Talking earlier this week about big goalkickers in country football, a mention was made of a Trevor Sutton who apparently had some large tallies in the Murray league. Anyone got any knowledge or details of this bloke?

Superboot a Ram favorite
Taken from Deniliquin Pastoral Times, May 1999.
HE may have been the ultimate headache for opposition defenders but for Deniliquin Football Club supporters Trevor Sutton was an adopted favorite. He came to Deniliquin in 1981 with a big reputation and he left two years later with a swag of goals and a bag of records.
Recruited from Brisbane where he played for two seasons, Sutton was a football mercenary, playing everywhere from country Western Australia, Footscray, Norwood and in Darwin during the off season.
The first player to kick 100 goals in the Darwin competition, he repeated the feat in his first year at the Hardinge St Oval booting 121 majors in 1981.
It was an impressive first season for the spring heeled forward but nothing could prepare fans for the goalkicking show he put on the following year.
Playing as a permanent full forward Sutton started the season without fuss, kicking 80 goals as Deniliquin lost its opening match to Numurkah.
Another eight goals the following week gave him a comfortable lead on the goalkicking ladder and 13 majors in round three wet the appetite of Rams fans.
By round five he had an amazing 61 goals on the board including an MFL record 24 against Coleambally while wearing a pair of running shoes.
In round nine he had posted his centry of goals, the quickest of any major league player and the records continued to tumble.
A 17 goal haul against Strathmerton in round 17 helped him pass the magical 200 mark and the following week he added 11 to pass the 48 year Australian record of 220 goals in a season.
By the time Deniliquin bowed out of the finals race in the preliminary final, Sutton had booted 249 goals.
It was an amazing year from the coach and one which will be forever remembered in the minds of Rams' fans.

Saw him play years ago in the Mid Murray, the bloke could seriously play. I think he still holds a s***load of goalkicking records in a heap of leagues.

Saw him play years ago in the Mid Murray, the bloke could seriously play. I think he still holds a s***load of goalkicking records in a heap of leagues.
A couple of years ago they actually did a story about him on one of the local radio stations. He played for a mountain of years at an unbelievable amount of clubs around the state. I have a mate who used to play at Strathmerton who reckons they played against him 5 times in 2 years and on each occasion Sutton kicked over 20 goals! Apparently he was a boxer and just a real powerfully built bloke. But surprisingly, like a lot of champion country footballers, couldn't make it at league level...
