An article in the West australian... http://www.thewest.com.au/20051003/sport/tw-sport-home-sto132388.html
Icke said the club was confident Polak, 21, would develop into an important player and the match committee had no interest in trading him.
"Our position is that he won't be traded," Icke said. "Chris Connolly has said he won't be traded, so that's it. We are not going to put his name up to other clubs and we haven't put his name up. If another club wants to ask about him, that's up to them."

I sure hope Polak has learnt a lot from this past year and somehow draws motivation from it.
Icke said. "If another club wants to ask about him, that's up to them."
Well I think that last sentence implies that they are willing to consider offers but aren’t too determined to offload Polak. Just the club using the media to position themselves in trade negotiations.
Now that Hay has burnt his bridges we are in much stronger bargaining position (assuming we actually want him).
I would hate to see Polak go, but I keep hearing stories about his dedication to partying >> his dedication to football. If he goes then this probably would have been the reason why.

If he goes it will be beacuase the recruiting people think that we are better off with who/what we get in exchange, and over the past 3-4 years they have been pretty good.

At last some sensible comment from the club re Polack to quell the rumours. Its true that no one is untradable but keeping Polly is a good Idea

Our trading periods under Connolly-
2002- Headland for pick 3 and McPhee = Massive loss
Leigh Brown for pick 13 (Schammer) = even trade
2003- Croad for pick 10 (Ryley Dunn) = big loss
Koops for pick 19 (mundy) = massive win
2004- Black for Simmonds = Slight win, aslong as JLo and Sandi stay fit.
J. Carr for picks 11, 27 and 43 = too early to judge, but doesn't look
good at this stage.
Not exactly great results over the last 3 trade periods.
If we trade Polak it is because the young man has become confused. He hasn't been able to settle in a position and has been poorly coached. His kicking is poor, as is his decision making. He would have benefitted from a month in the WAFL to build his confidence at some stage over the last 2 seasons. It looks like Connolly might do the same to Murphy. He looked like a gun at FF in the WAFL last year but he has spent more time on the bench and in defence for Freo and looks confused.

Typical one eyed point of view. Symonds for Black is a big win, given that the option was a five year contract, and that Black was around our best player last year. And like most supporters was pretty happy to get rid of Croad who was destabilising the team with poor attitude.
And love the way that Mundy is just a success (not related to Coaching), but Polak's porr kicking and decision making and your unspecified concerns about Murphy are the result of poor coaching.MacPharlin and Pavlich have not been allowed to settle into a position either, and that has resulted in us having two fantastic KPP who can give the team scary flexibility. If that can happen to Polak and Murphy then the potential havoc we can create with different matchups would be an awesome tool.

I wasn't factoring money or anything else into the equation when I analysed each deal. I was just comparing the ability of the players, both now and in the future. Black was very good this year, but a good tall is always worth more than a good small. If richmond didn't have 1st pick in the PSD we would have got more for Simmonds considering we almost got Black for pick 27 twelve months before. If we got pick 27 for Simmonds most people would have been disappointed.
Croad wasn't destabilising the club with a poor attitude. He was one of our hardest workers on the training track and worked hard in the gym setting the standard for the younger blokes. He was played out of position and struggled to handle the pressure from the media. If it wasn't for the massive price we paid for him, both at the trade table and in $$$ (neither of which were his fault) most supporters would have been happy for him to stay. He played well in his 1st season at full forward but struggled at CHF. He goes back to the hawks, is played in defence, and is selected in the AA team. If we traded away every player after one bad season then we would be trading atleast a dozen players this week.
Mundy's good form is due to the natural talent he brought with him to the club. Yes Phil Smart did well in selecting him, but most of his attributes he brought to the club. The challenge for the coaching staff is to turn him from a good young player into one of the best players in the competition. If Mundy goes on to become an AA half back or a dominant midfielder credit can then be given to the coaching staff. Until then he is just another good young player, of which we've had a plethora of over the last 11 years.
Polak's problems are coaching related because he was as good a kick, if not better when he arrived at the club. Either Connolly, the forward coach or the biomechanist have got into his head and he's thinking too much. Kicking a footy isn't rocket science. Polak arrived at the club as the 1st KPP selected in the best draft in history. He finished 2nd in the rising star, and looked to be a superstar in the making. He is now a guy who can take a great mark but can do little else. Hopefully the continual trade speculation lets Pollie know that you have to coach and motivate yourself at Fremantle.
Murphy kicked regular bags of goals in 2004 for Souths. In the games he played for Freo this year he spent more time in defence and on the bench than he did in the forward line. He finished the year at Souths a long way behind his form of 12 months earlier. He's obviously struggling to handle the mixed messages he is getting from the coaching staff.
Pavlich and McPharlin were already guns in their position when they were moved. Pavlich was an AA defender when he was moved to the middle, and an AA midfielder when moved to CHF. McPharlin would have been AA CHB if he wasn't moved forward, which was in the best interest of the team. When you are dominating in one position you are full of confidence when moved to another. When you are a kid finding his feet and you are thrown forward/back/bench you get confused and lose confidence.

Mate you are an AA master of justification and double standards.
