Do you guys know why Daicos knocked back the specialist coach job?

Doesnt seem to be doing much media wise and I thought he would have jumped at the chance to return.

Was he deemed not what the club wanted, football philosophy not in line with Micks?

I don't think he knocked it back, it sounds like we decided not to go with him.

I'd be just as happy, with Carey being brought in to coach the forward line, if Gavin Brown focussed more of his attention on the midfield. He was better there anyway.

Whilst i wouldve loved to have had him back at the club, i always wondered why he was going to be midfield coach??

Not doubting his midfield skills, but most of his experience was gained playing up forward.

His skills in the midfield might actually be able to be passed on.

He essentially was successful in the forward line because he's a freak. I mean, other players simply can't do what he did in the forward line, but they may have a chance of picking up his ideas about the midfield.

I'm sure they'd be able to pick up some of his ideas about the midfield, but wouldnt they have a better chance of picking up more ideas being coached by someone who's played midfield for most of their career, (and preferrably excelled at it)

During his career he was without doubt our best midfielder. Better than McGuane, better than Brown, better than Millane, better than Wright, better than Shaw, better than Francis.

The dilemma was that he was an even better forward, and was more value to the side as a forward, and he copped fewer injuries as a forward. So he played very few games in the centre because we had tons of midfielders but no goalkickers.

I'm with you hotpie. Most people can't remember Daics playing in the midfield, but before he did his knee, he was probably our best midfielder since B Rose. For the youngsters on here, he was like R Harvey in that he couldn't be tackled, & his vision & skills were obviously sublime.

How about the possibility Daicos doesn't want to coach, or he is a bad coach. It is one thing to do something, it is another thing to teach it.
