View Full Version : Gilchrist needs a batting coach

 Why does he always get out that way playing down the wrong line to a ball moving in on him its only luck that they started off bowling rubbish to him cause clearly he is suspect around the off stump.

Doesnt he have some sort of coach to sort that out

he needs a batting coach????

only one of 2 wicket keeper batsmen to average over 50 in the game.

has 7000+ runs at odi level.

let gilly play his own way, a pure delight and any runs he makes are considered a bonus. he gets paid to wicketkeep.

NO he doesn't. His record speaks for itself. He is now slowly on the way down from his lofty high performance peaks.

He still does his ODI duty. His role when 1st being promoted to opener in the ODI was to emulate the Sri Lankians at the time and change Australia's batting attitude from slow, solid, platform building starts... to attack and plunder the early overs to get Australia off to flying starts. Gilchrist STILL DOES THIS even if he is getting out in his 30s or 40s they are off a run a ball or less. The odd time he does go on with it is just bonus quick runs for Aust.

It is the Australian MIDDLE ORDER that need the batting coach or thinking coach. With Gilly getting them off to the flying starts they should learn they don't need to play the attacking game in the middle overs.... they just need to consolidate and push the 1's and 2's keeping wickets in hand until 40 over mark.

He has had problems with balls coming into him from outside off around the wicket, or over for lefties, for his whole career, why would he need a batting coach now?

Come back when you grow up pal.

you look like a damn fool when you berate somebody and they come out and hit a ton.

when you score an ODI 100 in 70 something balls then you can criticise the great man.

Throughout his career, he's had a few problems with being bowled when quicks come around the wicket at him

But when he's in form, he rarely misses one

Didn't miss one today

It is quite strange, when out of form he gets out the same way almost every time. Generally around that time people start saying he can’t play quality fast bowling.

Then he goes nuts and it doesn’t matter who bowls at him or where.

Was great to see him in full flight again. You can’t help but smile when he turns on the magic.

On behalf of all the West Coast supporters, I'd like to say we're not all like this guy. This guy is a tool of the highest order and I don't know how we can be associated with someone like him.
For the record Gilly would be in most peoples best XI of all time, let alone the best now.

woops sorry I havent replied I'm back at school and then we went to the beach afterwards so I dont have much time to sit at my computer all day like a loner and type stuff.

also he averaged 20 in england in 8 innings so he is crap against good fast bowling he only has a good average cause he usually bats against poor fast bowlersbowlers on flat tracks who cant do anything with the ball when they move it in to him he looks bad and his footwork is all over the place.

BTW I'm in the dennis lillie fast bowling academy and have bowled alongside gilly in the nets so Im not just talking without knowing some stuff.

anyway have to go

mate, your born in 1978, if you are at school, there's some problems there.

Also, Gilchrist is on 94 against the world's best bowlers so you're stuffed there. He has batted very well against good fast bowling and i've seen no problems with his technique so you're stuffed there. Ah well, you got some attention from people so well done.

Call me nuts, but I don't think Gilly is that good a batsman in a technical sense- inside edges onto his stumps way too much, and embarassing as it is to agree with Tony Grieg, his footwork is sometimes non-existent.

His recent form slump was as much about someone (Flintoff) figuring out a way to bowl to him and targetting his technical weaknesses, as it was about being tired.

What he has going for him is an aggressive outlook and downright freakish hand eye coordination and timing- I've always seen him as someone whose natural ability to pick the bowler and find the middle of the bat means he has never had to develop an impeccable style.

One thing which a lot of people overlooked about Gilly's innings at the WACA was he started pretty slowly and safely by his standards, before cutting loose- I reckon thats the way for him to go against decent bowlers- bat slowly. take 4 or 5 overs to get his eye in and then pretty much do as he pleases.

Once his eye is in and his timing on, it doesn't matter how safe his technique is or isn't, if you're bowling to a guy who is finding the middle of the bat with every delivery all you can do is pray he'll get unlucky.
