Sat down and watched the Kangaroos final in its entirety last night. Thoroughly enjoyed it and kept trying to put to the back of the memory box what happened the following week.

While watching it, one thing repeatedly occurred to me.

There is something pretty familiar about this Pettigrew kid.

A few weeks ago someone enquired on this board about what Tredders was like as a prePower footballer, and I made the comment that he had the body shape/size and movements of Pettigrew.
It is easy to forget how tall the Grew is when you watch him run and bounce the footy and snap around corners, but he appears the same height as Shannon Watt and about Tredders' height.

My point is, this might be the kid to be moulded into that FF we keep on talking about. I know many of us haven't lost faith in Damon and still believe that he needs opportunities and exposure there, but as he fills out Pettigrew could hold down a key post. Sure most of us had him in our reckoning to play as FB, but right now might be the time for the coaches to make a call about which direction his career is going to take.

If the Grew is ultimately played as a FF, then IMO Damon should be trialled as early as 2006 as a key defender.
Chaplin at CHB and White at FB might work in the longterm.
Let's also not forget that Chad can always stay at CHB, and Chappy play at FB.

Just a thought. Perhaps the structure can be found from the guys we already have by shifting them around a bit.

In the current AFL, scragging by fullbacks goes almost entirely unmolested, meaning you need a lot of strength to get out.

I would not want the club to make any long term planning that required Pettigrew to be more than a third tall or a flanker.

No matter what position 'The Grew' plays up forward, he will be a key part of this team and he is a magnificent kick for goal. His first miss came against the Roo's in the elimination final.

He's got a good future ahead of him. Even if we continue to give White chances at FF, let Grew play at in the left forward pocket or something, with Mahoney (assuming he stays) on the other side.

Grew, Chad and Shaun Burgoyne will provide our team with a great deal of versatility over the next few years, they can literally play anywhere around the ground. I'm too soft to pencil Pettigrew into a position, I can fully see him used a la Chad, placed wherever he can have the biggest impact on the game/exploit a match-up.

I think PJ is right. But give Damo one more chance at CHF/FF if it doesn't work send him down back and let Grew play FF.

I sort of liked the way Pettigrew used his speed from the pocket and up along the wing and would still like to see him doing that for now.
There is no desperate need to have a FF as such, God knows we've gone long enough without one. If White doesn't come up (assuming attempts to develop him there continue) we can continue to rest our ruckmen there.
