Not only did he get Pick 19. Ggreat get.
Swapping 55 and 51 is a masterstroke.
You guys use 51 on Neagle and free up 39 for a good trade or decent pick.
Old sly bugger. When he retires, i'd love to have him on our trade table.
Well done bombers.

Remains to be seen whether using pick 23 on Cole was a good idea or not.
The Richards deal was very good though. More than happy about it.

I am thrilled with that. As hard as Richards tries, he wasn't part of Essendon's grand plan and to get a first round pick (albeit a late one) is a strong result. If we can get anything more than a half-eaten Chokito for Bolton, we are three from three in mu opinion.

Looks like we can still only use 39 on Neagle. Still a good deal though.

How are you guys for ruckman.
Just thinking of Salmon, Barnes and Allan.
We've got this bloke Bandy. Will do it for a pie and coke. Or pick 51 if you cant use it on Neagle. I can't see why you couldn't though. A 3rd round pick is a third round pick.

Sheedy is the master.
Richard Cole was pick 11 in the strongest draft to date without playing a game that year. His U16 performances were nothing short of brilliant. He was played well out of position at Collingwood and will be a damaging Centreman/Wingman/Half Forward.
Richard Cole - Essendon FOR Pick 23 - Collingwood = Essendon WIN.
Ted Richards was a run of the mill tall player that you wouldn't build your team around and you definetely wouldn't have him as a number 1 or 2 Defender or Forward. A Trier and will be solid for Sydney.
Ted Richards & Pick 55 - Sydney FOR Pick 19 & Pick 51 - Essendon = Essendon WIN.
What Sheedy has done is quite brilliant. Jay Neagle was a stretch as a third rounder, so now you can use pick 51 (The latest third rounder) and have your pick 39 for a better prospect. Quite Brilliant.
Effectively you Gain:
Richard Cole
Pick 19
Pick 51
Effectively you Lose:
Ted Richards
Pick 23
Pick 55
WOW!!!! All thsi with the biggest dud of all Mark Bolton still to be traded. I dread wht you will get.

Can you elaborate on this mate ? Pretty annoying if we can't.
I didn't even realise that 51 was a third round pick - sheeds is a gun!!

With all that talent at the Western Oval are you sure you have room in the salary cap for a Pie and a Coke ? Might have to offload the pie to ease the pressure.....
How about - Bandy for Henneman, Cupido & Bolton and we'll throw the pie & coke in a brown unmarked bag and pass it under the table (SSSSHHHHH..don't tell Andy D.). :D

Can anyone confirm if we can use pick 51 on neagle... I reckon we won't be able to as you have to use your original 3rd round pick but hope I'm wrong..
Is it Sheeds behind all these deals or some other recruiters? Coz whoever does our deals should be looked after financially!!!

essendon cannot use pick 51 on neagle. it must use its original 3rd round pick pick 39 for the father-son rule.

I agree Sheedy is pretty good at this trading caper and admit the Richards deal was a masterstroke but you're getting a little excited about the Cole deal.
Now you obviously watch plenty of Collingwood games given your categorical statement about Cole being played out of position.
So seeing as you've seen enough of Cole in action to form such a strong opinion, then can you tell me exactly what it is that you see in Cole to declare that he'll be a damaging centreman/wingman/half-forward?
The Bomber fans might also like to hear because I don't see too many of them doing cartwheels about the deal.
Just to explode a popular myth, Cole was indeed tried as a wingman and a half-forward but didn't have the speed or skill for the former or the smarts for the latter.
A centreman? I could give you 20 reasons why that's a recipe for disaster but how about stamina and lack of it.
So where else can ya play him? Half-back or the pack pocket.
And even there he was exposed, forever getting run down, dropping marks, taking his eye off the ball and leaking goals aplenty.
If ya can't cut it at hbf or bp, there's nowhere else to go but the VFL.
You can say he didn't want to play for Malthouse and that he'll be revitalised under Sheedy but Mick gave him plenty of chances, picking him week after week until it was no longer tenable.
So what did he do? Fight back like the champions do?
No, he did what losers do, he spat the dummy and started crying for the Bombers like a baby who needs his mother.
Pick 23? You beauty! He's all your Sheeds.
Finally, as a Richmond supporter, surely, surely, surely you'd be smart enough to know that what someone did as a 15-year-old has zero relevance in the AFL.
Hey, I can't blame you for forgetting about Anthony Banik and Richard Lounder. Just like we'll all have soon forgotten about Richard Cole.

[Remains to be seen whether using pick 23 on Cole was a good idea or not.

Sydney too, I'll bet.
Before the draft, Essendon had
7,23,39 and 55.
In acquiring Cole it lost 23, leaving it with
7,39 and 55. With 39 earmarked for Neagle, it had
7 and 55.
Essendon needs to rebuild so early draft picks are important. It had to get back its second pick. It did but at the cost of Richards, a tall defender with 4 - 5 years in the system at Essendon.
Sydney has been in the top 4 for the last 3 years and has just won the flag. Its time is now. Its need is a taller defence and now, not in another 4 years. Richards is arguably the best tall defender available in this draft and may be about to flourish.
Neither of Sheedy nor Roos outpointed the other. Sheedy desperately needed picks closer to 7 than 55, Roos needed to pick up a player ready to go and not too expensive for the salary cap.
I wonder if the choice for Sheedy was Footscray's 28 or Sydney's 19 ?

He's a genius if he can get us anything for Bolton.
