View Full Version : Selwood Deal on Ice!!!
Troy Selwood is unhappy with the offer Adelaide has made to him. Adelaide and Brisbane have agreeded on a trade but unless Adelaide improves its offer he could be on his way back to Victoria.

Rumors r that Collingwood are offering him BIG money, Its no secret Collingwood got alot of room left in there salary cap. That is likely going to be his destination.

I must have missed the part where Adelaide were losing interest.

Why can't Carlton claim him in the PSD as we have first pick?
Collingwood are believed to off tabled a offer of pick 21+23 which is likely to be accepted.

Coz you would know. Seriously, you could add some real substance to the legalisation of euthanasia debate.
i reckon he will accept an offer with carlton as they are likely to get his younger brother joel in next years draft (grapevine says he will be number 1) if carlton win the wooden spoon. - thats right, i have high hopes

Im batting at 100% so far :D, id back that
I bet the terms have something to do with Roo cowardly attacking him from behind so Roo can say he took out both Selwood twins and look like a real champ...

Wow, you are special. The AFL must love people like you sanitising the game, seriously, go follow a non-contact sport, maybe that way you will avoid looking like a whinney little girl.
send him to the tigers, then next year we will get Adam and then if we finish low enough Joel but if not then we can trade for Joel in 2008 and at that time Scott would be ready to be drafted if hes good enough

Adel were rumoured to be throwing $300K at him.... WTF????
Am I missing something here? Selwood hasn't "made it" as a player yet.
Oh, I forgot, Collingwood can't attract anyone, hence the big $$$$.

Rumoured being the operative word. I think you'll find the deal is nothing like that and this was floated by his management to gauge a reaction from the Vic. clubs. If the Crows really want Selwood and the deal doesn't get stupid, they'll get him. Word is that the dollars are not very far apart at all.
You just made that up“Off tabled” or the whole thing?
Either way I agree.

I look forward to hearing SFA about them heading home for the next 1.5 years, as they've, obviously, been signed up again.
Sheesh, the inundation of "What's Watter / Butler worth" were almost becoming as big as the Judd trash we've had to endure.

Pity we just signed them til 08.
You just made that up Welcome to the wonderfol world of F/U who is obsessed with Ricciuto. Apparently Ricciuto planned 9-11, masterminded Bali bombings and was also with Hitler when the Third Reich was at its' most powerful. All this time he was also plotting on disintegrating the fledgling careers of the Selwood brothers to prolong his rule at the top. His evil plans include drugging AA selectors and forcing them at gunpoint to appoint him as AA captain. Also doing the same to all the other AFL team captains (including Cousins) who voted him as the best skipper in the comp. What will the evil mark Ricciuto think of next..... stay tuned for more from the small world and mind of F-U

No for the second time in two days AFC Football operations manager John Reid has stated that Adelaide will not trade pick 17 for Trent Sporn.

Blues should do pick 20 and one of Norman/Sporn/Wiggins for Selwood. I would even do a Pick 20 and McGrath for him which puts the McGrath boys together and stops Ash looking around at the end of each year. Cory has been good value for the Blues this year and would combine well with Ash.
I want Selwood because he is hard at it, almost kamikaze at times and we have been missing that since Hickmott and Hamill before that. Teague is kamikaze in the air but not quick enough to do it on the ground as well.
What do other Blues fans think? Selwood is young enough to not be going away from our youth policy with early picks.

Sporn and Pick 20 for Massie and Pick 17.
We then trade 17 to the Lions for Selwood assuming it is destination he is more concerned about.
Sporn younger than Massie, returns home. May not be around Carlton much longer anyway so we don't lose too much although he has the potential to overcome injury and play a decent role for the Crows.
Massie was good in defence for the Blues before he broke his leg and was traded. Even if he doesn't work out, we have only lost a player who is fast running out of chances anyway.
just maybe
6 Oct 2005, 20:29
I think Massie has proven himself far more than Sporn.
We wouldn't be dropping down the draft ranking for a trade of the two.

We wouldn't be dropping down the draft ranking for a trade of the two.Perhaps but age is on his side. Sporn if not for injury certainly would have got much more game time than Massie even when the Crows finished below us last season. Massie has not really been anything more than a depth player for the Crows and a spare parts bench player when selected. Has done some good stopping jobs however.
At least this trade has some merit even if it needs fine tuning. Some had Sporn going to the Crows for #17 alone. This way he is almost going for Massie which is a long way off #17 or #20. Trying very hard to be objective here which you have to give me a tiny bit of credit for.
The pick 20 and McGrath trade has legs IMO as Cory is not a complete dud, has a great defensive side and has family up here in Brissie.

The fact that they have lost interest indicates that they had interest in the first place. Obviously the asking price was too high. I hardly think that downgrading 17 to 20 and a player outside your best 22 with zero improvement left would add further insult to the situation.
Of course it will not happen but it hardly elicits a response afforded 99% of the far fetched ideas we have around here.
If the Crows had any interest in Sporn originally, they would look at this again if Carlton wanted to offer it. Personally I don't think the Blues want to offload pick 20 so it is an exercise in theory.

No no no. yeah we had interest, but you cannot assert anything about the price we are prepared to pay going for him. If as you say we aren't happy with the price asked, we move on.

nothing more, nothing less.Well if you were offering less than what Massie was worth to the Crows, then you weren't offering anything really.
Are you saying the Crows trading policy is that if you ask about a player and don't get a fair price, you move on. If the other club lowers that price, you don't even look at it saying 'you had your chance'?

I would love to grab Selwood and ideal scenario would be him falling into the PSD.
I don't know if we can afford to give up Pick 20 though. I wonder if the Lions would bite on Pick 36 + McGrath considering they could lose him for nothing if a deal can't be hatched.

Selwood wont go in the PSD.
I would take Pick 20 & Corey McGrath as Old Dark Navy suggested.
what would brisbane want for selwood if they would deal with collingwood?
I'd think something like pick 23 + a player as i don't think the pies would give both 21 and 23.
i'd like woewodin and 23, but i doubt that bris would want woewodin.

I don't see why he wouldn't go into the PSD is as suggested he wants to return to Victoria. With Victorian teams having the first 5 picks, it seems to me al ikely scenario if a deal cannot be hatched.

Its all moot anyway, apparently his manager has confirmed that he is staying in the Maroon, Blue and Gold next year.
Be a stupid move to trade him, he really showed something this year. Cut some other deadwood to give him a reasonable contract.
Sorry can't afford Woewy under the cap.
If he had to be traded We'd want a 15 - 21 plus player. But I have no idea why they're not pulling out all the stops to keep him. He's the next Marcus Ashcroft.
