integral part of our side who we have sorely missed in past years. Had arguably his greatest season of AFL. Played only 11-12 games up forward and ended with 40 goals for the year, and was awesome in defence when moved their halfway thru the season. His highlight would be his career best 6 goal game against Adelaide which helped sink the crows, and his blistering game against Fremantle. Hopefully Gavin is fit for the entire 2002 season as well.

#5 Shane Bond

A dissapointing injury ruined season. Came back from a knee recon in 2000, and was playing reaonably good footy in his return games for Port Magpies...until he pulled a hamstring while kicking a great goal in from the bowling club boundary line. He was very close to recall at that stage...and never really recovered again...played about 4 games in total for the Magpies seniors and another 3 for the reserves. Strained his hamstring 3-4 times and also badly hurt his ankle. Mark Williams has given him a lifeline and has said he will be kept for 2002 - it would be great to see Bondy running around the backlines again...or maybe we could play him up forward (he is a natural forward)
