View Full Version : Let's make some trade predictions!

OK, we've had a week of names bandied about and time to think about it. Let's have a crack at what might go down. Here's my predictions (remember the ball may not be 100% Swarowski crystal ... ;) )

Pickett + 1st round -> Roos -> Motlop + 2nd round

Choppy covets Motlop and rumours are strong Motlop is happy to go to Port. Byron + 1 is over the odds, even a lovesick Choco should see that, so needs some balancing. Brisbane's purported offer is better but Motlop hasn't indicated any preference to go there. Will be our major trade.

Thurstans + 2nd round -> Dogs -> Boyd, Birss

Choco gets a couple of solid bodies for the midfield mix and HB he craves.

Gilham -> Essendon -> Bullen

Choco gets a wingman. He's been looking for one of those.

3rd round -> Melbourne -> Armstrong.

Another midfielder Choco likes for the mix.

I don't buy the Carr is Portsick stuff, I think that's mischief making by Cornes. It'd be nice, but there's no romance in football anymore, just cold, hard deals.

I've lowered my sights from a couple of weeks back, but reality bites ... ;)

Anyway people, join in!

Pavlich and Carr to Port

The Roach and Peel Freo

This year our first rounder has a fair chance of being traded.

Pickett + 2nd rounder --> Motlop
Armstrong --> Port for picks (No ???)
Gilham or Toby --> ??? (In Melbourne somewhere. Perhaps to the Bullies or Richmond for a pick upgrade)

There may even be a 3 club deal to fit the above trades in . Possibly Essendon will try to get involved as well since that is one of Sheedy's fetishes.

By the end of the week we will lose two players, gain two players and upgrade one or more of our picks since Pickett + (Gilham or Toby) > Motlop + Armstrong trade value wise.

I would love to have Toby Thurstans plus 3rd round pick for Birss and Boydd/ a pick
I reckon this would be good for both teams we get a kpp and port gets some speed through there midfield without losing too much. :thumbsu:

No. Thurstans plus our 2nd rounder for you first rounder would be better.

My trade prediction is that we won't make any obviously stupid trades, but we will make one bizarrely stupid trade that nobody saw coming.

Bullen to Port will be the most likely trade I feel.

Hopefully we can hold onto that 1st round pick, clearing Thurstans would be a bonus.

I tend to agree but the interesting point with this one is that it's supposedly the partner that really wants to return to Adelaide...........so will mother or partner win out.

Even so I wouldn't see this happening until the 2007 season if it does eventuate.

I predict that Bullen will come on board and become the next Cochrane. Recruited because of a history of nullifying Nick Stevens. The sort of player that Choco won't be able to resist playing. Other than that one game he played on Stevens circe 2003, has he ever done anything decent?

I hope we don't get carried away picking up fringe depth players at the expense of 2nd or third round draft picks.

For example Essendon's second round pick for Gilham would please me more than Bullen.

The proposed Bulldogs trade seems pretty right - I have seen Boyd do some decent things but again he is a bench player at best in our lineup.

Pickett for Motlop and an exchange of draft picks? The more I think about this the more I would just prefer a fit and firing Byron Pickett playing for us for the next 3 years.

Pick 14 really has to be used to either land a genuine first 18 player and preferably starting midfielder or to draft for one. If we could set out to use that pick to land another Chaplin or Thomson that would suit us perfectly. Don't waste it Choco. The difference between having it and not having it regardless of whether Motlop plays with us, could be huge.

...particularly given that quite often, draft years considered to be `weak' often mean that its the Victorian competition that is weak, not interstate.

Be content to know my expertise at tipping trades and draft picks is right up there with picking Melbourne Cup winners (let's just say I do better with the dumb luck of sweeps than the serious thought of picking on form).

The Pickett/Motlop deal is the controversial one ... but Choco has been talking Motlop up a lot ... could be wearing his heart on his sleeve or playing the game, you can't be sure with Choco. But apparently the Sunday Herald Sun today today is suggesting a straight swap - similar to the rumour in Adelaide earlier in the week. Roos supporters would be apoplectic, they're starry eyed with thoughts of #9 and Mal Michael. Of course if Motlop refuses to go to Brissie ... ;)

Never even mind that, I find it incredibly hard to believe Brisbane would part with that for Motlop. That trade would be closer to the value of Welles than Motlop, ffs.

Greg Denham who wrote the alleged Brisbane offer in The Australian has been trying all week to bump up Motlop's trade value. First he said North had rejected Salopek as a straight swap, even though Port had an improved offer in front of Salopek at the time,and then was mooting Melbourne had offered their first two rounds of draft picks for Motlop. Next came the Brissie "offer". You wonder what his game is ...

If his next article claims Collingwood are offering Tarrant, Fraser and #2, I reckon we might have an idea ... ;)

Firstly, The Kangaroos ruled out an straight swap for salopek before he signed because salopek was still considering his options and salopek had been put in as a possible trade and the kangaroos just said it wouldn't happen.

Secondly, Brisbane rate motlop as an equal to wells and they are willing to give up their first pick 9 and a player (Notting, Selwood) so they can open up their salary cap a bit.

Thirdly, Motlop is most likely to go to South Australia as that is his prefer place but if a suitable deal is not given the roos will trade with Brisbane or Melbourne.

Just getting the facts Straight.

Pickett + 2nd round -> Roos -> Motlop
Gilham -> Essendon -> Bullen or draft picks
Thurstans or white -> Dogs -> Boyd or Birss or draft picks
3rd round -> Melbourne -> Armstrong.

At least this way we keep our first round pick. With what FF had, we only had one 2nd round pick left. Honestly, i doubt we'll trade this much anyway. We'll probably only end up with two (if that) of the players listed above.

The value of Motlop seems quite volatile, so I did value up. At the moment, it could even be a straight swap.

Are you telling us something about Choppy? If that's the case, wouldn't Choppy's interests be better served if they were on the same side? :p

I had been wondering about the possibility of this, too. I think even a late pick in the main draft. How old is he?

his was pretty good 2003 and got a rising star.

dont understand williams attraction too him given his recent form.

i'd take gilham for him if he was offered.

Murphy and Birss for Gilham, yes.
Throw in Cooney, Mcmahon, Griffen and Ray, then you can have White.
Otherwise, f*** off.

Cool the jets.

Birss & a 3rd Rounder is all you'd probably get for White.

Thurstans isn't rated by many, IF any.

All depends on how interested Port are in Birss.
